  1. ok Mate--just give me your matchups for Saturday. Who plays on the N M talls?
  2. Well Steven Strtch, who is going to play on Thomson, Hale, McIntosh, with Edwards and Petrie also available to take a mark on the forward line? Why SHOULD Holland have played ghis last game--thrashed Rocca last year, and against Footscray [Round 19? ] went forward and was leading goal kicker. If he's our best tall defender just play him! Fancy Bell on Hale?
  3. my golly--seeing them oon Sunday would convince me that there's much m more than 6cm difference. Incidentally, do Melbourne cheat on player heights? If Meesen is more than 200cm I'm Jane Fonda!
  4. He played alright on Sunday despite a few mistakes. The ABC commentators felt that the work around the ground of Johntson/White was a big factor in making Melbourne competetive.
  5. I'm sick of seeing giant forwards outmark much smaller Demon defenders as Hawkins did to Carroll--12 cm smaller? on Sunday.I'm also irritated when on 4-5 occasions Geelong bombed the ball into the square, no-one marked it, but they still scored goals. There is ineptitude if that happens--the ball should be put through for a point. In these circumstances why not play our best tall defender - clearly Ben Holland (remember last year's game v Rocca). I know he can be found out if the opponents go small on the forward line, but we have 4 interchange players--if that happens, get him off [or send him to the forward line where he tends to kick goals] I don't care if he's in his last season--he's a capable player. He KNOWS the game. Can make decisions which I'm afraid poor old Daniel Bell can't. But in any event the availability of Holland to mark the opposition tall, would mean that chaps like Carroll, Wheatley and Bell [or Frawley]could play on sensible matchups. Sure, he looks awkward, but if he's fit I'd love to see him out there against North who at various times will have Thomson Hale or Mc Intosh on the forward line. Fancy Carroll on Hale or Mc Intosh?Or Bell on Thomson?
  6. "the better teams like Geelong/ My God, it's amazing how things can change. What's Melbourne's record v Geelong like in the past 5 years. We've given them some thrashings. I'm inclined to agree that you don't throw out the baby with the bath water. If a player can kick lke Green why require him to handball? And one other point. Does one have to use the same tactics every week? Whatever the conditions? It was slippery last week especially in the first half. I would have thought that some long kicking out of defence was called for. It may be different when dry. Nevertheless Jake Niall's article is excellent
  7. you are a disgrace! How pathetic can a supporter be? Bruce is badly injured 6 weeks ago, has about half a practice match and then plays round 1. This last week he plays on Brad Johnson who kicked 3 goals whilst Footscray slaughtered Melb. And you want Bruce out of the club? What aconstructive little effort this is!
  8. this is the best contribution I've seen. I'm getting angry about the criticism of Daniher. During the 2006 Finals I calculated that we had the 2nd youngest team playing in the finals.[W.C were younger--the premiers]We weree playing 6-7 players recruited in 2005 or 2006. I dispute that we have a bad list and believe the effect of the 2007 injuries is still being felt. But we will fall apart completely unless we, the supporter base, hold firm in our support
  9. I'm concerned about the constant criticism of Nathan Brown who, I suspect ,would have won votes on Sunday. It's true that he's made mistakes in past matches, but so has Bell who made a couple of shockers on Sunday, eg the last goal of the ist quarter when he left his opponent, was the 3rd Demon to fly in a pack, completely missed the ball and watched his opponent waltz `into goal. If you watch a few games on TV you'll be aware how often the commentators comment on his errors. But he's young and trying hard. So is Brown and I'm amazed that a bloke who gets the ball under tough circumstances so often, gets criticised so often on this site
