  1. How does 100 x 100 work? How long do you rest between sprints?

They are certainly sprints - they are usually timed so you need to keep at a certain rate as you go along.

Usually you would do them in blocks of 5, whilst jogging slowly back to the start. So you don't actually stop moving until you've run 1km (50% of which is sprinted). Then you get around 2 minutes to stop and recouperate before doing another block of 5.

It's a very tough running session for any player - particularly fast players who have high sprint speeds and lower endurance.

  2. As much as I admire Angus' dedication and commitment in running 100 100's I'm not sure why he is singled out as being someone special when I would expect the whole list not in rehab to be putting in the same work. What I am impressed with now is that it appears that we have players that are far more focused on being the best that they can possibly be. This is a big change from the Bailey years. I give a small thanks to Mark Neeld in starting to change that mind shift.

It's a good sign that the young fella has done some additional running on Christmas Day - but I think more the point, is that he did 100 x 100.

Not sure if you've ever tried it - but that is one heck of a session for an 18 year old on Christmas Day.

Expecting the whole list to do that is just ridiculous. There probably isn't another player in the AFL that did 100 x 100m sprints on Xmas day.

  3. Could also be because he is 22 ?

Oscar Mc and Billy Stretch are hardly what you called developed.

Our problem has not been that the players drafted were stick insects. They were stick insects who couldn't get a kick. ( we drafted some big bodied footballers and they couldn't get a kick either)

If you can't see the big bodied midfielders theme in this trade period and draft you must be blind. Billy Stretch won't be huge but he won't be Cale Morton thin. Oscar McDonald will be a big body when he's his brothers age - bookmark it.

Paul Roos has said many times, that his ideal is a big bodied midfield - in the same vein as Fremantle.

  4. Quite revealing about why we have been so poor in the last few years.

Our hopeless drafting from 2001 to 2004 means that only Jamar and Dunn are players drafted then that still remain.

Our disastrous efforts from 2007 to 2011 means that we have only 11 players aged 22-26 that we drafted - that is a crucial 5 year age range for AFL clubs. The most promising 5 players of those 11 are McDonald, Jetta, Watts, Howe, and Grimes. Another 6 of that 11 may not be on the list for much longer: Trengove, Fitz, Gawn, McKenzie, Spencer, and Bail.

Prime years of a football career and we don't have many and we don't have much quality.

Gawn will be on the list for a while yet - but your point still stands.

More damning, is the number of high drafts picks in that period that aren't at the club anymore. Unprecedented.

  5. I'd be surprised if we didn't throw our top draft picks at a trade next year (GWS should be vulnerable), plus a huge contract at a free agent.

That should balance it up a little.

At least our youth is looking a little more talented this time around (not assuming anything..).
