my point of view.... Grimes, sylvia and howe are very intresting talents as the posses the ability to go mid or eith fwd\bck. These players are highly important regarding rotations and opening up alot more options (obviously) in saying this, i beleive howe should play mostly up foward, and have goes on the wing. Grimes as mostly a running halfback defender, similar to what i hope watts does and what luke hodge did for the hawkers. and sylvia to rotating through the foward line, playing most of the game in the mid as i beleive his has the "x factor" and class we need in the guts. saying that my team round one suggesting all are fit would be: FB: backpocket fullback backpocket colin garland frawley bartram HB: halfbackflank halfback halfbackflank watts tom Macdonald grimes c: wing centre wing bail tengrove gysberts HF: half fowardflank halffoward halffowardflank tapscott mitch clark howe FF:fowardpocket fullfoward fowardpocket bynes dawes blease Rov: Ruck ruck rover rover jamar Jones sylvia Int:viney, mckenzie, struass :davey hahahah help me out people

Wellingham/Dawes super trade (scuppered)
deelicious_9 replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Geelong got their flags on the back of stars and those stars have kept them at the pointy end ever since. And those stars have included F/S picks such as Ablett and Scarlett, plus Hawkins. They've also got stars who were top 10 draft picks in Bartel and Selwood. Another of their guns was a former pick 2 in Ottens, who they acquired with two first round draft picks. And yes, they've also drafted well. Where do you think our "stars" are most likely to come from ? I'll give you a tip. One is also a F/S and the others are likely to be sharp end draft picks. Once you get a few stars on your list it's far easier to regenerate and stay in the game. Adelaide stayed in the game for a decade on the back of their stars in Riccuito, McLeod, Goodwin, Hart ... +1 sugesting tompous goes pick 2, viney goes second round, i would like: pick 3 and 4, two of-wines,grundy,hogan(minidraft), o rouke pick 13-kennedy,stringer pick 26-viney third round pick + martin for dawes + maybe 4th round???? to be honest as much as a rate wellingham, i dont think he is worth what they are asking + mcuh rather pic kup a jet kid with a higher pick. dawes i think maybe handy but defs not worth pick 13!!!! i can't beleive people think thats a fair trade!! -
rjay- being good at both is what seperates the bests of the greats. only player that are destictivly both off the top of my head are ablett, judd. without a doubt outside mids have to dive on the ball if it is in dispute and inside mids must be able to hit a target. but for a player to be a star in both, gee. it also comes down to their body shape. trengrove is never going to have the sspeed of jetta and blease will never attack the ball like james magner. you are right that player must be able to do both
-
fair call. but why not play howe as a third foward, grimes the running back and pick up more class? you have changed my view on wines though
-
we need another foward, thats why the club is looking at dawes im a fan of getting wellingham as he too is a classy outside mid byrnes was recruited for the same reason and this is why i beleive melbourne are not showing as much intrest in caddy as other clubs( big bodied).
-
dont get me wrong, i think wines is a superstar. but if you loo kat i mids, we lack outside spread and run. Our mids mainly consist of trengrove, magner, couch, viney(hopefully), jones. All who have reletivly big builds . we have been labeled slow, but a player like tompous (olisik is probably right and he will go pick two, fingures crossed he doesn't) breaks the lines and has nice polish on his execution. this is why a guy like blease has blossomed this year becuase he is able to do that. when player can spread well it creates space therefore allowing bigger bodies to show there skills as they are allowed more time. A perfect example is hawthorn, who have a perfect mix if inside mids such as mitchell, sewell, hodge and great outsides like bruest and isaac smith. my opinion is that wines is another inside mid, which we have plenty of
-
im not the biggest fan of wines. i know he is mates with viney and has amazing ability and sure woud succeed at any club. but he is just not what the club is looking for. another big bodied mid, hard nut with relentless pressure. will be gun though
-
Just another talking point. Who would you pick up if you were in the recruiters position? Assuming Jack Viney slides through, I think Jimmy Toumpas would be an awesome fit to slot in number 3. I know Gold Coast looks like his destination but they have expressed interest in a big bodied mid. (Oliver Wines type.) An interesting one then is pick 4. Saying we got Toumpas with pick 3, would you go a big man in someone like a Grundy or maybe someone like O'Rourke who has been highly talked about - even Sam Mayes? Thoughts?

wants heard a great quote on 3AW radio . " if i hade the oppurtunity, every time i put on a melbourne jumper i would put my heart and soul in trying to win the ball. I Just don't beleive players such as cale morton are doing that." It's not only Morton, plenty more.

the thing i like most about kennedy is that he was highly successful at the national champions as an under-ager and then got all-austrlian honours a year later.averaging 26 disposal a gmae if you dont mind. this show true consistancy that he can back it up and average high numbers. you know what your getting, consistancy. you know you're not going to get another cale morton who has a great year and struggles at the top level. i agree with you that the chances of him falling through to 13 maybe alittle slim however pick 4 may be abit risky. he will probably go pick 7-13

this will never happen

sorry hadn't heard about this. If so, its fairly obvious we pick him up.........

i rate martin. Martin > dawes pick 13 >rounds (pick 30 odd, played minimal games over a couple of years.......)

hahahaaha yes!!
