What is the future for Bate, Cheney & Mcnamara?
Inner Demon replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
Demoted to rookie list... Someone post the Picard facepalm for me. -
Why do people keep describing Newton as a threat up forward when he's never once actually been one in an AFL game. If he hadn't grown to a certain size I sincerely doubt he'd be on an AFL list.
-
I would rather have Aussie playing in the ruck than Newton.
-
Apologies in advance for being boring and sensible, but I would be pretty pleased if we didn't even attend Trade Week. 2011 is not our Top 4/Premiership contender year and no single player we could conceiveably pick up in a trade can change that. Equally, I don't believe we have any expendable players of sufficient quality to attract a high draft pick. I believe we should top up our list with a couple of draft picks and a fresh rookie list then let the kids show us how our list is really shaping. Once we're a finals team, then we can look to fill any gaps via trade.

Ugh... This old chestnut. Just because there has been 1 fairytale story of a player being drafted late turning into a superstar is not an argument that every player taken at the bottom of the draft will also be a good player. Drafting, talent identification and player development is in a different stratosphere to what it was 20 years ago when Hird arrived. If Dylan's brother wasn't a good player this conversation would never have even begun. It's as simple as that. Kyle Hardingham was taken 5 picks later than Dylan Grimes and has actually displayed some real ability as a strong marking forward. Why isn't there a thread about him???? It's illogical romanticism.

Who will take the reins from Junior..?
Inner Demon replied to demondomination's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's not entirely fair Keyser. There absolutely was talk about the captaincy being written into Davey's contract. Of course, all that talk was coming from people who haven't the faintest idea how footy clubs are run and what is included in contracts. -
I would really hope he wins the Best Clubman award at the B & F. Would be a fitting way for him to leave the Club.
-
It's amusing watching the comments on McLaren on Twitter. Supporters of every single club believe that he singled them out for especially poor treatment. Amazing.
-
The 42nd bloke played by the 2nd worst team in the comp after being drafted 97th. Doesn't sound like a star in the making to me.
-
Yes & no. GC can actually take more than one player per club with their "free agency" type arrangement with the other club's permission. So if they wanted both Miller & Bell then we would obviously give our blessing and be compensated for both. However, outside of taking either of these players through the "free agency" type arrangement they could wait to pick them up in the draft. I doubt they would want to waste draft picks when they needn't so if either or both of these players goes to GC, we will likely receive compensation.

That list is from the VFL website. This week is the first week of VFL Finals. If they're not on that list, they're not playing at Casey this week.
-
Quite the contrary. SEN reported this morning via Chris Connolly that Brad was leaning towards giving up his farewell game with the Dees on Sunday so that he could play for Casey. Says it all about the kind of bloke he is really. Also reported that Guy McKenna had indicated interest in him. It'll kill me to see him play well against us, but he is one of the all-time great blokes of our Club so I hope he gets another chance.
-
Here's the list: Daniel Bell, Kyle Cheney, Jack Fitzpatrick, Danny Hughes, Paul Johnson, Addam Maric, Tom McNamara, Brad Miller, Michael Newton, James Strauss, Austin Wonaemirri It's a pretty disappointing list really. I was expecting a fleet of kids being able to play together and get finals experience as a group, but I'd see us delisting 6/11 of those players. Puts a pretty significant dent in Casey's finals chances I'd have thought. Pity.
-
You're dead right. We should try to win more games. I hope Dean Bailey sees this.
-
I don't like it when we lose either. I too would prefer it if we won each week. Can we rename the thread, "I like it when we win and don't like it when we lose"???
-
What is there to have an opinion on??? You're not putting forward any suggestions, you're just screaming at the sky.
-
This issue is long recognised by the footy dept and they've been trying to work on it already this season as illustrated by the 'travel' game to Geelong. There's no magic formula to apply here, they just have to keep working away at it until they improve.
-
Miller had already been advised, and I highly doubt he was keeping the news to himself. But on Brad's behalf, I would imagine the players would not appreciate the news being broken in this fashion.
-
They're not going to revolt over it, but it would be a mistake to think they have taken it well. In isolation, it wasn't all that bad given the circumstances, but to have two bad things happen in quick succession tends to amplify the impact of both events.

You don't "announce" the delisting of a player in the leadership group via the Development/VFL Coach chatting with reporters after a game against Werribee. This is a really bad look and I hope the playing group don't react as badly as they would be justified in doing. They were already stinging from their captain being pushed, they didn't need to see this days later.
-
Well I certainly wouldn't want to be branded an "apologist" so here is the only sensible solution to the problem of the youngest list in the AFL not being undefeated that I can imagine: SACK BAILEY!!!! SACK CONNOLLY!!!! SACK SCHWAB!!!! SACK STYNES!!!!! DELIST ALL 46 PLAYERS!!!! Will that do the trick???
-
Yeah, because the chief concern of the Marketing & Comms Manager is how the players perform at AAMI Stadium and once she is informed that the fans of the team actually don't like losing, she'll mention that at the next meeting with the football department and everything will change.
-
You said it.

I hereby dub this "The Michael Newton Rule".
