  1. Emotions are funny things... I LOVE watching the Dees. I HATE Jack Watts threads. I'm intrigued by Jack Watts threads. It's like the horrible scene where you can't look away. Yeah you read that right. I hate having to defend the clubs decision in picking Watts but I do it. The kid shows potential where some motions/possessions/marks are amazing. That's nice to see. It's the basics that are missing. I'll continue to defend this guys skill, in the way that a saint will defend Kosis skill. We don't have a Riewoldt. We seem to have a lesser Johnstone. Bartram goes to sleep and dreams of the skill Watts has. Watts goes to sleep and dreams of whatever he wants. Bartram will hurt himself if it means getting the ball. I haven't seen that from Watts. You'll Today I had to watch the game at my local. My girlfriend joined me and questioned his desire. In one passage there was a play after a stoppage. Everyone wants the ball and fights and tackles. Even the commentators mention "Watts is staying away from the contests." They said it in the plural. I was cut. Yeah you're only young. Yeah you're smaller... but you're playing with the big boys now. Throw yourself in, TACKLE!!! FFS. Let the little guys work with the ball on the ground. You're the big man! Hit those in the contest. Wrap em up! You'll get thrown aside and you'll fail but you'll have tried! The rebuild is over and it's time to win games. Poor rake Morton circa 08-09 got thrown aside and continues to do so, but we love him. As it stands, from what i've seen of this high school footballer, he'd do well to man the [censored] up.
  2. Hey guys. I had to work on Saturday night so all I got of the game were brief radio updates. I see on afl.com that you can stream replays of the matches but for some reason Saturdays won't load for me. Has anyone successfully streamed a replay (of any game?) or am I just wasting my time here?
  3. You know it's funny. I bag Bruce's kicking as much as the next guy (let's face it, it's no great.) But I turned to my girlfriend who I was sitting with today, right on the fence at todays game as she uttered "he's a classy player sometimes isn't he?" Bruce had successfully started another d50 rebound and all I could do was nod. 2nd half Bruce stood up, and his kicking was still poor, ie: that shot for goal, but he tries as hard as anyone one the team (tick in the first box for me) and he reads the play as well as most in our team. Fact is he takes an opposition player out of teh game well. You clowns bagging him were the ones lauding him for his efforts on Tarrant 5 years ago come Queens b'day, now you cane him for doing a similar job on lesser light players. Enough of this garbage. I thought he was ok today. Not our best but earned selection next week, what more do you want?
  4. Dean Wallis for mine. I still can't forgive the hit on Green though. Other than that i'll go with Libba.
  5. Haven't seen a snippet of footage of this kid but I'm really enjoying what i'm reading here.
  6. True. Off topic, but true. Back to the article, Cale showed real class. I'm not bad mouthing the guy when I say I didn't see that level of maturity in him. Glad it's there because I think he'll be a gun. That said, I also thought Watts was the one for CHF.
  7. I don't wanna perpetuate rumour however I've heard from a source "reasonably" close that 1&2 are locked in as stated. I still don't know if I believe this bloke, (he spins some sh!t) but he seemed pretty confident and for a Carlton supporter, had a lot to say about Melbourne including the development of Blease and Strauss.
  8. All time? Jackovich or Stynes with Neitz closing the gap through rose coloured glasses. Current - Rivers. Only knows one way to play and that's with complete disregard for his own body. Future - Can't split Jurrah and Grimes. Grimes looks like a future star, Jurrah looks like something i've never seen before. For the first time I believe it when it' said "he could be anything."
  9. Not so silly. I'm from the south west, went to school with Rooke back when he was Jarad and I'm pretty sure he was only drafted after his father sent in near endless tapes of him to Geelong. No one back home gets picked up for our local TAC team. Their aren't many Jarad Rookes but there are some handy players that know one seems to care about.
  10. Could be going too far back but... Chopper Lovell. Turley was a broken player, were the medical tests as stringent then?
  11. Agreed. That just seems a little silly.
  12. Just knocked off work from a cafe on Keilor Rd. Brock came in and joined someone I assume was his mother for a quick coffee. Took the order, made the coffee and when he left I told his mum that I didn't wanna disturb him while he was on holiday but i'm hoping all goes well for him next year. She seemed a nice woman and was fairly open to obvious fans. Apparently contract negotiations were continuing today.
  13. Respect to those saying that our players wouldn't make the top teams this year I agree. But i'll respond because the only thing getting me to games is that I have the chance to see the future, albeit through supreme optimism. That in mind, looking at the hand we've been dealt, my top ten is... 1 - Watts 2 - Grimes 3 - Jurrah 4 - Davey 5 - Garland 6 - Mclean 7 - Warnock 8 - Frawley 9 - Rivers 10 - Sylvia This was in no particular order and the numbered list was simply so I didn't include too many. I think Aussie was stiff not to make it but here are some reasons for my thinking. I haven't see Blease or Strauss play. Watts was too big of an investment to lose. Grimes simply looks a gun. Jurrah seems like a player that will one day rip the competition a new one and I don't want to risk that happening against us. Davey has shown leadership that I didn't see coming. Garland simply looked like a future all Australian backman before being cut down. Mclean loves the club and is one of the few players on our team that I believe has the killer instinct 100% of the time. This guy will do anything tomake his team win and all teams need that. I believe this attitude was lacking in the Daniher era. Warnock is a full back. We need one. Frawley came on this year and his run out of the backline is fantastic for the team and great to watch. I think that Rivers at his best (fit) is a true general a la Hodge. He reads play as well or better than anyone on our list. This is the type of player that only aids development of a younger group learning the game at the highest level. As for Sylvia, i'm an admitted detractor, however the fact remains he may just be putting it all together and while he may attract the best trade option for us with recent form, our early commitment to him suggests his trade would only be false economy. Wow, that was long winded, but I enjoyed the exercise.
  14. I don't know if i'm repeating what's been said because it's late and I can't read a lot on a computer screen, but what I saw on Sunday was: - A team being forced to lose. - A young team (our future) trying desperately to drag us over the line. - A coach/selection committee/entire club staff looking to what could be, as opposed to what is. It depressed me. Don't rob those you've banked on of a win because you've decided someone better is around the corner. I think what most upset me was the fact that we had to go to such lengths to lose. Richmond are SO bad that the bottom side required them to drop their best players, bench the next best players and then play the role-players out of position to allow those pricks a win? It was humiliating for me as a spectator and it made me sad to see the Tigers supporters scream for the win. We're mostly unknown as a player group so perhaps they were unaware of the tactics on the day but for the most part, it was embarrassing for both parties. If we have to work so hard to lose perhaps we aren't the worst team, and therefore don't deserve any priorities in terms of draft selection.
  15. Actually, I'm kinda happy to see Yze Magic back. Sad huh? He livens things up and all of those Colin Sylvia predictions are looking less than foolish. I now want all of his predictions to reach fruition while still allowing Bruce a spot in the 1st 22. Having my cake and eating it too?
  16. Does anyone have any idea on a crown prediction for this game? I'm gonna go but not likely to sit anywhere ither than top level. Would tickets be a problem or could I just buy them at the gate without booking?
  17. I think it was difficult. I'm not 100% but I (and my mate) thought it was at Olympic Park. We scoured that place in the rain and cold looking for the function and we weren't alone. By sheer luck it was with a group of loyal supporters that we made the decision to gamble on Rod Laver arena. Started walking still unsure and the group only walked forward without trepidation after someone announced that the woman on the phone asking for directions was James McDonalds mother. We were so pumped to attend post match but if I have to rely on chance meetings with players parents or siblings i'm mildly put off. Better instructions, and maybe even a clear announcement pre-game at fed square would've been great.
  18. I take the train in from Essendon and usually stop at Transport before the game. It's good and there is a huge selection but if you're staying in the city I agree that the Cricketers Arms is fun. Good crowd generally.
  19. I was of the understanding that both the MCG and the MCC were eligible for heritage listing. With that, had the MFC joined that group in an official way again then the club would be heritage listed under that umbrella. I could be wrong but that was an impression I got from somewhere. It'd be amazing if we got the heritage listing, merger and relocation talks would cease just because it'd be illegal to do so.
  20. The interview was OK, but it didn't include anything new. I too think it's important to manage expectations. I can only think of one instance when a young full forward lined up against Collingwood on debut... B. Fevola, millennium match. He kicked 8. So I guess, with all the hype we want Jack to kick 15 or 20. I'll resign myself to believing he's only as good as other kids on debut and therefore expect around 8 goals, although i'll settle for 6 including the match winner after the siren. Wait... is that too much...?
  21. Working hospitality my weekends are generally taken up. This year I worked Sat and Sunday, all day and night. By about rd3 I'd convinced my boss to give me Sundays off (just so I could make it to the most games) and happily gave up a Friday night off. That in mind, i'm going Sunday. I don't care whose home game it is (although if someone can confirm that we can use our memberships to get in that'd be sweet) I've got to go. I'm loving watching the development in this team and nothing short of having to go to work will stop me watching more of it.
  22. Pretty sure it was last year that Garry Lyon interviewed Buddy on the footy show and asked what number he wore on his back as a kid. Buddy laughed and said he wore Garry's as he was a dees supporter as a kid. It made me so upset to hear that, thinking that both Judd and Franklin barracked for Melbourne as kids but only through envy. Weighing into the Judd debate I actually heard that he would've cost us Frawley in a trade to St. Kilda for their 1st round pick to then be tuned over to WCE. I love seeing Judd play and I'm sad he didn't choose us but at the end of the day he came at a price I wouldn't pay through the benefit of hindsight. He made the correct decision for himself. As I heard Brock McLean say (after the Adelaide game?) it's the first year he'd been there that they'd had a full time weights coach! To be honest I'd believe my services would be a plug in one of many leaks and what benefit would it be to the club or player?
