  1. "My real wish for our survival is to become a department of the MCC again."

I want more than anything for the survival of the MFC - my greatest fear tho is that our survival is getting more perilous every year - in commercial terms, we are bankrupt and should be liquidated. As a department of MCC we would be immortal.

  2. there is still continued criticism of Ian Ridley and his fellow board members about the merge - very unfair, I believe.

These guys were acting in what they thought was the only way for some presence of MFC to continue. Other alternatives were compulsory merges like the AFL forced on Fitzroy, or the AFL cancelling our licence and issuing of it to a totally new entity. Ian and co thought the Hawks merger at least would preserve some past history and continuation in a merged form.

I'm glad that we still have a MFC to support, but EVERY YEAR survival is on a knife-edge - this is 12 years after the merge plan.

Gutnick came and went like a fart in a head-wind - from recollection, he didn't even pay his remainder of about $300,000 that he owed to the club for a superbox.

I am doing my damnest to help the club survive, BUT I have real fears it may all go into oblivion soon, and I will then think - perhaps Ian and Co were correct.

My real wish for our survival is to become a department of the MCC again.

  3. I think at the end of round 22 he was leading the comp for hitouts and others passed him in the finals.

However, i think Jeff would be the first to admit that his hitouts were not as effective this season as seasons past. That said it is one of my real gripes with Demonland the bashing Jeff White has received at times. Ruined by a rule change, he remains one of our best players and has held the ruck together with literally no support for years. In these cynical days White remains one of the frighteningly few players i feel genuine pride for that he is representing the Dees.

Thanks guys for the clarifications and views - I certainly didn't mean to knock Whitey in my headline - it is just that the fact of most hitouts truly amazed me - he has certainly been restricted with the new centre bounce rule , and I didn't guess the tally of hitouts that he obtained.

He gets little support, so Meeson and Johnson have to take some of the pressure off him - I doubt that Jamar is as capable.

  4. i cannot wait til wednesday nights footy show to see the lign up..its my favourite time of the weekdays seeing the line up and seeing what the coach has planned for the match...

I do not enjoy Sunday and Monday games though - you have to wait until Saturday and Sunday papers to find the final team, as only squads have been named before that.

  5. Libba - in The Age he is quoted as saying the club's actions ( referring to his allegation of tanking) made him feel 'extremely uncomfortable' - yeah, so uncomfortable that he resigned from the club there and then, and went public with his reason for resigning !!!

His outburst now might well be the case, but his action of saying it now indicates to me hypocrisy and sour grapes- if he still had his coaching job at Carlton , I doubt we would have heard a word from him.

AFL - they investigated Roos on a similar allegation re NAB Cup - they HAVE to investigate Carlton.

Draft selections/ tanking - abolish priority picks, and run a raffle or raffles for 1st choice etc - but I don't know of how many teams to go in the raffle/s

  6. A senior player who is on big bikkies. We need 100 % devotion and dedication. Surely some singing rubbish cant add to his 2008 preparation and planning. 2 reports in 2 weeks, and we are not looking real flash.

    Get fair dinkum Robbo.

Am I out on a limb or do others feel the same way? Do this cr@p when you are retired mate. Just concentrate on kicking goals and being 100% focussed.

Would you want your employer to dictate to you what you did in your spare time? - you can't do that photography class, you can't take your kid's to the beach, you can't read MAD comics - whatever your hobby/ies are.

Robbo should be free to indulge in his hobby- it is NOT the reason his on-field so far is less than 100% - we have about 30 other players who are suffering similar performance on-field. Maybe they are all spending too much time with their stamp collections !!

Robbo's effort can only do MFC good - you go kid.

  7. i have always wondered why the hell there isnt a team in Tasmania where there is a lot of love for the game, they have a nice cosy stadium and so many great players in the AFL are from there.

Geelong ( approx 250,000 ) can support a team - you would think Tassie (500,000 ) could - Canberra is another one that would be a starter , one would think.

    IMO, Darwin is too small.

  8. I've been checking up on the train timetables today at VLine. I'm curious to know why the journey on the 2.40pm train from Southern Cross to South Geelong and has no stops on the way takes an hour and one minute while the 3pm train journey that has three stops on the way takes 49 minutes.

Life seems to always throw up these little conundrums but if anyone has a clue on this matter it would be appreciated and would help me make my decision as to which train to catch.

I think Geelong is an a few hours behind Melbourne time !!

  9. i think there is something little behind the scenes...im probably wrong, it was more of a "thats the only thing i can think of that is worth keeping him there for" kind of thing...FWIW, there has actually been three age ads this year

Often newspapers, radio stations and Tv channels do contras with the footy clubs - they run Club ads, if the Club advertises the media company in it's ( the Clubs) publications and events.

I don't know what arrangement MFC and The Age had tho.

  10. This is great news - another poster said that the fact Neita had to think so long for his decision was a bit of a worry - I think the reverse - Neita wanted to assess his body over the summer break to see if he came up ok, and could perform like a captain should. ( think this means 'biffo' when required too !! )

In summary, I am glad he did not just rush into things saying Yeah , I will be captain - he has considered all pros and cons, and made a very consious and committed choice.

GO ( well, I really mean stay!) NEITA - GO DEES.

  11. The age is home delivered. Front page, Sport - look for Football news. Quiz. markets.

    herald-Sun Online, AFL news.

    Demonland.

Once a week see what Ology is about. I feel more distant from them now than I have ever felt before.

Herald Sun or Age-whichever is available as a freebie at the coffee lounge - Demonland at night.

I know what you mean about Demonology - nothing much except bitching between posters on politics - Demonland rocks !

  12. Negative attitude brings negative results - I hope the players do not have such a pessimistic approach as some writers on 'Land do.

We had one helluva year in '07 for injuries - we lost so many games by VERY small margins - ( I know all the sayings -If your Aunty had a mo, she'd be your Uncle etc) BUT, we only have to have an ounce of luck go our way in the injury department, and a 10 % lift ON AVERAGE from each player ( obviously that means 25% + from some players while others may go backwards ), we can make a realistic attempt at significant improvement on 2007 - and SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCEEDS.

Yes, I am a Sales Manager and motivator at work ! BUT, this is not physcho gibberage - it CAN work.
