accidently left off last sentence.2 hours ago, adonski said: Don't think Essendon can risk not taking Sharp if they really rate him
We may well be interested in Sharp especially as our 2 prime inside bulls are now Vines and Steele heading towards the twilight but right now still strong contributors.
Langford will likely be a very strong inside player in a year or 2.
I would not be surprised if we pick up Sharp is available at our picks.
I am hoping for Farrow and Nairn.

Same with farrow, they say his kicking is a weapon yet none of his kicks are with penetration or fast and low. Just long to contests and he missed a few targets when under pressure. ( Yes All from YouTube clips so im an expert )
Also with Nairn , I'm sure the insight from club level is way deeper than anything the media or YouTube nuffys know, I've herd there is interest for him in the early teens so if JT rates him then luckily we have the opportunity to select ahead of them .
If you watch Jeff White's Dees MELBOURNE'S NO.1 focus on his X you can see why we are after Nairn. He coverts goals, marks inside 50, get ball inside 50.

JT hinted we will not be picking a small forward at 7/8 - 11/12 after FS/Academy.
Said a few available in draft so i guess that will be considered with 37 plus we have Prasad next year.
JT said the work has been done and pretty well ready.
So rankings set.
I am thinking Nairn and Farrow if available. Otherwise Nairn and ??

Robey
Sharp
Grlj
Taylor
Cumming
Greeves
Farrow
Lindsay
Dovaston
The AFL have added Nairn to that list of invitees first draft night. So the AFL/recruiters rate him highly.

Rookie me listed strengths and weaknesses for Nairn.
Kicking top of strengths.
" Nairn offers a unique makeup in the medium forward role, capable of playing above his height but also covering serious ground and possessing slick foot skills"
" Most importantly, he impacts the scoreboard"
" Nairn is a precise field kick and can hit targets heading inside 50 on his favoured left side."

Medium forward who may play wing/mid. Strong over head.
With Melks and McAdam maybe in least season for 2026, ANB off a year ago and Fritter? out of contract?
Probably a medium forward with a big tank and marking ability would be preffered if ranked around there.
Only been in the State system one year so plenty of development in him.
Look good. Recruiter and the Phantom pickers do not always agree.

Anyone for Sam Swadling:
Sam Swadling (West Perth)
Fellow Falcon Swadling put his name on the map earlier this season when he amassed 187 disposals in a five-game WAFL Colts stretch heading into the National Championships. The 187cm midfielder spent most of last season playing as a forward in an older West Perth side and he booted 15 goals from 16 games. Upon elevation to a full-time midfield role this season he established himself as the competition’s best ball winner, and he took prolific talent into the State Championships where he, along with teammate Farrow, earned AFL U18 All-Australian honours for his performances across the carnival.
Just like Farrow, he was also awarded a WAFL League debut by West Perth against the Eagles in round 14 and he then won 45 disposals across the next two weeks against East Perth and Subiaco, proving he could find plenty of the ball at all levels. Swaddling and Farrow will return to the Falcons’ Colts side for the last round of the season ahead of an all-important clash with East Fremantle that they likely need to win if they are to feature in finals football.

There's usually the "get to know" draftee videos on the afl website that cover 30 players in a countdown towards the draft. I haven't seen any of shifters "best prospects" broken down by position either.
Additionally, last year there was a dedicated afl.com search engine/function that allowed the average fan to look up player profiles and highlights.
Haven't seen any of that this year unless I'm looking in the wrong spot.
The rumors have usually started by now. Bit late this season and its terribly hard to deal with - withdrawals.
Seriously the AFL should make rumors compulsory.

Our forward line has been our Achilles heel.
Despite premeirship mids delivering we could not get it right.
Missing - One big KFP ala BBB.
Kosi will go into the mid after as 'clean out' so a speedy pressure forward is needed. Could create havoc when Kosi drifts forward.
Where do we get the big BBB type KPF? Do we already have one?
Has the game passed big KFP's by - doubt it.
Depending on how we rate our current young KPFs and Schubert he may well be seriously considered especially if part of the forward revamp includes sending Petty back.
Melks probably last year and Fritter may get some hard to match offers.
-
Not sure on the selection here. Depends how we rate our existing young KPFs and how we rate him. The 5 person interchange gives us an extra forward ruck him and JVR as a 2nd ruck. Now listed as 198cm may grows a tad more.
Depends to some extent whether King wants a fresh forward look. Kosi mainly mid dropping forward, Dovestan to move into a forward role. Petty to go back and maybe Schubert to play that extra tall crash agile KPF/ruck?
Has all the right plusses except rookie me suggest composure needs improvement.
In the end it will probably be where we rate him in the draft and how we rate our up and comer KPF's. We have 2, 1st rounders next year. It also depends to some smaller extent what is available 1st round next year.
With outrageous money being paid to bring a good player in probably best not to pinch a proven KPF/ruck from another club.
No way we could afford to pay a De Koning type salary.
I am not ruling him out.

If the plan is to move Petty into defense down the track play 3 talls forward then if Schubert is regarded as a potential gun then they may select well him.
Odds are against that both Jeffo and Kentfield will both be very good AFL KPF's.
Could be seen as bit of lack of faith in our developing KPF's at Casey but KPF's are so hard to get. Is getting Steele a lack of faith in our Casey mids - probably not entirely.
Medium Marking forwards in Melks may be in his last season and Fritter is a FA at the end of 2026. Mcadam may be let go?

The club recruiters do not always rank players the same as the 'experts'. A month before Windsor's draft he was ranked around 13/14 ish by the experts.
I think Jacob Farrow would be a good pick up. Good size, Got plenty of ball in the WAFL Colts and also got a lot in his senior WAFL games. Rookie me compares him to Young of Freo. Has mid potential later. See rookie me - profile and analysis looks good. Jacob Farrow Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)
If we are worried about Fritter leaving Mitch Marsh as a 3rd tall might be a good pick up if available. Mitchell Marsh Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)
If we want small forward pace, skill and pressure Dovestan might well be considered. Experts suggest it might be a reach but recruiters may not agree. Needs a bit of bulk but has mid potential later. Certainly not a 'bland' or vanilla type of player. Lachy Dovaston Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)
Kingy wants to play fast, high scoring footy so he needs pace and a bit of X factor amongst endurance pressure etc. At our picks we should be looking for players with a point of difference.
I doudt we will look to draft a very tall KPF but the best one could be available at our picks. Aidan Schubert Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)

For some perspective its only been the last few years that we have seen Northern Academy players (not FS) feature in the top 5 or 10 draft picks.
So our picks are the 'old school' draft Southern states and WA players.
There are some pretty good prospects at picks 7 and 8 in the open draft.

Jason Taylor on AFL Gettable (18.11.2025)
in Trade & Draft
2026 1st rounders will be more valuable than the usual draft because clubs pretty well lose the next couple of years with Tassie coming in. So we would want a good deal for our GC F1.
North and WCE are pushing a barrow of the stinky stuff up a steep hill.
