  1. This is the most interesting, and unknown, change to the game in ages. How will teams play the 21+1? I could imagine a substitute needing a session to keep in shape, so it is a fair point. How do we play the roles? A runner for later legspeed? A runner in case a runner gets injured? A versatile swing player that can do more than one role? A 'tall' that comes in at a designated time (Rolling the Brendan Favola memorial dice, hoping for no injuries?)...I will really be interested to see how each team tries to make the most of what I think is a crappy rule (I would have preferred 22 + 1 medico certified injury replacement). Bring it on...and by round 6 we will have seen how the coaches and clubs have thought about the variations of this.
  2. Interesting thoughts, DemonOx. I would prefer Rivers to get a run-with role if Goodes plays forward. Watts to play a linking role, like a fat side quarterback - playing forward of centre. It may be a good 'learning experience'...but a better learning experience is to play the way the coach wants the team to play when they win. If we are 10 goals down at 3/4 time, then OK - switch away. Jones in a negating role? Sounds fine. Pester and grunt, and leave the delivery to the Rolls Royces cruising by. This game will be a big test of our intensity - Sydney are such pains around the ball, but if we don't win here, its over, red rover.
  3. A very solid analysis - well done! The big questions are: how we are going to improve at stoppages, How do we decrease turnovers Who will be our link and go to players How do we increase, and keep up, our intensity on the ball carrier and receiver? These have been the areas that 'appear' concerning. It seems we have been trying a few things in the pre-season from point kick-ins. I remember we had some coast to coast goals early on in the NAB cup. I would imagine that when our game plan falls into place, and onour terms, we can do really well. When the opposition get on a roll and apply hard pressure, the younger guys may find the going tough. The real learning will be how to get the game back on our terms when the opposition start to 'smoke' us, and control the game, rather than be controlled. I think this would be one of the most valuable things for the team to learn in 2011, on their way to the 'window' 13-20.
  4. None of 'em will ever make Shizen's top 50. but best in the league - possibly. I hope the following players will be the 'real deal' Scully. Trengove. Jurrah. Frawley. Watts. Newton (only joking). There are a few others, but these are the ones that SHOULD be awesome.
  5. How do you judge that Freddie?? We have great sponsors (they are that by definition, because they support MFC!!!). When we start winning a lot more, we will draw a lot more sponsors. Gawd, we are better off than others!! ATM we are a long way short on memberships - who are all small sponsors of MFC. Go Dees. Sign up if you haven't. Sh*t-ducks on the 27th. Bring it on.
  6. I think I'm gunna 'hurley' with some of the comparisons.... Kid is in the spotlight, and I bet he knows it. He can dream of being a great, but he can only prove that on the park. Lets see how he gets on in 2011. My suspicion is he will be a roaming forward linking and delivering, getting a few goals along the way, rather than a Barry Hall sort of forward. This may suit him until he really does grow into himself. Good luck Jack - seems a few people are interested in how you go this year!
  7. I shall do exactly the same as if we are 5-0. I will support the team and go to each game with my heart in my mouth (isnt that what we do every game??). I will let the idiota in the media call for sackings and suggest unrest. I will watch this site to see which players get mauled here, and which ones are 'Lyonized'. And I will enjoy that it is FOOTY SEASON AGAIN!! Bring it on!!
