  1. For gods sake Brad run through someone! Moloney use those tree trunk arms of yours and grab Sam mitchell and Jordan Lewis by their throats and suck some energy out of them! Chip Frawley you are a man, in a mans body now, make sure Roughead remembers he played a game of footy on the weekend! Russian, when and if you kick a goal, get a tap out or come within coowee of the ball make sure you let the nearest backman / midfielder know you are there with a nice introduction to your 100+kg body. In short Senior players, show SHOW SOME PASSION!! Protect and show our young players that it is not ok to go down without a whimper. Play the ball by all means but make sure the opposition have you in mind when it comes their turn to get it. If we are to endure more losses, show us that you want to be out there and playing for oneanother and the jumper. And please! please! dont dish out what you did last Saturday ever again.
  2. My feelings exactly. I remember watching the limited games this boy played at his time at MFC and being impressed with his smarts and application each time. Yes he was a little slow in patches, but no more than any other AFL new commer trying to adapt to the feverish pace of todays game. Showed alot more desperation and intent than alot of other players out there. It makes me wonder what attributes the football department place a priority on when determining if or not a player can cut the mustard at this level. Valenti's skills seemed adequate, height an issue, pace needed work, but his heart and application would have him almost top of the class. dissappointing result in all. Teams need players of his ilk to form a workmanlike fabric amonst the group. I would take shane any day above some unproven 17 to 18yo going above 20 to 30 in such a thin draft. Hope your career gets a fair rebirth somewhere else shane. Best of Luck.
  3. The bump is dead!! It will be coached out of all players from this point forward as the risks associated with getting it wrong are far too great for it to be worth doing. I dont like seeing guys get knocked out but this is a contact game and there are far greater ways of a serious injury occuring in our sport than what buddy did. What happened to ben cousins is an unfortunate result of what happens in a contact sport. Unfortunately our game is becoming increasingly sterilised and structured in a manner that will see it unrecognisable from what makes it soo great. I know the rules must be obeyed and I dont even blame the match review panel for citing him. What is a joke however is that a tribunal and appeal board have no ability to bring common sense to the table and call it what it was, unavoidable high contact in a contact sport. Free kick - Yes. 50m penalty - maybe. Report and suspension for 2 weeks - laughable!
  4. I have been thinking about this since the start of the season and after alot of thought I am convinced to TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! I love the guy but my supercoach team needs someone who can at least average over 100. He is averaging 85 and my midfield needs more. Only problem is I have lost nearly 60G on him to date and I aint getting that back. Hes Gooooonnnnnneeeeee!!!!!! Seriously though. What makes people think a guy of Brocks ability, ( and yes he is slow, so what! ) is compensated by a second round draft pick, in a less than spectacular field of unproven youngsters. Cmon people, he may not be in his best form to date but like it was said above, he will add even more value to our team when he is surrounded by a bit of quality. Supercoach trade - YES, Real Life trade - BIG NO!
  5. Really good day. Big pat on the back to the players. My 7yo boy got his first lot of player signatures over his jumper and on every occasion the players would make a point of asking how he was enjoying the day and what rides he had been on, with a smile on their face. Impressed me and no doubt set the foundations for my boy supporting this great club for the rest of his life. Well done fellas!
  6. Thanks George. Great Photos. You have inspired me to get down to watch training one day soon. Keep up the good work.
  7. The appointment of Macca is a little deflating to the winds of change sweeping through the MFC at the moment. Nobody in their right mind would ever question JMacs credentials to lead this great club, in fact in many respects he is exactly what you would want in your skipper, hard, determined, dependable and lets his actions do the talking. However at the risk of contradicting myself, he is a player whos opportunity to lead as captain has passed. Not saying he cant do the job well for the next couple of years and have us thinking of what could of been, but it is time for fresh blood. Surely Baily needs to step in to the team election of a skipper and tell the group that players such as Macca, Bruce, Robbo and maybe even Greeny are not eligible for selection due to age. That way the group will have to look to a younger player to step up and assume the responsibility of leadership. Same should apply to the leadership group. We have invested in youth to take us forward so they should lead us there. For what its worth, if Brock isnt thought of as a leader in the group, which very well might be the case, then so be it. We may find a leadership gem amongst the rest of the crop.
  8. So what makes you think we are getting elite midfielders at 80+ with the likes of Jordie McKenzie and Rhys Healey. What can they bring to the table as far as contributing to a premiership midfield. If its dominant midfields you want then take your chances at the top end of the national draft and leave the speculative picks in the rookie draft to players who no one was prepared to take a chance on but yet offers that sparkle of something different. e.g. Sibosado.
  9. On the mark BBP. As much as it pains to say there will be more hurting next year and in the long run it will be of great benefit to the club. We need more priority picks next year as our list is exciting and promising but not yet complete. Only more top picks will be sufficient to add to the list and for this to happen we must endure more of 08 and 07 like seasons. This is a rebuilding phase that we dont want to revisit anytime soon so one more year of anguish will help ensure our future prosperity. However I too feel your enthusiasm with the current crop. The pain of losing week after week will be offset by being able to watch the young list develop and feel the excitement watching young stars in the making. I can't wait to see Grimes in 09, watch Morton take another step and the likes of Martin gain more on field confidence and experience. Add to this the exciting prospect of Mr Watts taking the field at some point towards the end of the year and confirming the hype of Jurrahs talent. The list goes on. The enthusiam shown by our young daring list on the ground will only be matched by the enthusiam and excitement of MFC supporters watching and dreaming from the sidelines. Go D boys.
  10. Exactly where I am coming from Hoopla. I have nothing against Jordie McKenzie but it is fairly obvious where our major deficiencies lie. What KPP do we have at the moment that can take a game by the throat and win it off his own boot, Bate? Miller? Johnson? Sure we have picked up Watts and Jurrah but excuse me for not wanting to throw all my eggs in one basket and base all our rookie selections on these two guys being able to cut the mustard. Why go for more midfielders when we already have plenty of young mids on our primary list who we need to develop over the next few years. Yes my experience of Sibosado is his highlights clip off youtube, but surely all you educated toffs who have taken the time to respond to this uneducated topic can see the basis of the argument, that surely it is more value to our clubs current predicament, to be investing speculative rookie selections on KPP's who show some promise. If Sibosado is in reality no good, then as Hoopla said, invest in another promising tall forward who may develop into something.
  11. No disrespect to Jordie McKenzie and the Melbourne recruiting staff, but I am really disappointed with this pick. It reaks of a SAFE selection for the recruiting staff by taking a 180 something, elite endurance midfield type over a KPP X factor type of the likes of Sibasado. If Jordie McKenzie never plays a game for Melbourne, or any other AFL side for that matter, through his career, there will be no cries of foul over his 2008 rookie selection. No recruiting staff will lose their job over selecting him. No article will be written on the potential lost by his delisting. Instead he will be seen as a emergency depth player who has the potential to fill a void should injuries hit hard. Now some of you may say that this is the exact purpose of the rookie draft, to provide depth to the list should the list be desimated with injuries. To some extent I aggree, but when I watch footage of Casey Sibasado running around the park and note the lack of KPP firepower currently in our forward line, something in me clicks. "This guy would be a good rookie selection". Even with the potential of Watts and now Jurrah on our list, adding an excitement machine such as Sibosado to our rookie list is surely a good idea. I know many of you feel the same way about this kid as I do, which probably means you feel a similar frustration. I suppose it simply comes down to putting faith in our recruiting staff and the direction Dean has us heading. Lets just hope that in 3 to 4 years time there isnt a superstar kid running around for Freo by the name of Sibosado and Jordie McKenzie is nowhere to be seen.
  12. For the life of me I cannot understand the concept of co-captaincy. I feel it cheapens the position of club captain and announces to other teams that we do not have enough confidence in any one man to lead our side. Surely one individual is available on every club list who is fit to fly the clubs flag, without resorting to 2 or 3 co-captains. Even with a single captain he will enjoy the support of a core group of leaders or senior players, so why have multiple captains. If we head down this path again next year it will be a huge mistake. For mine, Brock is the stand alone choice. I like greeny and his courageous, 'captain like' actions on the field but to me he represents a past era at melbourne for which we are no longer in. Greeny will be a huge asset to our side in what ever role he plays but it should not be as captain. Brock is the future and falls within the age bracket of players we are investing our future in. He has talent, leadership and most of all mongrel. Come on Dean, appoint this man captain and let him lead our boys to greatness.
  13. Becoming tough is a must for our now very young list, but not in the same way you suggest frank. I want to see our young list led by a hard, young captain in Brock, with a young support group of uncompromising leaders ( perhaps 3 of Jones, Rivers, Miller, Moloney, Johnson ). I want to see them accept nothing more than hard, uncompromising, tough, body sacrificing football from everyone in the 22, from the oldest to the youngest recruit. Should a contest be shirked or an unacceptable skill error occur by a youngster, brock or any senior player will quickly remind them with a firm slap on the hind quarters that "This is the MFC young fella and we dont do that around here" followed by brock running off and showing said youngster how it is done with some bone shattering act of bravery. Thats the TOUGH MFC I want.
