  1. Our elite players have not lost their ability. Hopefully it was just the worst day. It's easy to think we will fall off a cliff but that is unlikely.

The Number of inexperienced players in the team makes us vulnerable to a bad day. We have quietly been refreshing the team.

The loss of Brayshaw and Melksham in career best form has been understated.

We have a young few players at Casey with serious potential. Not sure whether they will become very good or elite. Tholstrup, AMW, Jeffo, Brown,Sestan.

We need to recruit an elite FA.

  2. Those bagging the Luker Kentfield selection just got a big clip across the ears after seeing the gaping hole in the forward line the relatively inexperienced JVR creates when he is out.

Our 'hand to hand' combative style of footy requires AFL big build ultra competitive bigs up forward. Luker fits the category. Skinny kids need not apply.

Luker may or may not make it but Einstien defined insanity as doing the same things over and over expecting a different result. We have problems up forward and going for mids over and over ..... well Einstien nailed it.

You just have to mix it up.

We have recruited well from WA in recent years which indicates we have exceptionally good scouts over there. No doubt they have recommended Luker to JT. Luker potentially fills a hole after BB and Schache finish up season end.

  3.  From Copilot search (from 2023 football):

Luker Kentfield is an exciting young talent in Australian Rules Football (AFL). Let me share some details about him:

    • Height: Luker stands tall at 194 cm.
    • Weight: He weighs 93 kg.
    • Age: At just 19 years old, he’s already making waves.
    • Club: Luker hails from the Carine Junior Football Club.
    • League: He plays in the Northern Conference of the WAFL (West Australian Football League).

Luker’s playing style combines versatility and strength. Here are some key points about him:

    1. Position: He’s a ruck-forward, which means he can dominate both in the air and around the goals.
    2. Experience: Despite flying under the radar, Luker has notable senior experience. He turned out for Subiaco’s League side in 10 games this year. He also earned a call-up to the state Under 18 side for three appearances.
    3. Strengths:
      • Aerial Ability: Luker excels in marking contests.
      • Contested Marking: He’s strong in one-on-one situations.
      • Conversion: When opportunities arise, he’s a reliable goal kicker.
      • Strength: His readymade frame allows him to hold his own against mature bodies.

While Luker has performed well in the WAFL’s top flight, the transition to AFL level will pose new challenges. Taller and more athletic opponents await, but his potential is undeniable.

In terms of stats, Luker averaged just six disposals, three marks, and less than a goal per game. However, his standout senior effort yielded four goals from eight touches and four marks.

Keep an eye on Luker Kentfield – he’s a rising star with plenty of promise! 🌟

  4. AMW has been in sizzling VFL form.

33 disposals against the Zebras, 28 the Lions the weeks before, 19 against the Blues and 30 the week earlier.

A few more of these and he will be seriously  knocking on the door for a go at AFL level - if not already. Although I think the coaches will want to see an extended block of sizzling VFL form.

Have to give AMZ a pat on the back for his application to the task. Keep it up.

  5. We lost Brayshaw who is a gun and Smith who was  handy player.

This game we lost JVR and Langdon. Lever subbed off early.

We have a lot of inexperienced players in the team. The list is being refreshed.

The scene was set early for a WCE win.

We have our core of guns still playing well. We need to lure another gun tall off-season.

  6. Perhaps Fullarton and Tomlinson in. TMc Forward for one week and Tomlinson back.

Or Tomlinson and say Tholstrup in. Tholstrup to get some mid minutes to give more time for Track up forward. TMc forward.

Tomlinson has been in cracking VFL form. BBB's knees might to dodgy to fly to Perth especially at his height but he still is an option.

  7. I thought Sparrow played well and ANB was very good IMO.

They could get more mid minutes allowing Track to play a larger role forward.

Woey played very well in the last q. Hopefully the 'AFL oenny' has dropped for him and he can take the next step.

Not sure how Goody will view Disco's last 2 games? Whether he has played his role to an acceptable level? We do not always see what the coaches see. It's wait and see at selection. I would give him another go against WCE. No one else to bring in either.

  8. I think the issue is the cumulative effect of a number of poor decisions or non decisions that went against us on the night.

The umpires certainly put their whistles away late in the game especially when we were getting inside 50. To scared to make a decision.

As a club a please explain should be sent to the AFL for clarification of a number of decisions and/or non decisions.

As Demonland has many. many passionate Dee posters and readers we should have some influence (won't call it clout) with the club.

  9. 7 hours ago, Demon Dynasty said:

Aside from his tank, maybe the defensive side and learning whatever role he's being asked to play ie; within the team structure ... Roy looks to be a ready made AFL player.

He just needs the finishing touches.

That might require some time spent training with the main group / Casey group during the week for a good block though.  Most likely a pre-season as well to get that all in place and the tank going.  At the very least a structured mini pre after the MSD.

I'd ve very surprised if he isn't flagged on Taylor & Lamb's whiteboard for the MSD already.  If not he should be.

My understanding is Kolt played mostly a HF role during his time at Subiaco & the national carnival, only pinch hitting through the middle.

Now being asked to play a mostly mid role at Casey.  Might take a while Picket, with a few ugly games in between.  That's if he gets that role.  He might be more suited to the former and best left to continue homing in on that?

My gut feel is he is having to play a mostly mid role at the moment as Casey is so low on mid field stocks.  Could be wrong though.

JT in his post draft interview said Kolt would play later as a mid in the AFL. Roy George is worth watching and he may get picked in the mid season.

  10. Not for this draft but evidently (according to BF) Aaron Davey's son is dominating school football in Melbourne.

I think he is around 14 years old. No doubt the club is monitoring and supporting. I think that is why the AFL is seeing more FS's. Clubs are identifying early and putting more time and resources in.

Attention Administrators : next interview with Jason Taylor can we please get an update on FS's.

  11. Goody said Daniel knows he has a lot to learn about forward craft (words to that effect) so Goody was happy but restrained. He did say they were hoping that they had found another forward.

Key word is hoping. Only Danliel Turner can control how his story turns out. The coaches and mentors have influence but no control.

If the coaches had total control their job be easy. Lets hope Daniel makes the most of his career.

    Good game Disco, well done.

  12. It took Gawn 4 or 5 years make it consistently at AFL level. Tom Hawkins similar.

Point is with younger players its more about the future than now or last year. A few thought Gawn was mediocre at best. You just have to trust the club and its processes. The players will get all they need from the club to eventually make the grade . If they don't the club will let them go.

  13. Just goes to show how important the gun playmakers are. Drop off and it makes it very tough.

Bowey and Salem will make a difference to the defence. Rivers may then be able to play a bit more mid.

I think we can regroup ok for round VS tigers.
