  1. Your post suggested that the correct sanction should hurt the player and the club.....ie 5k and 1 week is too lenient and doesnt hurt the player or the club.
  2. or There's not much in this the posters have nothing to say
  3. Who will do the banning? Will the use of a proscribed cliche lead to Rhino pulling your entire post?... or just deleting the offending part. What will the penalty be for transgression... do we need some MRP type guidelines? "talls take time"........ sentiment OK, wording poor... negligent, low impact 90 points "Patience is a virtue" .......... out of the play, medium impact 150 points 1 week with an early plea. "getting games into the youngsters", "youth policy", "will be top flight".........out of the play, high impact (each of these really [censored] me) no early plea, straight to the tribunal and a minimum of 6 weeks
  4. If the current top was RED it might be ok.... the fact that it is closer to pink makes it hard to love
  5. I started out thinking the new logo was busy and ill considered and not a patch on the one it was replacing (the blue square with the red yoke) which I thought was a step back from the stylised demon it replaced which was worse than the......and so-on. Now I think this logo is fantastic, has some story and a bit of longevity......does this mean I'm maturing and developing taste....who knows. I guess I'll know I have grown up when I stop believing what I read on Demonland
  6. I can't understand this....are you saying: 1) Sylvia will be a valued contributor and over the rest of his career we will look back on a watershed moment defining the "New" MFC or 2) He will be a dinosaur of the past (as opposed to those troublesome dinosaurs of the future)...his career is over (in which case the first phrase..".For the rest of his career" makes no sense)
  7. I think Donald Rumsfeld summed it up: "There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know" is it any wonder that running a player list at AFL level is so difficult
  8. "However, the Demons made the tough decision after failing to make contact to discuss his future" from the Herald article. Can't see any hope for a rookie re-listing if that is the case. A pity but seemed inevitable over the last 12 months
  9. Dees deal also has dad issues Interesting article... of course we all know the 2 situations are completely different, but it did highlight (for me anyway) the way the AFL manages issues like this and ends up with multiple shade of grey
  10. I've said it before......Reminds me of some embarassing great uncle.... you know the sort, showing the signs of advancing age, thinks that because they've been around for a long time that people should listen (and value) what they say..... despite the fact that half of it is indecipherable and the rest is irrelevant, wrong or a generation out of date.
  11. I thought it was because they were young men, highly paid, working part time (yes I know they train) .... same demographic that get's slugged a fortune on car insurance.
  12. Being played behind the ball as a "quarterback" saw opposition work him out...IMO he needs to go back into the forward line and regain confidence. At the same time, AD doesn't deserve to be flogged for a very ordinary year as a play maker in a team with no plan and next to no play. Let's reconvene the court martial in June 2012
  13. Are you saying you supported that debacle? think it made a difference? set us up for a great year didn't it.... That wasn't PR .... it was pathetic... making your vice captain "confess" to a binge drinking problem ....and in that case at least Moloney admitted he was out drinking hard in season....but the rumour mill (subsequently unfounded) was all around him urinating in a bar Compared with this story...
  14. Sanctimonious tripe..... and mindless defence..... the whole discussion is an indicator of the void that the end of the season leaves in our lives.... and btw........ Anyone who quotes any newspaper in the 2000's as a fact base to support any argument, under any circumstances, wants their head read.... Those who love him leap in to defend, those who don't see it is as a sign of moral turpitude.... Me?.....I'll be interested to see what Sylvia says, whether the club requires an dressed up faux hand-wringing exercise a la Beamer.
  15. Draws significant commentary for his weaknesses (turning circle and speed in particular) and they are real weaknesses Confidence seemed to be an issue until late in the season. Kicks long and well, big frame and provides a contest..... honest competitor. Expect he would be looking for an opportunity to move on in trade window, or at least a sign from Neeld/ Craig that it there is something to look forward to
  16. Dont agree until you lay out your plan to move forward..... ..... cut a third of the list and recruit from second tier competitions for success..... ...... that is when I realised you were using the old writers technique of describing a complete farce to draw others out...... Please confirm this is the case [Deleted]
  17. and now this.....huge-bet-on-suns-defender-to-kick-first-goal... Sheer genius ......odds come in from 101 to 21 on a defender to kick the first goal and the AFL's highly sophisticated team of integrity professionals think there could be something in it? FMD Out of control...... Let's see what happens now that there is actually a plunge that has paid out. AFL betting policies are so far in the hole, the punt and quoting odds is so deeply bound into every minute of every game that we will move from having a sport run by TV to one run by the betting agencies. Time to end a career here somewhere.... see if the message gets through. And start to back this great game away from the brink.
  18. One of our best. Absolutely critical component for our future success. 2011 2nd in Tackles 1st in Inside 50 3rd in Goals 3rd in Disposals 120 game player hitting his peak having played most of his career in a side that is "rebuilding" I'm not sure what he did to you Belzebub...run over your cat? Might be time to let it go and be happy that we've re-signed a key part of our future success
  19. Fortunately there was someone at the club with more sense than this! And it was resolved before the season closed.....
  20. Punt.... yes Do it in an organised manner....yes Frame a market on every freaking thing every minute of every game .....and ram the odds out ...... time for a change Deestroy All sums it up for me......when I want a punt.... I know where I need to go to check the market and place the bet.... leave the information there. ....and if the AFL want to tidy up the problems with those directly involved going the punt, don't worry aboutt the soft soap approach of "we work with the betting companies to help police it".....just arc up the punishment to the point where even the most clueless won't go there...after a spate of issues, just ban the next bloke betting on games for life ..... a la Pete Rose in Major League Baseball (see here Pete Rose)
  21. Critical signing for our immediate future and success. Showing plenty and will only look better when we have a modicum of depth/ talent around him
  22. Can't share your confidence in the infallibility of WorkCover KIL.....
  23. Well as unbelievable as it is that there could possibly be another gambling scandal, maybe it's time for the AFL to have a good look at how it is managing the punter/ football interface. I'm no wowser, I like a beer and a punt but I reckon sport betting is now far too pervasive. Why? My 9 yo now quotes me the odds for games and he and his mates focus on the impact on the odds of the team lists and in game injuries. They don't separate the Punt from the game. have a look at the sponsors/ prevalence of gambling options. Can the AFL really act surprised if they have another internal betting issue? I expect Vlad and his crew will trot out the same bulldust.... we need to take all this money from bookies because it helps us identify / manage player punting.
