Plus you would think Prestia knows that his future isn't guaranteed, so he's looking for a big pay day in case it doesn't work out.

I'm sure we've got our eye on other players out there.

I'm sure we do have our eyes on may players atm however when trading begins you never know what is thrown around between clubs. It's early days yet. As far as Prestia goes I read somewhere that his knee is in great shape it was a clean up of scar tissue which is not uncommon after an operation.

I wonder if we have gone cold on him Frank?

Maybe, we're not in the same trading position as last year, having traded away our first round pick. We were "white-hot" after him but it wasn't the right time for him. Now, who knows? I know one thing, who ever gets him will get a class act both on field and off!

  3. Eade  is [censored] off that he won't sign on. Thus giving him less time on the ball, less time on the ground, playing him in differ any positions. He is the best midfielder they have behind only Ablett. He was very close to coming last year, only his loyalty  to his teammates stopped him, now it's loyalty to family which is kicking in. He is very close to his immediate and extended family. We can never have too many good midfielders. Richmond, the team I hate passionately is very hot for him, I would die if he went there! This is extremely reliable 100% true.

  4. When Melbourne played Hawthorn earlier this season, we were never in it.

I didn't get a chance to let out a yelp about our performance it was so bad.

One thing I did say was... "I'm glad someone else is over paying you now Frawley" All the Hawk fans laughed.

I wonder if they are still laughing now??

  5. Lou, seriously what has a loss to Geelong in 2011 got to do with players we keep next year. It is as ludicrous as Geelong saying they will hang onto every player that played in that same game.

Judge players on what they have done and can do. Not in whether they played in a game 5 years ago.

It just so happens that these players (marked with an asterix) are the ones that continuously play and let us down when the chips are down.

Coincidently they are from that era, Is there a connection? Maybe ,maybe not!

  6. Well they can't move the whole team on...

Jones, Watts, Grimes, Garland, Dunn should all be put up for trade. It should be a KPI for Roos and the list management team to trade all of them. Their ineffectiveness during a match drives the rest of the team.

I seriously think a team led by Vince, Brayshaw, Hogan, VB, Petracca, McDonald, Salem is infinitely more attractive than the current boys club from the Bailey and Daniher years. Look at the Bulldogs.

Seriously, if there aren't major changes and legitimate talent brought in, then you have to question the viability of the club has a whole if it can't attract players.

The players that are still with us that were at the club in 2011, the year of the 186 loss to Geelong, should be considered for trade.

    Here are the 14:

    N. Jones

    *Watts

    Trengrove

    Dunne

    *Grimes

    *Garland

    Gawn

    *Howe

    Jetta

    **Jarmar

    *Spencer

    *Bail

    Fitzpatrick

    T. McDonald

    * may have trade value

** may not have much if any

All others in bold print should be persevered with IMHO

  7. Bailey?

I think he had his good points and bad. Defensive game needed a lot of work, Offensively he was ahead of his time.

I remember watching "On the Couch", Roos was scathing with his criticism of Bailey claiming he was not keeping up with the then current trend which was very defensive. Bailey created a game plan which suited the list at his disposal which happened to be similar to the one Clarkson adopted.

They were both colleagues at Port Adelaide at some stage I believe.

  8. Its not the fitness people, it's not the doctors, it's not the coaches, it's not the boot studder, its not the physios, its not the property steward, its not the president, its not the CEO,

Its the SENIOR players, all of them. They all need to go at the end of this year if we want this club to start gaining some competitiveness and respect.

  9. 1. How did you start following the Demons?

    2. Who was your very first favourite player and why?

    3. Best moment as a fan?

    4. Worst moment as a fan?

    5. Anything else you would like to share?

Okay lets see what you got.

    1. 1957 at five I started school at St. Margaret Mary's in Brunswick and started passively following the Demons (most kids followed them in those days)

    2. First favorite player was Hassa Mann (my all-time favorite though was Allen Jakovich the best kick on both sides of his body I've ever witnessed).

    3. Best moment was the 1987 the night grand-final win against Essendon.

    4. Worst moment was 2011 loss to Geelong by 186 points closely followed by the Fitzroy loss by 190 at Waverly in 1979.

    5. I first began seriously following them and became member in 1965, I'm 63 and I fear that I will never witness a Premiership!

  10. The players that are still with us that were at the club in 2011, the year of the 186 loss to Geelong, may be scarred beyond repair.

    Here are the 14:

    N. Jones

    Watts

    Trengrove

    Dunne

    Grimes

    Garland

    Gawn

    Howe

    Jetta

    Jarmar

    Spencer

    Bail

    Fitzpatrick

    T. McDonald

Many of these were in their first year and not part of the 186 team.

IMHO only 5 or 6 of this list deserve to still be with us.

How many of these are scarred beyond repair, to the point that they repeatedly go into "self-preservation-mode" when we need them most?

  11. The articles talks of his re-signing in 2013 as a big win for GCS and that it runs deeper than merely his signature. A number of others signed on afterwards. Yeah, okay, but it doesn't mean he'll stay past this contract. The article reads like he'd be open to offers if the club offering was challenging or finals bound.

The MFC was a train wreck last season and he re-signed before Roos was announced as the new coach. If he was coming out of contract this year, we'd be in with a great shot. He's not out of reach, IMO. I thought he was, but having read that article, his attitude comes across as almost 'I may as well stay here', rather than 'I love playing with this group' or what have you. I'd get in his ear at the end of this year and aim to try and lure him at the end of 2015. We can dream. ;)

Melbourne's move was far too late, Tim Harrington was largely responsible for the fcuk up and that contributed to his sacking!

Dion's family wants him home, but Victorian clubs are lining up already even though his contract includes 2016, lets hope he comes to us if he comes home to at all.

  12. I have received my 50th year recognition a certificate and a pin. I really appreciate the acknowledgement.

I'm a believer in the famous words of JFK ... "ask not what my country do for me but what I can do for my country"

We're all different and that's fair enough.

I would have loved to have seen a premiership by now though.

  13. This is by far the best Clash jumper I've ever seen!!

    Absolutely love it!!

Forgive my quick editing in photoshop, but just wanted to highlight my point of just reversing all teams colours. There'd be no issue with the clash of any strips then. Throw an MFC monogram on this or make the shorts white etc, just think it's pretty simple and keeps our traditional design.

  14. The problem with this is that we can't really play hardball in these circumstances because if a player is not contracted after 31 October, he has to be delisted and then becomes a delisted free agent. The AFL might have a say because Clark's retirement was accompanied by the cancellation of his contract.

Hasn't the AFLPA already stated that this is NOT the case?

  15. This is all starting to make sense now.

At the time of MC's retirement it was inter-mated to me that he was forced to retire by higher powers for other problems.

If in fact he is being given the wrong advice, as insinuated below, then maybe there was some truth in what I heard.

I treat people with depression every day and have done so for a while now. I have heard in the media this idea that the only way to recover from depression is to leave the context in which it has arisen - to completely change one's environment. Let me guarantee everyone that this is obnoxiously stupid. If Mitch has been advised to do that - and his agent confirmed that he had - then he is being poorly treated to say the least.

IF the advice is more nuanced, then I can understand it, to a point. What I would like to say is that much of the issue with depression is the internalised stuff - and changing environments may well do little to alter that. Depression is episodic. Most people recover. A significant proportion are vulnerable to relapse, but that can be managed too in many cases. Especially if you have the financial resources and supports that Mitch has. I've been curious from day one about this and nothing is reassuring me about this situation atm.

as a person who has his own issues, I questioned at the time whether the decision run away and retire (instead of facing his problems head-on) was at all wise or at all brave, for which of course I was howled at by 90% of this forum. I'm still wondering what type of advice he has been getting, or to what extent what we have been fed about said advice is pure fabrication. All very very fishy for mine.

  16. This is the problem with Melbourne - when we try to get ruthless we do it with the wrong blokes like Jnr and then hold on to players like Sylvia and Johnstone for far too long (dare I say it a few now) and players on past glories.

Frawley has been ordinary for two seasons for mine and any other club would have traded him already when he had currency.

I would love to hang on to Frawley, the big question is does he want to stay?

All indications are that his management has already got an agreement in place.

An agreement that was similar in a time scence to Scully's, that is, negotiations were started last season.

I hope I'm wrong because he is a book end in the team and they don't grow on trees.

That's why all the top teams are showing a strong interest.

  17. The President although "invisible" is new and is not part of those dark days. Its better that he is silent, Peter Jackson should be the one to express the committees views. Paul Roos is the front man at the moment and so he should be, can you imagine what the media would do if someone other than Paul Roos was fronting the media?

I do agree that any members of the old committee that still occupy a position should vacate asap.

Players that are still playing include Frawley, Watts, Jones, Garland, Dunne, Trengrove, Grimes, Blease, Jarma, Bail, Fitzspatrick, Gawn, Tom McDonald, Stuass, Spencer,Tapscott and Jetta. Of these players who will be part of the problem not all played much in 2011 and some were in their rookie year.

Bare in mind that Bailey said after the 186 game "My responsibility is going to be getting these players back together again, gelling them again and getting them united again to confront an opposition next week" was he saying that there was disunity in that list?
