  1. Macdonald was de-listed. We definitely don't need him in our backline.

What kind of argument is that?

Just because a player is delisted at one club does not automatically make him a dud.

E.g. Tom Harley, delisted by Port after one game in two years, becomes Premiership Captain.

IMO, I doubt we can really judge Joel Mac against CJ objectively at all yet. How many people on here can honestly say they paid attention to his games at Brisbane?

At this stage, I would put Joel Mac slightly ahead of CJ for his endeavour. He is a classic defender, willing to put his head over the ball and get between his man and the ball. CJ was an outside player and largely a receiver less willing to get his own ball.

  2. I'll ask as well, what it is the point of trying to bring in 'Melbourne' people?

Is this to make us feel warm and fuzzy?

Plus the whole sentiment of this thread assumes the failure of Bailey to retain the job as you have not included him in the list.

So why would the club retain West and Wellman if they are appointing a new senior coach who would likely want to bring in his people?

Also, why would Paul Williams come back to the club after leaving less than 2 years ago (3 years by the timeline you have given) to further his coaching career with the Dogs?

  3. I cannot process that people are even giving a moment's passing thought to the possibility of a kid who hasn't played a game for us yet might one day leave the Club.

    Get a grip.

I agree, Are we that sensitive as a supporter base that we are worried about a young player leaving before he's even played a senior game?

I can't wait for the first bounce on the 27th! Maybe then we can get the focus back on the game.

  4. I hate to be a stickler here, but Andrew McLeod has never won a Brownlow!

2 Norm Smith Medals and a Champion player but no Brownlow.

I do enjoy the positivity of the thread though :)!

  5. Bailey has had one message from each interview, he sticking to the plan. This may seem stubborn to you but he is trying to build a winning team with a winning game plan and he isn't deviating from that path. It's gonna take a little patience, but from outside the club I feel like the club is in the right hands.

If you want sound bytes from a coach, then go follow the filth !!

  6. I am sure this site has been mentioned before, as many of the contributors post on here.

However, I felt like giving it a plug. For anyone who hasn't had a look:

    http://wiki.fcmelbourne.com.au

A bit bored of the talk of Sundays debacle, I felt like a positive MFC experience so I brought up the homepage and have spent the last 3 hours reading it!

Keep up the good work, and a shout out to Supermercado for all the excellent articles so far!

  7. Scott Thompson for me, Just for the fact that he had done pretty much nothing for his first 3 years due to injury and then when he was just starting to flourish in the second half of 2004 he gets homesick and the Crows come calling. I have heard family was involved in the decision, but it still hurts. In terms of losing a favourite, It's Brock Mclean for me at the minute, I might get over it as soon steps out for the Blooze, but for the first week after the news broke I felt betrayed as a Melbourne supporter!

  8. Taking emotion out of it can be difficult around here but I feel we have done as well as we could have out of the trade.

McLean wanted to go to Carlton and we get their first pick, we won't be able to measure for about 5 years who wins out of it! Pick 11 is not necessarily a poor pick, the last five years it has unfolded like this:

2004: Port Adel - Adam Thomson

    2005: WB - Shaun Higgins

    2006: WB - Andrejs Everitt

    2007: Sydney - Patrick Veszpremi

    2008: Collingwood - Steele Sidebottom

Make of that what you will !

  9. I was born into a family of Collingwood supporters and as such was expected to follow in that way. However, after the 1990 GF, as an 8 year old I made the bold decision that I didn't want to follow the filth anymore.

As it happened, my Mum's family was close to the Yeats family and as many would now, their youngest son Graeme was playing with the Demons at the time. As I had met him a couple of times as a young kid he seemed to have made an impression on me so I decided it was the Demons for me. By the end of 1991, I felt I had been vindicated in my decision as the Pies missed the finals and Jim Stynes had won the Brownlow!

From that moment on, I have never looked back and despite the ups and downs of the past 19 years for the MFC, I am a Demon for life. Much to the dismay of my uncles who still feel I betrayed the family :)!!

  10. My early 90's Melbourne jumper! It was one of the last ones made with a collar. I got it as a birthday present when I was 14 and have worn it to every Demons game I've been to since. It has a number 9 in the back and the white Tooheys sponsor logo on the front. It even has a big burn mark down the right seam where I left it drying next to a heater and yet I still can't bring myself to replace it :)!

  11. Even with Priority picks in the back of my mind, I didn't want McMahon to kick the goal. He didn't deserve the mark in the first place and I was completely devestated by it. But that's just bad luck and in the end the pro-tankers got what they wanted and we got to see the team becoming a much stronger unit!

  12. I'm wrapped Belly has another 12 months..........has been stiff with injury this year, and was in very good touch throughout the preseason........we haven't seen the best of Belly yet!!!!!!

I agree somewhat. He had a shocking run with injuries early, and despite a poor start on Sunday had started to come into the game when his shoulder went. There are still huge question marks hanging over him, but he is still only 24 and I hope for one that he can get back and prove he has something to give!

  13. A very good decision IMO. McDonald will be a skipper in the mould of Viney in 1998-99, a veteran mentor to help bring the younger players through.

I would like to see how the leadership group will look for this year though as Junior will need a strong group of leaders around him!
