  1. Easy way to describe it is this;

If Geelong wanted to use it this year, they get the pick straight after their first pick (which is pick 23), meaning that compo pick is worth pick 24. So, the traded it, for pick 15 in this years draft.

That means, if the Gold Coast want to use it this year, it is worth pick 24, but let's say they use it in 2013 (when the draft is of the standard format - Pick 1 for last, pick 2 for 2nd last, etc), if Geelong were to finish 10th, the compo pick that the Gold Coast picked up this year would be straight after Geelong's first pick, which would be pick 8, meaning the Gold Coast would get pick 9 for their compo pick.

It's very smart investing by the Gold Coast. They have 3 of those situations where they traded back a compo pick.

The pick retains the value it was this year, doesn't matter where Geelong finish in the next 3 years, it just goes lower down the order because there are no priority picks. So in 2013 it would be equivalent to pick ~#9-11 depending on how the new teams slot into draft order etc. (it would have been #9 this year without GC and priorities), I don't know if the AFL has made decisions on where exactly it will be in 2013.

  2. Good point re FD

So, which clubs target the DHs most?

Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond or Essendon or? - My money would be on Carlton, narrowly

I saw the Carlton boys out at eve the Thursday after they lost their final and they were all very well behaved, Fev was most of the problem at that club IMO.

  3. Be curious to hear what others think re many of his stuff ups ... Ability or confidence?

Confidence and injuries imo, after 2009 he was probably one of the top 5 rated from the 2007 draft, I think people are forgetting how good he was for a skinny 19 y.o in 2009. He has definitely been disappointing this season but perhaps we were expecting a little too much from him because he was so highly rated. He isn't your standard midfielder because of his body shape it will take him longer than most to grow into his role. Think Brendan Goddard who was considered a waste of a no.1 pick for many years, his fourth season was his breakthrough season where he started to silence his critics iirc.

  4. Needs ~100 votes by my calculations, if you have google chrome; ctrl+shift+n, paste link, vote, close window, ctrl+shift+n, etc.

edit: hmm weird, dunno how chrome incognito works because I can't vote anymore. got him from 34% to 42% in 5 mins though

  5. As much I love Jordie, he aint going to win it unless:

    1. MFC wins

    2. Jordie has a blinder and actually kicks 3 to 4 goals. A TV highlight speccy would help.

    3. And no other eligible player plays the game of their lives.

He would of got it the last 2 weeks if other players didn't play very big games (Garlett 6 and he has had a good year), he's been in the top 3 the last 3 weeks including this one. Early word has Trengove getting the nod this week.

  6. I was half expecting Jamar to go it alone on Leuenberger and Clark, neither of whom are doing that well.

Rivers will go ok... but I would have thought Warnock would be better one-on-one. Fev has a nasty habit of kicking bags on us.

Leunberger is in pretty good form imo, perhaps career best. Clark is in bad form but he is still AA from last year. They have one of the better ruck combos going around and I think Jamar would struggle vs both of them solo.

  7. Would suggest that Cale came out even at best - he had 10 disposals 4 marks to Goodes 17 disposals 9 marks. Goodes has not been in the best form this year. In any case, Cale should be playing on him to get this exposure.

Goodes has played more often as a permanent forward this year - if this eventuates I would suggest Chip will play him all day.

except the last two games he's played predominately as a midfielder

  8. Really, really likes Macdonald and McKenzie games, went really hard, lots of contested footy. Moloney was most disappointing for me, even though he got injured, as a senior player he should of been one of the players standing up when we were getting killed. Bate was poor, could almost be dropped but probably wont be. Rivers starting to improve a little, Garland still a little untidy, Batram played one of his worst games. Frawley, Scully and Watts are improving every game and will be guns. I thought Bruce's form had turned, was starting to get his game right again after last week, but was back to his sloppy self this week :( Davey and Sylvia were both very good, Bennell and Jurrah showed glimpses and did what needed to be done. Morton was disappointing, but Bail was solid imo. Can't believe PJ's game, wd sir, Jamar was a bit down on usual but didn't lost to the galloping lamppost.

  9. Poor display. Should really be down by 10 goals +. Freo allll over us.

But... it's far too easy to bag and slag every Melbourne player under the sun with a performance like this. They will ALL learn from this experience big time (including Beamer!!). Last week all Dees players were like GOds and they were all top notch!

    For mine:

    - I'm not a fan of Watts in the back half.

    - Frawley continues to hold his own and if only we had 6 Frawley's in that backline we'd be ok!!

    - Jones is far too careless with his tackling and pressure.

    - Sandilands is owning us!

    - I give up.

he's actually running out of the backline and trying to take the game on rather than sitting with the ball for 10secs then kicking to a contest/out of bounds like bruce, garland, rivers, etc.

  10. I noticed a great set play between Col and Beamer, think it was in the 2nd quarter. They said a few words to each other, then at the bounce Sylvia went 3rd up and knocked it straight into Beamers hands as he ran full speed past....very slick work

ya this was very nice, resulted in a goal (or shot for goal) iirc

  11. A few days ago? Maybe a few weeks ago, he's been good to very good the past few games. Still not 100% convinced he'll be in our best 22 for a premiership tilt, however on recent form he will definitely be resigned.

  12. I thought Dunn was good today. Took some solid marks and has real strength. A bit of mongrel about him, too, which is great. I like seeing Melbourne players giving it back to their opponents.

yeah dunn was solid, fisher didn't have much influence, he kicked 2 (should of been 3, wtf at that) and had some solid possessions.
