  1. Second game on the trot for me and the young bloke!

hard to turn around in this town without seeing another article about Harley Reid. The boy can play, but one player doesn’t make a midfield.  They are no Cripps, Walsh, Cerra… and I don’t think Jack Viney will be as easy to ‘don’t argue’ as some of his other victims this year!

Weather will be glorious.. looking forward to a beautiful spectacle of slick ball movement against some blue and yellow witches hats.

@davejemmolly If you and your family are seated near bay M33, your kids are very welcome to come to the front of our bay before the game to grab flags (we have a variety of sizes), handheld banners or a giant head to wave during the match. As long as they’re returned after the match (we once had a kid who got halfway to Jolimont station carrying a giant Tmac head because he sincerely thought he could keep it. Bless).

Same goes for everyone who sits in our bay or an adjoining one. I’m only singling out Dave because he and his family are visiting from Perth.

    GO THE MIGHTY DEES!

    ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

That’s so nice @WalkingCivilWar thanks so much!

I’ll double check the tickets and find out where we are!  Kids would be stoked to at least get a pic holding one of the giant heads to round the holiday out

Edit - turns out we’re in M29 woo hoo

    (plus a win of course)

  3. For the record, I was there today (from Perth no less), so my experience in doing training reports is even sketchier than WCW!

was there nice and early and watched 30 odd minutes of Melksham and salo go one on one.

even to my uneducated eye, Jake must be pretty close, seemed to be going at full speed (salo not so much) and was moving well and kicking them nicely.

The training sessions itself seemed pretty casual, goal kicking practice looked pretty relaxed. Chin seems a great fella who is often supportive of others efforts.

some of the midfield drills looked pretty clean, though one suspects everything looks easier at training.

everyone seemed in high spirits, and the boys were good natured when my kids chased them down after for some photos and signatures.

much love to Maysie (whom my wife and daughter were quite giddy over), Rick, Maxt, tmac, chin, Caleb and kozzie, and special shout out to Marty Hore who was an absolute champ!

    all the best tomorrow boys

  4. I suspected as much.

I was just curious after watching Jeremy Howe break his arm, doing what Jeremy Howe does.

I was wondering how that would affect his contract, as obviously he’s not picking up match payments for the next 6 months.

which seems somewhat unfair (being injured mid game) as opposed to being out of form.

  5. Hey Team,

    something I’ve often wondered.

When a players contract is reported as say $600k per year, is that broken up as being say $400k base and 200k in match payments?

And is that different if you are out of the side due to form (not collecting match payments) versus injured

    cheers

  6. Currently on the train to the game.

I reckon dees supporters outweigh the cats by 10 - 1!

should be a sea of red and blue there tonight.

will be great for the boys to play in front of a roaring crowd for the first time in a while!

  7. Hey guys,

much like every other Perth dees fan, I’d love a chance to get to the game as well.

Even better for a chance to meet a couple of other dees fans for a beer or two before the game!

Will just be me, as the 30 week pregnant wife is a non starter!

For proof I’m not an eagles nuffie , I’m happy to supply video of me dancing like a moron after the end of the cats game!

Ps - as I’m based in Perth, with a baby on the way, I’m no chance of making the grand final, so you can rest easy on that front!

  8. Regardless of how much money you make, going home to explain to the wife that you’ve been fined for doing something stupid is never a nice experience!

Lewis joking said as much a couple of months ago, that his wife was less than impressed about his last indiscretion

Interesting watching people's opinion change to now "I don't care if we dont make it." That's the soft underbelly attitude that has held this club back for decades. Show some ticker, be ruthless and don't accept mediocrity.

I’ve long been intrigued by statements if this ilk on demonland and other supporter forums.

Do you think that Goodwin and the rest of the team are thinking ‘Dave from Perth is cool with it’ so we just won’t try this week?

is there some form of after training event where we all get together and give the players hugs and hand out flowers?

if not for the fact that they get paid bloody well to play footy, they’ve all grown up being the ‘alpha dog’ in their footy clubs growing up and being used to winning, and the fact that as humans the player don’t want to see themselves on the back page of the paper being the recipient of cheap shots from the media, surely that’s motivation enough.

i call BS that the willingness of any football punter to accept mediocrity / demand greatness has anything at all to do with an individual football teams levels of motivation, desire, and general attitude around wanting to win on a weekly basis.

For the record, I reckon we’ll beat the Eagles this week. Go dees

He is down on form this year and again,  it's not that I don't want to rate Jetta highly it's just that his absolute best form is needed to be classed as a true difference maker.   But it's only 1 player Dave ... in the whole scheme of things we are still 5 or 6 good players away from being a genuine consistent contender.  Lewis I included but only just - we need him to be a distributor,  not as a ball winning in and under in crowded areas.  That is not his go these days.

My ambition for the list is to 5 goals better than the 2nd best team ... at various stages of football history we've seen any number of teams achieve that ideal.  Multiple flags often eventuate from that position of strength.  We've been there ourselves but that was a long time ago.

We are in a far far better position now than what we were 10 years ago or even 5 years ago but we are still a fair way off.  But that is just my opinion ... others are free to disagree.

With the salary cap and the draft it's very hard to add any more than 2 or 3 good players in any given season ... so to get to a really strong position with regards to the list requires great recruiting and a fair dose of luck.

I understand where you're coming from mate, and I completely agree.

It's long been said that you're only as good as your bottom six, and sadly, our bottom six have been found wanting when the spotlight has been on us this year.

That being said, my goals for the club aren't as lofty as some. Despite desperately wanting us to play well and make finals,  perhaps being from Perth, I don't have the time / water cooler investment than a lot of you 'dyed in the wool' have.

A few years ago, we were unwatchable, and at that time, all I wanted was to still be in the game at half time.

As we got, better, all I wanted to was to be in the game at 3/4 time, then around the place at full time.

Then I wanted us to stop having the 'melbourne' losses, against dockers etc  (St Kilda this year not withstanding).

Clearly we're on the right track. Our top end talent is all under 25, and pleasingly, falling over themselves to re-sign with the club for extended periods.

Did I want to dominate 2018 and pinch a flag.. bloody oath i did.

Am i devastated that Clarrie hasn't almost single handedly dragged us into the 4, not really.

Given where we have been for the last 12 years, and the 50 before that, I can wait another year.

Especially with the list we have, and the potential in that list.... so long as we're learning goody's lessons now.

    As much as I'd love a flag in 2018. I'll take 3 flags out of 6  between 2020 - 2025

And to me a good player is a player who plays well in 4 out of 5 games,  impacts games in that period of games or beats his opposite number for that amount of games.

I think you're being harsh on Jetta on this basis.  Rarely beaten for mine!

Is it bye-bye Tex for this season?

He must get a few weeks for that half-sling/half-driving tackle on Kelly.

Commentators were quick to play it down (as they do with better known player) arguing that Tex couldn't know the ball had fallen free.  Dangerfield got a week last year even tho he couldn't have known the ball had fallen free.  His tackle was far less malicious than Tex's.

Likes being the tough guy but nothing tough about that tackle.

Ryan nyhuis from Freo got three weeks for a similar tackle on Robbie gray I think.

i remember at the time the commentary was similar ‘didn’t know the ball had jarred free’.

didnt help him. Will be an interesting case for the afl of ‘first year rookie of an irrelevant club vs name player’

will get 2 weeks I reckon

I'm pretty sure the 2000 team (not sure if all or a majority or even just a handful) had a similar pact.

I definitely remembering Woey saying he didn’t drink his entire Brownlow year

  14. Was just listening to Duck and Campbell Brown on AFL.com and they reckon that whilst a few weeks ago, it was accepted that you would make 13 wins to make the eight, with recent results, that 12 and a healthy percentage will get the job done.

    Thoughts?

Edit - As an eternal optimist, I reckon we'll knock off cats, swans and gold coast, making this thread a moot point.

I raised it, as one of the worlds great football thinkers (carey), a football savant if you will, was discussing it with the grand-daddy of modern thought (brown), and as such, I thought i'd relay it here.

Also, I was bored of reading the 'go get gaff' thread, so I decided to start a new one!

  15. No need to panic.

i ran it with the kids this morning. They have us finishing second, after winning all remaining games!

they may be slightly biased though, my little girls second team is North Melbourne, because they’ve got Melbourne in their name!

  16. i suspect that he's underrated because most of his works is of the  'blink and you'll miss it' variety.

He doesn't do the flashy Dusty palm off etc.

Like all Dee's fans, I rate him as highly as everyone, and I'm still constantly surprised to see his total numbers at the end of each game.

I reckon I only see half of them, and I know he's going to be there doing it!
