AFL House Announcement coming up @ 10 am
autocol replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Correct. AD will be be on $3M a year from an international tennis, golf, Olympic, or similar organisation by 2015. All the muppets on here (and bigfooty) having a sook about him are utterly clueless. He's been an absolute boon for this football code. -
Hey admin, I support Melbourne (obviously), and I'm sitting in Melbourne, and the times on this forum are two hours advanced of what time it actually is here. Any particular reason for that? Any chance you could amend it? Ta.

NAB Challenge 2 - Melbourne v Geelong
autocol replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dunny was fantastic all of last year, in the worst team in the league with one of the worst coaches of all time. Give the man himself some credit. -
I haven't seen the Saints-GWS game, but I think the GWS squad is a year too old to be consistent easy-beats this year. I reckon they'll pinch a number of stirring, unexpected victories (like us against Essendon in 2012) and will start to command some genuine respect. Sounds like we really need to beat the Saints round one, though.

NAB Challenge 2 - Melbourne v Geelong

I know you're all sick of me pointing it out, but Lynden Dunn is a walk-up start in any back six in the comp I reckon. Set up play beautifully, ran hard, and (as per usual) never once got beaten one on one. Clisby should also play every game this year. His delivery of the ball - low and fast - is an asset we've been sorely lacking. I expect we'll get used to hearing "Clisby, to Watts, to Hogan" this year... -
Intraclub Practice Match - Thursday 20th February, 2014
autocol replied to furious d's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not a word of a lie, this is the most awesome comment in this thread. What a statement it would make to the league at large if we took the next mega-hyped-saviour-superstar, the guy everyone has been asking "is this the next Wayne Carey?", and said "he's not quite ready for senior footy yet, but if he continues to work hard he will debut when he is ready". How different an introduction that would be for him compared to what Watts, Trenners, Toumpas, et al, have had to endure. -
I've accused you of making plenty of stupid comments in the last few weeks, but to follow this one with that one just takes the cake. You are an idiot, and the worst poster on this site.
-
Oh look, Moonshadow and Stuie being needlessly aggressive... I AM shocked. What are you guys, twelve?
-
How did you find the value of the product, guys? I too have an iPad and an AppleTV, so I'm considering exactly the same thing. Worth it, in your opinion?

My brother spoke with Barassi at length not so long ago. Unfortunately he had to report that it appears dementia is well and truly setting in. The unspoken price of ever-increasing life expectancy is the pain and suffering (both physical and emotional) that come with growing old.

Add me to the list of people that think your attitude totally sucks. I've never met a policeman who treated me with anything but total respect. Isn't it strange how all the people who whinge about the behaviour of our police force all seem to exhibit similar traits to each other? Those who treat police with respect get treated with respect in return. Those who think "cops should be belittled, abused, pushed and punched" clearly don't understand the law or their place in a civilised society, and frankly I don't blame our police for treating people like you however they deem it necessary in order to maintain their authority and safety.

Incidentally, I think Jordie is a great tagger too, and not a bad contested ball-winner either. I certainly prefer to see him dishing handballs than disposing by foot, however.
-
I'd like to see Dunn as our tagger. Best negative player on the team, gets in peoples faces, and has other attributes that make him useful as well (can take a contested mark, kick goals, and launch long bombs). He performed an excellent job on Judd last year. The only question mark on him is endurance. He's a big body to be running all over the park.
-
No doubt you'd have said the same about a certain other Jones on our list a couple of years ago.
-
Most Kicks: Mitch Clisby Most Handballs: Daniel Cross Most Disposals: Nathan Jones Most Tackles: Jack Viney Most Marks: James Frawley Most Goals: Jesse Hogan Bluey winner: Colin Garland I'm unfortunately of the opinion that Mitch Clark has five games of footy left in his career. Fortunately, I think Hogan will be a beast from pretty much day one. I'm tipping big Spence to become our number one ruck, and Viv Michie to become one of our best two or three mids (better than everyone bar Jones, basically). I want to see Fitzy on the park regularly, possibly as a ludicrously tall winger at times, and I'd like to see Pedersen teach Dawes how to take a contested mark... otherwise, honestly, perhaps Pedersen would be a better role-playing CHF than Dawes (he is a fantastic pack mark... not sure on his goalkicking... anyone?). I'm also tipping Roos to turn one of our much maligned fit-but-talentless midfielders (Jordie, Nicho, Bail) into a consistently solid performer who hits targets and shuts down a player (hoping for Nicho). I think Roos will LOVE Lynden Dunn and turn him into Ryan Crowley Mk II.

I bumped into him in Fitzroy late one night and found him to be a polite, genuine bloke. I find many on this board to be disrespectful jerks.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MAX KING
autocol replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Clearly Damien Barrett just parrots whatever he heard in the hallways. The guy has no critical thinking or analysis skills at all. I couldn't give a toss what he or Denham think, frankly. They're simply not experts in player development (and if they were, they'd be employed at clubs, not media organisations). Further to that, until about 6 weeks out from the draft, Aish was the consensus number two pick, all over the industry. Had you listened to Barrett then, he'd have told you Aish is a guaranteed future brownlow medallist and Melbourne were crazy to give him up. As someone with a fair degree of education in the field of statistics and future-intelligence decision making, let me make an assessment as to the likelihood that Damien Barrett is any better than a groundhog at identifying future football talent... ZERO. Like, actually zero. If you were to keep a record of his statements for the next five years, and compare the results with that of a totally random selection of draftees, his predictions will prove to be of ZERO additional value over outright guessing. I guarantee it. Daniel Kahneman (the father of cognitive bias research and nobel prize winner in economics for his work in business psychology) would laugh in his face. With regards to Max King, he sounds good, and he's exactly where a 200cm, 89kg 18 year old should be... on the rookie list. -
He said, before commenting.

Dean Terlich - Good player or defensive liability?
autocol replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think it's a bit unfair to directly compare his stats with guys playing in teams with a percentage not in the low 50's. Of course he'll have conceded more goals than most... SOMEONE has to get a bag kicked on them when we're losing by ten goals. I reckon his disposal efficiency would improve if the team was more cohesive. I don't think our defence had much to kick to this year. All that said, defenders need to defend, first and foremost! -
Dean Bailey Diagnosed With Cancer

Citation needed. -
Wowed. Just one double-u too many mate. But it's definitely a word The phrases "I have a dream" and "we will fight them on the beaches" are meaningless? If you truly think words are meaningless, then posting on a forum seems a pretty pointless exercise. You think a mute captain would be a good thing?

Who would you like to see "Rip it up" in 2014
autocol replied to GrandOld's topic in Melbourne Demons
Put Jack Viney's head on Jack Watts' body and you'd have a brownlow medal. -
I loved him already due to his efforts on the ground. Having seen that interview now, it's blown out to a full-on man crush. What a legend. Also - nowhere near as ugly as I expected. Once the mouthguard is out his face returns to a vaguely normal shape.

People are putting Strauss on the half back flank, a guy who has played 24 games total, 6 this year at an average of less than ten touches a game... Dunn (117 games, 18 this year, 16 avg disposals, 7th in the BnF) is not gone. Yes, Strauss may have potential, and yes, he's had bad luck with injury. But if you're picking the best side rather than gifting games to the kids Bailey-style, then Dunn is streets ahead of him.
