You can't reward poor performances with senior games, even when you rate someone as a long-term prospect and want to get experience into them. Every player needs to know that if they do the right things they'll be rewarded, and, conversely, that nobodies untouchable and if they don't work to keep their spot, then they'll lose it.
Dunn was dropped, took it on the chin, worked his arse off in the VFL and by all reports played a brilliant game on the weekend. Watts has done nothing in his last two outings. If Watts stays in and Dunn stays out, what kind of message does that send? Where's the motivation for our less fancied players to work hard to improve themselves and prove everybody wrong if we don't even give them the opportunity? Where's the motivation for our more fancied players to be the best they can be, if they'll get games regardless?
Totally agree, what kind of morale are we building for blokes in casey when underforming demons players are not held accountable, dropping him should be seen as part of his learning. He should only be selected again when he has a couple of standout games, not just the one.
-
whats going on with warnock? dropped because of carlton's pace in the forward line? would that thought rivers would have been the first to get chopped.
-
I still remember this clown kelly on a friday night at the G it might have been 2006, (it was the day in the wet when we won when davey kicked the goal from the boundary) when he blantly wanted to avoid body contact right near the players interchange we won the ball as a result the effort was one of the softest I have seen. He would be an ordinary player at any other side.
-
will be very intresting to see how he goes this week, I would imagine he will get taylor who is a very good player, if he holds his own it will be wondeful for his confidence.
-
spencer in, bad call
-
This is a crunch game, we have a very hard next few weeks, we can't afford to lose this game, that is why I am not happy with giving wona what appears to be a charity game, he does not deserve selection and I am totally against giving someone a game because it is in Darwin and is indegineous round. As Gotch said, Wona's second half was quiet which attests to someone who is not match fit at the moment, Wona needs to earn his selection.
-
with bate and petterd out our forward line looks very thin.
-
never again should he be on the footy show or any footy show for that matter. Media street does not sit well with Colin.

can anyone please confirm how jack watts did in his 20m sprints at draft camp? he just did not appear to have a second gear in terms of speed but I do recall him being one of the quickest at draft camp. Maybe the extra size has slowed him or its just maybe a case of asthetically looking not that fast when he actually is.
-
with all the scuttlebutt about wattsy I am surprised that there is not a rumour that he was with garry ablett at the logies.
I, amongst others, sponsor the kid, unless he is full of BS he is genuine in his desire to make the grade and is genuinely frustrated that he has had a few setbacks with injury. He is a good kid and will make it in the AFL.
-
they will come out fired up, we should tread wearily if we are up at 1/4 time we should run over them but I anticipate they will start well.
-
I get so annoyed with Bailey when the other team gets a bit of a run on, i.e three goals he immediatly puts someone loose in the backline, it is akin to raising the white flag. When we don't have any big targets up forward I would have thought the worse situation would be to have 5 on 6. Further the slow ball movement by overuse of handpasses means by the time we actually get it forward they have flooded. And putting grimes as a tagger on hodge for a bit was just plain stupid, let him be damaging. After saturday I am keen to get rid of bailey, I hope I am proven wrong.
-
maybe now he has sorted out the financials maybe he can concentrate on telling BP to get another key forward to the club.
-
he is a bit too loose down back for my liking and his decision making is poor at times, but if he can produce what he did against west coast last year on a more consistent basis then we have a player. At this stage am getting much more excited about trengove.
-
someone is having a lend of us, because at a function last week watts said that it was his quad that was the problem and he would only be 1-2 weeks away.
-
my recollection of interview
Asked DB what he thought of the first two games
first game was not how we play the game
second game was playing more attacking footy
started to move the ball more
need to get more games into the young ones, once
we get 40 to 60 games into the players
then we will see the recruiting efforts pay off
expects to see the recruits of three years ago
make an impact on the game
like jack grimes, maric, cheney
big loss in mortan as he is one
of those players to show improvement
and have an impact this year wont
play until round 7 to 8
sam blease coming on nicely chance
to play in second half of season
james strauss DB impressed with his
two games to date attacking back player
callers
asked
kick ins are a worry dont get them in
quickly
response
i know what you mean working on it
but also concentrating on slower set
shots
called them structured kick ins
caller
daniel bell
slow start
challenged him at quarter time showed
improvements after that
caller
start year no key forwards
response
watts as a moving mobile forward
anchor bigger forward in
martin and jamar
asked about injured players
aussie chance to play this week
if not definitely nab 4
bruce nab 4
bates nab 4
final words from DB
we need to give the faithful a reason
to come and see us play
expects membership to be around 30,000 this year
Spot on. I find it disturbing that we may be relying on Jamar and Martin up forward. Jamar should be in the ruck and martin in my opinion is not capable. I really wish we drafted some key tall forwards in the last couple of years so we would have some depth in this area. Looks like Garland will be playing back.
-
This topic has probarly been done before but I would like to rehash it, After hearing him speak last week he has leadership written all over him, loves the club and a player who looks like he will have a fantastic career, think he would be a great choice for the next captain. Might be too much of a burden but I think he could handle it.
-
jetta's reason might be the fact that he was rubbish. do not think he would be close to making our best 22 if wona and maric are playing well.
-
after hearing him speak last night I have no doubt our CHF will be jack, he seems really annoyed with last year and his injuries this year and he is very very keen to get out there and show his stuff.
According to Garland who was also at the night he has been training with the backs but he said he would be happy to play anywhere. The way that he was talking I think he will be down back.
-
what is our game style? I still don't know all I can see if overuse of the football. I was surprised to see we had players behind the ball at the start of the game, makes it very diffucult to put scores on the board and be direct with the football.
-
The suggestion was only for this year and would only be for a couple of games. You are right we don't pick number 1's to be taggers. But we should ensure that they obtain the best development and expirence espically in their first year and this, in my opinion, could form part of his development.
-
This would only be for his first year but here are some points
- He has the engine to go with the best in the AFL.
- Has the capacity to find his own ball in tight situations
- Possess the commitment and competiveness to ensure he does a good job
- Would be a great learning experience in discovering what it takes to be the best in
the AFL
- If Dunn is going to take permenant position on the forward line we don't really have a
stopper apart from junior mac

reiwoldt v chip
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
In the 2006 draft we had a choice out of chip (pick 12) or jack reiwoldt (pick 13), Even considering jack's 10 goals and that we need a key forward I would still take chip any day of the week, the guy is an out and out star.
