I remember Dean Polo had around a 30+ possession debut and was touted as a future star. Everyone that's drafted has talent and potential but no one gets anywhere without being elite in everything else - case in point, Gys.

The whole compo scenario for free agency is flawed anyway - in a perfect world we shouldnt be getting anything for either.

Could not be happier with landing a player like Dawes. Neeld is tempering youth with experience, which in recent years where we have relied primarily on the ND to rebuild, is a breath of fresh air. Slightly off topic but my old man works in the same industry as a close family member to Dawes. A few years ago he asked how much it would cost the dees to get him to Melbourne and he got laughed at. They bumped into eachother yesterday and he reminded this family member of the conversation. One of the things said was how genuinely happy Chris was to be coming to the Dees and how much he was looking forward to proving himself after a year down on form. Another year into our existing group of mids + two ready to go talents in Viney and (hopefully) Wines, could be all the difference to provide some decent delivery to our forwards. I'm definitely biased but I can't wait to see Melbourne rd 1 next year!

I would say its more like. Gumbletons potential > Dawes > Martin. Dawes is a premiership player and fills a gaping hole in our team. Gumbleton hasn't proven he's out of the woods injury wise and has only really had a handful of good games. No way you can compare the two!

Only a blindside will result in us not getting Hogan. If both Sos & Harrington are positive, it looks like they might just be waiting for a few deals e.g. Dawes/Ray etc to fall into place before committing. Great day for the MFC though - probably the best I've felt since we belted Sydney a few season ago!

Been following him for a while. He is exactly the type of player we need & I don't think he will be available at 14. Would love this bloke at P4!

Haha where did I suggest our past recruiting has been ok? I'm saying the situation that we have found in this draft isn't as bad as people like you keep saying! If GC bid on Viney it is because they want him, which means another club, another full recruiting department, rates him at pick 2, in which case we get him at 3. They will not bid on him based on chance or spite, that's just bad management.

I don't see what the issue is. Tom Scully is not worth pick 4 or 13, so we got overs. Now we probably have to pay overs for Viney. Let me put it this way, what would you rather: Scenario A: Pick 3, Tom Scully & Pick 24 (P24 because our compo picks wouldn't exist) OR. Scenario B: Viney, Pick 4, Pick 13 & pick 26 Don't get me wrong would love for GWS & GC to pass, but in the grand scheme of things I think we are doing ok.

If we don't draft Viney I will microwave my membership card. The jury is still out on the MFC's new look, but one thing is certain, if we allow Viney to run around in a GC jumper, we not only loose out on potentially one of the hardest players to ever play the game, but we will also go a very long way to loosing the faith of every MFC supporter who has been waiting for the day that Viney Jnr plays for the MFC like his old man. Can you imagine MFC playing a strong GC in years to come and JV ploughing our blokes into the turf and us lamenting what could have been? We talk about club culture, this is a perfect example how to set it, and get a gun son of a club champion in the process. In case the arm chair experts are wondering to be top 10 in even a weak draft means you have enormous talent. Mix that with innate skills like hardness and commitment - thats when you get the good AFL players. From what I've seen Viney ticks all the boxes.

All didn't no the best place to post this so I'll throw it here. Had a great chat with Chris scott earlier tonight at a bday I was at (brad was there too but didn't get the time to chat to him). First of all, top bloke and very down to earth. Among other things I quizzed him about gys, riv, caddy, his thoughts on melb etc thought a few would be interested to no! On riv: not keen unless all else fails (didn't go into details). On gys: laughed at me when I asked. Played dumb and said he's small, but then asked how I rated him - tbh seemed keen. On caddy: no news here but every Melbourne club is going for him, including melb On neeld and fd: rates neeld big time but doesn't really give much time/thought to the dees as they have been non competitive. Anyway have a good weekend all!

Yep. In all honestly I really don't care if GC bid and we get him at 3. The kid is ridiculously tough, ready to go & skillfull. For mine the FD under Neeld hasn't really put a foot wrong, but they will if they pass.

Couldn't be more spot on. If we are forced to take Viney at 3 so be it, this is the type of heart that the team needs & more importantly us supporters need. I can't imagine what would hurt more than seeing Viney in a Suns jumper driving a Melbourne player into the turf. I know its draft tampering but if we really wanted to see Viney slip to 2nd round we should tell GC we will trade P3 or P4 for Caddy if they don't bid on Viney in the F/S noms. We then have P3 or P4 to on trade for a mini draft pick or just use in the ND.

This. I work in banking and I certainly didn't start with the expectation that my CFO should respect me. That only comes after hard work. The same applies in footy. Who knows whether MN will be a good coach but at least it won't be through lack of conviction.

Mate I could not agree more. The talk on here of some 'supporters' turning their back on the players at this weekends game is disgusting and will damage the spirits of the few that actually try. Stick by our club, stop sooking and have faith that all the hacks will be ousted at year end.

+1. I think it would be remiss of us to think the coaching staff haven’t recognised this though. They probably knew it could potentially get this ugly before it got better, I just hope they've factored in the affect loosing has on morale!

No I think watts will be fine only if he can find some hardness - whether this can be taught remains to be seen. Morton is another story the kid cannot kick at speed. We recruited for a different game plan and recruited badly. Has been a terrible football club for development but what I'm saying is that we are where we are for a number of reasons, so either stop supporting the club or realise that this new regime will take time.

How about this for something next: stop tipping on the football department, we have some of the most respected and experienced blokes around. Next steps is to recruit some hard skilled footballers. Our cattle is the problem, some guys will make it, but a lot will get the boot when their contracts expire. We were terrible last night and I was embarrassed but I wouldn't be blaming the coaching staff - thats for the media. Just acknowledge that we're a bad team full of very bad draft choices. Case in point: Cyril or Cale?
