So I don't care how well Blease (or any player) sprints 300m as long as they're great at 100m, 50m, 20m multiple repeat sprints containing dodging, weaving, bending over, jumping up, kicking, in fact going through all the motions you would during games ... and if Blease can repeat it far more often than in past years, I hope he'd have a chance:- )
I'd rather be just practises getting the ball over and over to be honest!

Improvers:
Trengove
Spencer
Michie or Tyson
Sliders
Jamar
M Jones
Strauss

Don't forget Fitz has an elite, repeat sprint ability for his height.
He can make 60 metre leads back and forth from forward to the wings all game. That in itself is a huge tactical weapon.
Admittedly, Dawes isn't too bad in that area either - but if Fitz develops further, he will get games onhis tactical advantage alone.
-
Dom Tyson - integral to our future now, and with his run of injuries whilst at GWS, I actually Havnt seen very much of him yet.
Jesse Hogan - because, Jesse Hogan!
JKH - just pips Toumpas and Trengove (as they could effectively be new mids for us if they improve this season). JKH is showing some good early signs and I'm tipping to get some surprise early games. We are desperate for some speed and pressure in the forward half more than it has been noted, IMO.

I agree - hence my use of the term 'incidentally'.This doesn't count for much...if he decides to leave Freo it will be for money, and he will go to whoever offers him the most.
I reckon that if we lose Frawley it will set us back a few years...full backs of his calibre don't grow on trees; I don't remember the last one the Dees had before him. Resigning him is a MUST.
I believe we've had a crack at him previously actually, and he's cemented in the best midfield in the comp so, yes, it would take a fair lump of moolah to prize him away I reckon.
Agree on Frawley as well - god I hope he doesn't walk.
-
Murphy or Boak would be nice.
My favourite is Mundy though - would be a perfect fit for our midfield, and he was a Dees supporter incidentally as well.

Great report, I feel like I was there.
This post shows one of the real benefits of Demonland.
It was quoted from the Demons board on bigfooty.

Uh.. have I come to the right forum??

Does it seem like grimes is on a more intensive running program to build his engine for more time in the midfield or some sort of rehab?
It looked like they were nursing him a little to be honest - just keeping him out of the contact stuff and doing straight line running for a little longer.
He looked very fit and strong and Im not aware of anything specifically holding him back from the rest of the group.
He looked slightly leaner as well.

Pretty disappointed we didnt get Hannath to be honest.

Moves like a young Matthew Pavlich....Anyone else notice that from the highlights package??
Absolutely.
Also reminds me a lot of Paul Salmon.

Big enough smile for you?..

I may be wrong but I think I read somewhere that he was either injured or recovering from illness that ruled him out.
Yep. Had a fairly serious virus and although he was back and playing in the month prior to selection for the carnival, it took him quite a while to fully recover and get back to his best so he didn't get the call up.
Still won the colts B&F though so I don't understand him not getting a run.

It's been alluded to in a few articles that he has bigger problems than the odd smoke and beer.
-
Australian actually.
True - Greek background.
-
Daicos was Macedonian.
There are 1/3 the number of Croatians in Australia, yet they produce players like; Pavlich, Sumich, Allen Jakovich, Glen Jakovich, Didak, Gasper, Scott Watters, Starcevich, Mathew Richardson, Sam Kekovich, Tony Modra.
180,000 Greeks immigrated to Australia, after breeding, now there is around 300,000, for very little return in regards to decent footballers. I wonder if it is something about their temperament.
Put it this way, if we were to draft Jimmy 'the Greek' Toumpas, he better develop to be the best Greek footballer that has ever played AFL.
Dont know what your problem with Greeks is - but Peter Daicos was Greek mate.
-
Yes, but soccer is the national game in Croatia and italy, yet if you look at the numbers, there are many champion croatian and Italian footballers, yet it is hard to name a champion Greek footballer.
Just saying.
Italy has a great record for good AFL players - but the Greeks have produced the same number of decent players as Croatia, and many other countries.
Further to others previously mentioned; Malaxos, Demetriou, Francou, Daicos, Zaharakis.. etc etc

If Toumbas somehow falls through to us then #3 Viney 4# Toumpas is a must.
If not, i take #3 Viney 4# Wines as a brutal duo.
Firstly, I would be shocked if someone bids Viney for 1 or 2 as that will throw 2 of Whitfield, Grundy and Toumpas our way.
Secondly, Wines would be great for some quality around the ball, but I cant imagine him going before any of the 3 above - so taking Toumpas, Viney AND Wines may be a little too much of a similar thing.
I think Toumpas will almost certainly become a Demon at the end of the year, but I doubt we'll take Wines as well.
-
I hope we dont use pick 3 on Viney.
We will get a very handy footballer at pick 3 no matter what - and any club willing to take the risk of drafting Jack Viney with pick 1 or 2 is more than firting with danger - he will always want to be traded back to Melbourne from day 1.
-
Id be happy for us to take him on after the storm dies down.
-
Clark, Jamar, Trengove, Viney, Frawley.
-
We knew this situation was unique when we drafted him.
Obviously our support is not unconditional - but no concerns from me if we support him through the occasional period where he needs to head back.
-
Jeez hes still young.
Im more concerned about the progress of Blease, Strauss, Gysberts and Tapscott at this point.
Watts should start being judged as a 23-25 year old imo.

Jack Trengove still reminds me a bit of Jimmy Bartell in playing style - and Jimmy was never 'quick'.
I still think he can become a good quality, inside, strong bodied mid who is composed, uses the ball well, defends well and can creep forward for the odd goal.
Inside/strong bodied mids rarely become very good until they're 24 or 25 so I'm not too worried about Jack myself.
