I'm so pumped watching this game right now. I love this team.

I'm kind of torn on the topic. I've heard a lot of people say it'd be "Americanizing" it. But I don't agree with that. Soccer jerseys have names on the back, Non-test cricket jerseys do as well. I don't think it'd look tacky. But I am an American so i'm used to it in most of our sports. I mainly just don't know what the point would really be, I mean it's not like it'd be easy to see the name, while watching games. Seems a bit silly to me. But then again, in American Football it's not like you're close enough to see the name on the back of the jersey either. My biggets problem with it is just because there's such a great tradition of players and certain numbers and I think this might diminish that a little.

Preseason has begun - some pics on MFC site
AmericanDemon replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember one game this year, Pederson missed a goal from like 10 meters out. I think it was even a set shot. I tweeted "I'm pretty sure I could have kicked that one, and i'm a Yank." Someone told me to test it out. So the next morning I went out to a park, got a football, set markers apart, the width of the goal, counted off 10 meters and had a crack. I'm proud to report I would have kicked a goal on my first attempt. My second attempt looked like something from a footy horror show. Came squarely off the side of my foot and nearly took out a squirrel who was camped out under a tree to the right of me. -

Haha I like to think it's the Boot-studder who just snuck his way in there. -
Two months ago, I emailed the Melbourne Demon's membership office, and told them my last membership payment wouldn't be on time. I had just moved back in with my parents after finishing college, and haven't found work yet, then my dad was in a work accident that resulted in him being in the hospital for nearly three weeks. Around that same time, I wrote a blog post for a friend about what it's like being an AFL fan in the states. I wrote about how I came to love the Demons, and how great the club has been to me. The post got circulated around the internet and eventually found its way to the Demons media team. I'd had interactions with the club on a few other times and have always been amazed at how much they care about their members and how they go the extra mile to help their members. Today, I received this package in the mail. It has a hat, a letter from one of the staff and an autographed card. As far as I can tell it's signed by Nathan Jones, Chris Dawes, Jack Trengove, Shannon Byrnes, Mitch Clark, Jordie McKenzie, Colin Garland, Jack Grimes. There's a signature in the bottom left corner that i'm not sure whose signature that is. I'm completely blown away by how much the Demons care about their members. I just had to share with you guys since I don't know many AFL fans over here. I was trying to attach photos in the post. But it didn't want to work. So here's a link. http://imgur.com/uAxUUdw,0wUxra6,rLXJqcE#0

My Heart Beats True - 2014 Membership Campaign Launched
AmericanDemon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'll be buying my membership for the second year in a row as soon as I find a job. I've got $25 to my name right now. That's the price of the first payment for the armchair membership. Not going to lie, I seriously considered just buying it now. But then, I thought there might be a few things more important than getting my Dees membership early. Like food. And beer. -
Thats amazing. I was blown away when I made my first post on here last summer about how they sent me an autographed team photo. There were a handful of stories about how great the club is to members .My favorite might have been on another website but it sent chills down my spine. This woman was visiting her sister in Australia. She was from Switzerland. She wanted to go to an AFL game, just to see the spectacle but knew nothing about the game. Her sister couldn't go with her so she ended up just going to the G alone. In between quarters she had gone to get a drink or something and got lost. A tall man in a suit walked up and asked if she needed help. She explained that she needed help finding her seat, and then said how she didn't understand the game or what was going on. The tall man in a suit was Jim Stynes. He invited her to sit with him in his box. Explained the game to her. And then after the game ended he took her down to the club store and bought her some merchandise.

Thanks. i'm pretty excited to get whatever it is. Damn stupid university sending it back to Australia. Guess that's what I get for going to a cheaper school. Now i'll probably have to wait a month before it finally gets to me! I don't even know what it is, i'm hoping for a scarf or something like that though. I'll be sure to let you all know what it is when it gets here.

So, I finished University last spring and moved to a different state. The address from my 2013 club membership was for my university dormitory. I haven't ordered anything and haven't renewed my membership yet so I hadn't got around to updating it yet. Well last week, I got a call from the dormitory I lived in saying i'd received a package from Australia. I argued with them for 10 minutes trying to get them to forward it to me. But apparently the school is run by idiots and they wanted me to come in person and show ID to get it. So I said i'd try and work out coming down over the weekend to get it. But plans fell through. I called my old school to try and work something out. Turns out they'd all ready returned it to sender, last week. So I emailed the club and told them the situation, and asked if they could forward it to me and that I would be more than willing to pay the shipping costs. I got a reply today. They said that they wanted to send me a little something for my continued support from the states. (I'm assuming it's stemming from a blog post I wrote a few months ago that eventually got retweeted by the Demons.) Then she said they club will pay the additional shipping costs and will notify me when it ships out after they get it. This is about the third amazing experience i've had with the staff of the club. I've heard about five stories from other people who have all had great experiences with the Demons front office. I know we've been [censored] on the field for the past few years, but the way they have treated me, has earned them a life long member.

An idea so crazy it might work - Tebow time
AmericanDemon replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure about his endurance, that may be the only problem. He is 6'4 so that shouldn't be an issue. Is it sad that there's part of me seriously considering bringing this up to him the next time i run into him? -

Okay, here's what i'm thinking now. So, i'm a journalist and cover a university football team here in the states. There's a kid on the team who played as punter/strong safety on defense. He led the nation in punt distance, with an average of nearly 60 yards per punt. He kicked multiple punts over 70 yards last year. Also since he's a strong safety on defense he's got great tackling skills. So, the plan is, i'll either convince him this is what he needs to do or if worse comes to worse i'll kidnap him. Its for the good of the team. Desperate times call for desperate measures. -

Yeah, I was just thinking with as bad as his throws are, could his kicks really be that much worse? Even if his kicks are half as bad as his throws he might still be a better kick than some people who have played this year. -

As an American and an NFL fan, I can attest he can't throw for [censored]. So, maybe he has hidden talent kicking the ball! -

My first thought was "No! No! No! No!" Then I thought about how damn hard he works. And how even though he sucked for the better part of the game, dammit he came alive in the fourth quarter. Plus the guy's just got an uncanny knack for winning. And he just rode the bench for the Jets last year, so maybe they're looking unload him! -
Most important thing to do is turn up tomorrow
AmericanDemon replied to Rambo64's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wish I could go to the game. Even with the way they're playing right now i'd love to be able to go to the G. Take in the atmosphere, and watch the club. Someday i'll make it down to Australia to watch a game. -
http://beingademonsfan.tumblr.com/ I laughed, then I felt sad at how much I could relate to a lot of these.
-
I'm pretty happy with that showing for the first game of the year. Just a few mistakes held us back. Loved the new recruits especially Hogan.
-
They actually replied all ready! Can't watch them outside of Australia, then they directed me to the AFL TV site.
-
Yeah, the past three seasons i've mostly just streamed games. Last year I did the AFL TV option which was pretty nice but i'm a little low on cash this year so i'm hoping i'd be able to watch the free replays in case I can't stay up for all the Demons games. I just tweeted at the AFL and asked them, but i don't know if they'll reply.

This is honestly why I bought my membership. Living in the states I wanted to do something to support the club. So, I purchased an armchair membership, made me feel good and like I was doing something to help the club out.
