    You are Russian, Tarax?   ?

No TKE, but we are Russianing for the next Flag! Before time runs out!

We can recommend a refreshing Red label Smirnoff with a Black label Tarax on ice. Or for the more affluent Demonland posters 'Legend of the Kremlin' neat. All in moderation of course! ?

I'm in the opposite Camp! Zero goals from a true CHF in a scratch match!? Nup Not up to it at present! Plenty of concern from me!

The dichotomy of views expressed in this thread and often across the spectrum of the zDemonland blogsphere. Brings to mind the glass half full v glass half empty conundrum, much loved by psychologists and their ilk. Our research has found where one sits is often not that simple. But on matters MFC we generally aspsire to option...

Red Goakickers: 4 Melksham, 2 Fritsch, 1 Bennell, Hanna, Hunt, Pickett

    Blue Goalkickers: 3 Brown, 2 Spargo, 1 Bedford, Jordan, C Wagner, Neal-Bullen

Happy to be corrected if someone saw these differently

Concerningly no goals to Tommy Mac or Weeds

    Melksham  4

    Fritsch 3

    Brown 3

    Spargo 2

    Hunt 1

    Pickett 1

    Bennell 1

    Hannan 1

    Bedford 1

    Jordon 1

    C Wagner 1

Not concerned about Tom from very limited vision. Seemed to play as a pivot at CHF found space and distributed ball well.

Smith will not play forward, he has trained all preseason as a defender and played the majority of his career as a defender, we have an abundance of mid forwards named in this weeks team and he will not be one of them.

Loved watching his old man taking a massive specie bring on SOS!

No Fantasia, no Heppell for Johnnie Weasel and his injectors, with our full list, some good in's with AVB, Hanna and Wilson Pickett, it is basically a must win now!

Will you and Wilson be celebrating at the Sunday Eve disco with a karaoke duet of "In the Midnight Hour" or commiserating with "Mama Told Me Not To Come"?

His capability and potential is not under question from me in any way Tarax.  And i'm all for the younger guys getting the occasional look at the big league and see how it  and they roll.

But IMHO the body also needs to be built over a few pre-seasons before it will begin to stand up to the knocks and rigour against the big frames and fully developed athletes he'll be up against each week.  That takes time and along with that development comes confidence in body and ability to play at the highest level.  Too early and the reverse could happen if the FD isn't careful.  The next level from there is to start holding down a position or role on a regular basis, which for most takes a little more work in progress and time.

Bring him in by all means on occasions but not sure he needs to be in this early on a regular basis is all i'm saying when there are two alternatives with more experience and bigger frames also sitting in the McGoos.  One of which i thought we picked for the very role that's being asked of LJ atm.

    Rusty,

Its encouraging to read a number of posts here that exhibit enthusiasm and passion for all things red and blue. Particularly if framed in a considered, intelligent and positive way. As it has indubitably been expressed here previously by other posters, that Demonland at its best is a 'broad church' that encompasses a wide spectrum of views and opinions from MFC supporters 'somewhat tolerably' (but not on all instances).

As an insider one can understand the almost near universal angst here, over what may appear to an untutored outsider, that the club barely escaped a near death experience with last week's result. Simon Goodwin from all reports addressed that immediately after the final siren, by emphasizing to the team, the four points were in the bank despite Carlton's late heroics. Singing the team song twice or thrice? initially without Captain Max. As Steven May stated "a non-issue".

As the unique circumstances of the 2020 season have and will unfold, teams, coaches and players best adapted to post Covid-19 changes will survive and eventually flourish. Successful evolution doesn't happen overnight or at the drop of a hat. Those championing a more revolutionary approach, by pillorying the FD, calling for the removal the coach, dropping, retiring or trading out players perceived as under performing, (without fair opportunity) tread a more dangerous path.

In response to your post, many here seem to be already invested in the contributions, that a youthful Kysaiah Pickett and Trent Rivers can and will make to the team's success this season. Luke Jackson is also no shrinking violet, physically he appears to be well prepared for the rigours of AFL footy. Which is testament to the training, mentoring and development of young players in the elite pathway to AFL footy. Indeed your statement 'The shortened quarters means much less game time and more than likely favours the player who has a significant athletic burst edge.' nails it.

ps. Fully support your call concerning our former captain 'give chunk one more run given it was his first game back > age factor.'

Playing Jackson this early ahead of Weid and Brown isnt the smartest of moves imv.

Many here have commented that Luke Jackson appears not ready for AFL including our good selves (see Joe Boy's 3 word analysis thread June 13th) "needs solid apprenticeship". Admittedly LJ had a rather modest debut both impact wise and statistically, but a closer examination of his contribution does reveal his considerable potential. He appears to read the flight of the ball well, as evident by him presenting for marking contests on multiple occasions  and getting his hands on the ball. Only to have the ball slip from his grasp. However later in the match he did catch the Sherrin in a contested marking encounter against an opponent. As an acquired skill, a big grab in a pack situation must be one of the most difficult to master, especially in a fiercely competitive AFL game of footy. With powerfully built, match hardened opponents crashing in. As a previous poster on this thread wrote, LJ was the beneficiary of some free kicks for pack infringements. His very first free kick for goal was from a fair distance out, on the half-forward flank at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. It was a booming, confident kick almost goal post high and not far shy of the full points. Other weapons in his arsenal? His leap is extra-ordinary reminiscent of another youthful enigma with flowing blond locks, whose debut unlike Luke's was a spectacular triumph against the demons of old. Leaving the stratosphere and back on terra firma, LJ appears way more coordinated and graceful, perhaps reminiscent of an older Luke, (both have the basketball background).

The best available AFL apprenticeship environment in 2020?

"In this post Covid-19 season where the unusual is normal, give our neophyte stars the opportunity to ascend the AFL stage and strut their stuff."

The crazy thing is that, when Fritta first came to the Club, he was a dead eye di*k in front of goal!  What happened??1785306985_bb3.jpg.93114ee4c1bdac2f66188a6ef56a8c53.jpg

Judging from this 'recent' training shot? Ball drop could be an issue! Anyway we'll back Bayley to get it right. Just fine tinker the bio-mechanics.

Brainwashed by the MFC is closer to the truth. Poor team selection is at the root of yesterday's problems. Playing Jackson instead of the Weid or Brown. Harmes and Smith in the back line. Very ordinary decisions from a very ordinary FD.

Agreed there's a lot of it about. Within the footy bubble and beyond. That being said there is certainly evidence of perceptive and insightful contributions here. Hopefully those in positions able to enact change choose wisely and  provide creative solutions over time. Much prefer critical thinking over group think though, as this week's result fades into the rear view mirror.

Why, if the Brainstrust at Demonland want Smith up forward, can't the footy dept see it???
    Beggars Belief really!!

Hopefully Sunday morning with a latte has kicked in and for some the emotion of a close shave has cooled to almost rational. The merry-go-round mentality of changes for next week that many here appear to ascribe to 'beggar's belief' (quote). Perhaps brainwashed at demondland is more apt.

  12. As usual a most perceptive and insightful post Whispering _ Jack. We absolutely stole the chocolates and they're left with some rather over boiled lollies. Take an ugly ugly win any day to coming up one behind short.

Query on your very first post today for GAMEDAY "Its been a long time coming". Were you channeling the great Sam Cooke, David Crosby or the Zutons?

Agree. It was not great. We had them and RELAXED.  May is good but needs to do the defensive thing better sometimes.

Five goal lead but Blues got a sniff. Danger signs.

Detected a whiff of bathwater that quarter. Hope Goody pulls the plug at halftime!

We have this one, despite the two absentees - and that has not really panned out as a concrete omission, yet. There is suddenly some selected pace, foot skills, mobility reeking of intent ... go boys! Hope TMac gets some time at CHB, once again.

If we all care to recall... Tom has 'unfinished business' with this mob. Would love to see him run amok at CHF. Pleased to see the inclusion of Jayden Hunt, courageous with a never say die attitude to boot.

It's the fumbling that annoys me most

Nibbler seemingly could not get a 'grip' last season. But has shown some positive signs earlier in the pre-season. Statistically not the worst performer in round 1 against the Eagles in Perth. In fact recall him kicking a smart snap goal from a crowded pack. At his best a solid team contributor at the coalface.

So, the powder blue training duds lasted all of -- ONE day?!!

All in the wash Barry! According to Japanese Prime Minister Mr Shinzo Abe a high priority on personal hygiene is part of the 'unique' strategy that has contained the covid 19 epidemic there.  One suspects the 40 page AFL compliance document has strictly stipulated the daily laundry of  training duds.

Classic. That Demon Card used to be in the Twistie Packets back in ‘69, all yellow and cheese powder  but that’s him!!!

As long as that's not white powder without the cheesy flavour SWYL!  Prefer my twisties straight out of  a freshly opened pack, wholesome and crunchy ?

  19. Not wishing to claim a scoop but this news doesn't 'seem' to have appeared elsewhere on a demonland thread. According to an article on afl.com 'Coaching squeeze hits as Dees make tough calls' Daniel is not unfortunately one of the twenty five staff currently retained at MFC. A sign of the times sadly. Daniel has been a loyal servant to the club both as an experienced player, member of the coaching staff and runner on match days. Max Roach has also been stood down from the coaching staff. Wish them both well.

Fantastic idea.  Can you imagine it.

     If this comes to fruition, we're happy to attend and provide a detailed report. With two provisos;

    1. Demonland provides us with AFL accredited press passes (expect it will RSVP invitation only event)

    2.  Our 'chesty bonds' must have a prominent red V. (thongs are of course de rigueur)

Appreciate the link Dr. G! British Pathe footage, with an authentic Aussie voiceover. Well before our time, but has that distinctive style of going to flicks (Saturday nights?) and watching the Australian Movietone News. Rupert was still learning his trade at the Melbourne Herald. 80 odd seconds of the stuff of legends! A viewing of the brief highlights show how truly magnificent the Redlegs team of that era must have been. Surprisingly reminiscent of the contested ball, once possession was gained, move the ball quickly with creative handball and clean kicking skills to an open forward line, where will of the wisp small forwards kick accurately for goal. (Considered to be desirable in today's era of the 'game plan'). Norm Smith received an award for 'most unselfish'. Evidence of his team orientated play was clearly on display twice at 00:30 with a well directed handball that cleared the pack, followed at 01:00 by a 'creative' handball to Alby Rodda front and square for a six pointer. Both involvements would be described as goal assists now. Never going to complain about the look away, backwards over

      Kook2.jpg.c13abb6a19ef0e641e4d812d3124d7ef.jpg

    the head handball again!
