  1. Will he play or is Malthouse just dick teasing?

Malthouse loves Dick so I think it's a straight in for mine.

Whilst Dick is good, even at his hardest I feel about 3/4 of the CollingWood team could eat Dick for breakfast.

The prospect of a fully fit Dick on Queen's Birthday gets me excited.

The question does remain though. In all seriousness, which "lucky" Melbourne defender takes Dick? Do we stick Batram on Dick and hope he can absorb Dick's explosiveness, or do we make someone else take Dick or perhaps just leave it up to the lose man in defense?

FWIW I rate Dick and if we're not careful he could [censored] us. We must stay tight in the back half.

  2. You can blame this post on the AFL and the Bye... For wont of anything better to do, I was looking through my old LP record collection (vinyl, not those new fangled CD things) and came across the following gem:

Footy Favourites (VFL Approved) on the Studio One label - there's no year on it, but I vaguely recall it being gifted to me in 1977.

    Side 1:

    1. Tim Watson - Ruby (don't take your love to town)

    2. Trevor Barker - I Can See Clearly Now

    3. Ray Shaw - Danny Boy

    4. Wayne Schimmelbusch - 20 Miles

    5. Barry Round - Little Jeannie

    6. David Cloke - The Letter

    Side 2:

    1. Michael Turner - I Go to Rio

    2. Laurie Serafini - Hard Rock Cafe

    3. Mark Maclure - Imagine

    4. Michael Moncrieff - Don't Stand So Close to Me

    5. Robert Flower - Macho Man

    6. Kevin Templeton - Who's Sorry Now

I really don't think it was an accident to finish this album with Templeton's rendition of "Who's Sorry Now" by the way.

For just a fleeting moment I felt like Indiana Jones as he held the Holy Grail in his hands in Raiders 3.

Nice!! Old enough to have a record made of vinyl yet tech savy enough to be able to use the Internets! Love it.

Of course the album and track list need to be updated to be relevant for today. Here's my take:

    Side 1:

    1. Liam Jurrah - Given to Fly - Pearl Jam

    2. Colin Sylvia - Your so Vain - Carly Simon

    3. Tom Scully - Please don't go - KWS

    4. Brent Moloney - Party all night - Sean Kingston

    5. Jamie Bennell - Part time lover - Stevie Wonder

    6. Jack Watts - Question Existing - Rihanna

    Side 2:

    1. Mathew Warnock - How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead

    2. James Frawley - Solid as a Rock - Sizzla

    3. Rohan Bail - Run - Snow Patrol

    4. Luke Tapscott - I feel the Earth Move - Martika

    5. Jordie McKenzie - Closer - Nine Inch Nails

    6. Michael Newton - Nothingman - Pearl Jam

**Bonus track- Jim Stynes - MFC - Pearl Jam**

  3. There is football played all over Australia apart from AFL, doesn't seem to bother them at all. A twilight/evening game would give you more than enough time to worship the death of your imaginary friend.

    Religious discussions. Brilliant.

Let's leave the Science Vs fairy tales debate to another forum shall we.

  4. I am not here to be punking Demonland.. I don't need attention. 145 is not genius level.. far from it.. you are way, way off the mark.. I do not claim to have a brilliant mind. I also do not read minds thus the reason why I didn't at the time figure out what wyl intended. Sorry, Summer Biease. I thought I had heard the last of this sort of stuff since I posted a reply on the matter. I doubt the monkeys at Melbourne Zoo could see what you claim they can..When is all this crap going to stop !! Welcome to Demonland ...I don't think..

You know what it is? It's the curvature of the "p" and the "g" on the other side of the small "l" which makes it appear an "i"

I have good eyesight but it is like some kind of eye trickery. Surely you can see it.

I call for a poll on this. I know a great deal of folk here would have made that mistake..

  5. Dean showed he was ruthless with the tanking. It took balls and was very ruthless. As he was with cutting some of the older deadwood around the club.

That said, he lost me when he named Watts as sub this week. I've been unsure about Dean and sat on the fence for a long time, but I don't think he has what it takes.

    BTW Hannabal is psot on.

So he is ruthless in getting us to where we are and it took balls and you are impressed with that, but he makes Watts a sub for a week and he has lost you?

I don't understand how you can question his coaching abilities over one decision which hasn't even been proven to be a bad one.

I was initially dumbfounded as to why Watts was named sub, but then I thought about it a bit. What if naming Watts a sub instead of starting him was a msg that full games/starting on the field isn't always a walk up proposition, perhaps it could ignight some kind of competition in the lad. What if they thought he could gain just as much from the lesson that not being an automatic selection brings- ie "You want a spot on an AFL field, well it's a competitive game, and position for that matter, so bring your "A" game.

Maybe smashing the AFL newbies wouldn't have been as confidence boosting as everyone thinks. Everyone (at that stage) thought they stinked anyway.

What if they thought as much confidence could be gained out of one quarter of play as apose to 4.

Who knows, there are many different aspects to footy. Give Bailey a chance to prove what he can do with this list instead of looking for any excuse to jump ship so soon.

  6. Is anyone going to write what was said?

    Haha good point.

Paraphrasing here because was cooking at the time-

Asked about why Watts was sub instead of whole game- Watts was seen as the most out of form forward/it was a form thing- didn't elaborate too much on it, think he was seen as the 22nd best at the time, which contradicts the theory that a sub should be a horses for courses scenario- not your 22nd player.

Some footage was shown of Chippa with Prince William and was asked if he'd take William over Watts, some banter ensued and it was revealed William was unwilling to put on one of our jumpers (the pompous [censored]) also that Watts was stronger and a better kick than William, Watts has put on a fair bit of weight since being at the MFC etc

Asked about Carro's article and if he took anything from the lack of praise on the coaching department. Didn't see anything wrong with it and spoke to Schwabby about it.. didn't hear too much about this as was pre-occupied- sorry.

Shown footage of a rather enamoured Davey with his arm around Bails in a quarter time huddle. Funny stuff. Standard Before the Game fare.

  7. After today's result, going back on how we only won by 90 points. The Sun's are improving each week as they should. But unlike Port today, when the suns came at us, we held and powered away...a week later they overrun Port at home at a ground we rarely win at.

Compairing today's game with ours last week is a pointless exercise. Results are largely based on a team's endeavour and motivation on the day.

All this puts into perspective is how dire Port's situation is right now. They are where we were a few years ago. Rudderless.

  8. I really want to see Jurrah rested. An injury to him could cause major issues for our finals hopes.

Needs match fitness- although it's just a shitty NAB Challenge match he will probably be better for it. Can't exclude on the chance of an injury as it could just as easily happen in round 1 (heaven forbid)

Although in saying that would much prefer Jamar have a rest. Give Spencer a full match with Martin backing up. Injury to Jamar will hurt us most.

  9. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/108715/default.aspx

Aaron Davey, Jack Grimes, Jack Trengove and Clint Bartram have been rested from that loss, while Colin Garland (calf) is injured. (From article)

    Brisbane squad-

    http://www.lions.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/5085/newsid/108702/default.aspx

Black and Power to return. Good.

Very excited to see Tapscott coming on for his first run. Although I won't actually be seeing it.. Will be interesting to see how the backline holds up with no Garland (anyone know anything about his injury), Grimes or Batram.

Un-pleased about not seeing Blease- would have loved to see if he could play a running half back role as I feel he could be the talent we are screaming out for. What is wrong with him.

Hopefully the great un-washed don't feel it necessary to dish it out to Scully. Someone better be on head-butt patrol.

  10. Stephanie Gilmore deserves top spot upon all these lists.

George Sotiropoulos deserves a spot too- toughest sport in the world and has only lost one fight out of 16 professional bouts (lost one, dq another)- won his last 7 fights in the UFC (throw in a couple more for the TUF series, loss came after receiving a finger in the eye) and had it not been for the fact he is in an ultra-competitive weight class could easily be current light weight champion of the world.

Special mention for most courageous sportperson; Anna Mears. Champion stuff, coming back from the brink like that, was truly moved after her Comm games performance!

  11. How's the fly's taste today E? Mate your quicker to snap than a venus trap!

Sorry for ignoring the logic, I wasn't aware that there was a hint of logic in any of this and thus don't concern myself with it.

    He is gone.

This whole saga was born from a rumour, many people are jumping at shadows and forming their own conclusions from assumptions that have been tailor made to suite their own fears.

I strongly believe at the end of the year when the kid re-signs there will be a lot of embarrassed posters. Chill out a little buddy, it's not always doom and gloom at the MFC..

  12. "The Tom Scully to GWS Guide for Dummies" available for $9.99 at all good bookstores.

    This is obviously a crucial topic for the Melbourne Football Club, and it's no surprise to me that this thread is as well worn as it currently is. A few points to clarify the situation from my vantage point (some of this is just packaging much of what's been said by others into burger format) and hopefully quell some of the desires for a group hara kiri session, and apologies for providing no new info;

    1. There seems to be a feeling among some the general populace that Scully is gone because he hasn't re-signed yet or made a public statement, or that he has actally already signed with GWS. As earlier noted - the statement from his management WAS the public statement. Good sporting clubs don't do their contract negotiations through the media, and that was a fairly unique statement in light of the growing unrest amongst the Melbourne faithful. Secondly, there is no way known he would have already signed with GWS. Unless he physically combusts, his value is only going to increase as the season progresses. Signing with them this early is only in the best interest of GWS, and duds Scully. It is a simple matter of giving himself the best chance at a bigger contract by improving on-field performance over the course of his current contract. It is completely reasonable that Tom is allwed to do this. I think all along it would have been his intention to conduct his contract negotiations in the second half of 2011, and that the current media hysteria would be somewhere between irritating and quite disconcerting for him. I'm not hanging out for him to make an announcement on a live news cross, but then again I don't think he'll leave.

    2. That Scully will go because the money will be too much to refuse. I'm trying to recall good players who have left clubs in the last few years and their (supposed) motivations for doing so. Judd left WC because of 'player culture' and chose his club based on money. Ablett certainly had financial reasons to leave but was increasingly unhappy at Geelong and could play with his brother at GC. Bruce - not offered more than 1 year at Melbourne. Scott Thompson - went home for family reasons. Fev - nutcase. Burgoyne - Choco and Port growing on the nose. I'm sure there are many more examples, but you get the point. The reality is, that for a player to want to move, there is almost always an unhappiness with their current club. I don't know Tom personally, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Let's say he is offered $800k by GWS and $500k by Melbourne. That's a lot different than the difference between $100k and $400k. I can't see a professional footballer purely leaving for a bigger contract when all the other intangibles are in favour of staying with the current club. If Scully is happy at Melbourne, and we're not disgracefully miserly in contract negotiations, I think he'll stay.

    3. Ultimately, we like to be in control of things, and it's frustrating that it's out of our hands. Short of hitting Andrew Demetriou in the face with a frozen mutton chop in the local supermarket, we're not really going to be able to have a positive impact on the situation. Hopefully the club continues to remain as attractive a playing destination for him as possible, and avoids unthinkably soiling itself with measures like playing him at Casey or giving him ultimatums. Happy Scully = Demon Scully. Just remember the positives. All GWS have to offer is extra money. We're not offering to pay him in magic beans. At Melbourne, he's got friends, family, the chance to play at the G more than 50% of the season, greater endorsement opportunities, and the opportunity to win flags in the near future, all while earning a very healthy wage.

Nice post and I agree. Point 3 sums it up nicely for me, at the end of the day it is the positives that will keep him at Melbourne and the extra money on offer from GWS (whatever it indeed is) wouldn't be enough to pluck him out of his current environment.

    Logic 101..

  13. You were listening to SEN last Saturday weren't you? I heard it too. "Terry" a North supporter infuriated me, I talked about his rant in the Scully to GWS thread.

It is a case of jealousy. Plain and simple. They crave the attention we received and they never get it. My theory is that they are a boring club- boring colours, boring strip, boring mascot, boring name. White and blue stripes invoke no stimuli, a kangaroo is a dull marsupial. Even their name; "North Melbourne" suggests they are a sub district club who lack the presence to claim their own territory. They have low membership numbers and the only media attention they get is via scandals/shenanigans.

In a state with 9 Victorian teams some teams are going to get more attention than others. I would argue that out of all of them, North receive the least amount of attention by far. Why do they have to target us? Maybe because they feel their progress has been on par or greater than ours but we get all the acknowledgements, I would be [censored] if I were them too but I wouldn't be displaying it the same way as them, having a sook on the radio ffs.

Hope they fold. Damn you "Terry"

  14. I've had one of our crew pull out of 127 so i've got 1 ticket in premium for anyone interested at cost ($410). it will go on e-bay late next week.

You would want to be putting that on ebay ASAP as there are less than 2 weeks till the event, and there is the possibility it may pass at auction (harder selling single tickets sometimes) and you will have to re-list. Hope your mate will cover it if any problems selling, that's pretty disappointing..

Thiago Silva tested positive but no news if he will be pulled out of Rampage fight. If he does (which he will) Evans to replace. So Rampage V Evans II!
