  1. Just having a look over Mark Kleiman's twitter account?

    Was he Tom's former manager?

Anyway this is how his tweet went "cannot believe the crap i just heard on the footy show by Damian Barret & the deadline for Scully and GWS. Couldn't be further from the truth"

    Thoughts???

  2. this is so typical. Bulldogs lodge a complaint to the afl about gws breaching the player poaching regulations, Melbourne just roll over and do nothing about it. typical

    Lol what?

Are Melbourne aware that the GWS have made an offer to Tom? They may suspect it, but as long as Tom and his management continue to deny it there's nothing much they can do about it till the end of the year.

The Bulldogs are rightly making a complaint because there aware that Callan has been made an offer outside the rules. Young Callan has been transparent about the issue. Considering the circumstances it's actually quite admirable.

  3. Why does Scully owe Melbourne anything. If the shoe was on the other foot and Scully wasn't a good player, Melbourne would delist him and never see him again. Players don't owe their clubs anything.

When players aren't up to it Melbourne delist them, but if the players dont think the club is good for them and choose to move on then somehow its considered disloyal?

Oh thanks Freak for your insight into such a complicated issue

  4. Dunn's 'career best football' wasn't that good, and didn't translate into a career.

My point was that he played one good game, got selected, and then wasted a spot for the rest of the year that could have been given to a kid. I made that point because if we bring Petterd back it will be at the expense, most likely, of a kid like Nicholson, Strauss, Evans or Howe, and I'm not convinced that after one good game he deserves to kick out a kid.

I think that's a fair call. Blease is fit now, and not progressing as well at Casey as maybe he should be, but by virtue of his injuries, he is getting off lightly, with most still believing he's going to come good. Of course, he may well, and he's still young, but Strauss was in a very similar position, save for the severity of his injuries, and he was virtually delisted 4 weeks ago.

Just out of interest who would have taken Dunn's spot in the 2nd half last year?

He was in good form and deserved to be part of the team for mine. Won us the game up at the GABBA for one.

  5. With every day that passes, it becomes more certain Scully is gone. If he was staying he would indicate that he wished to remain at the MFC "subject to contract agreement" like so many other players. Sadly this is not the case.

The only evidence that supports Scully staying is his word and in my opinion Scully had no choice but to lie and say that there had been no contact from GWS. (Does anyone really believe “no contact”). If he had said the truth , he would be hounded all season, whatever the case this year would be far harder for him than it would be denying contact. Even Gary Lyon (I think) said earlier in the season that the AFL allowing players to sign early with the new clubs was “forcing” players to lie. In my opinion Tom Scully is whom he was directly referring to.

Honestly, I believe we are clutching at straws now. The evidence that Scully is going has become compelling. Scully will be offered 2 -3 fold what he could make at the Dees and quite frankly this is a massive reason why to leave. In any other job or any other sport we would not even be considering a possibility that he could stay.

I am sure the MFC know he is going and are desperately trying to organise a “Visy” style deal in a long shot that they can somehow maintain him. It will very difficult to organise a large enough “Visy” type deal for a 20yo who has not won a Brownlow, Premiership or Norm Smith (AKA Judd) and does not yet have the media presence that all this plus a model wife brings. Its media presence that makes “Visy” type deals commercial for the company.

As deeply disappointed as I am, I have no hard feelings towards Tom. Good luck to him and better luck to the MFC next time around.

Hmm I don't quite agree with your sentiments towards the conclusion of your post.

If Tom is being offered a contract around the $1mill mark, then I hate to think how much more Pendleubry, Selwood, Franklin and co were offered. Still yet all these young superstars are happy to take their $500,000 odd contract and repay the faith which the club instilled into them. At the end of the day it comes down to the individual, plenty of big names have knocked back huge contracts to join GC and GWS.

  6. Another interesting thing to come out of the Connors video is the fact that he mentions that the CBA will drag on to at least late November. Didn't Tom originally say the reasons for delaying his contract talks was to factor the CBA into his contract???

Well what now? Clearly there is a very likely chance that the CBA won't be finalised before Tom has to make his decision.

  7. I just don't understand our forward set up at all.

Is it to push numbers up, kick into space over the top and let our forwards run on to it ala Pagan's Paddock???

Also at centre bounces we start off in a fish bone type structure, however for the life of me I can't figure out why we start LJ off running into the square and not deep. I know who out of Juice Newton and Jurrah the opposition coaches would be more concerned about playing one out and deep in the forward line.

  8. Yep. He would also rejoice in helping his 'Old' club, hit back into the Big time... And Sculls is a diehard Tiger. Geez, I hope I'm all wrong about this, but one has to trust in their 'gut' felling.

I hope the playing group, can convince one another, to stick together.

Lol jesus christ the quality of posting has declined over the past few years

  9. LJ loves being at the Dees and aint going anywhere. Don't worry about ill informed commentary about the feuds up north potentially dragging him away. The opposite is the case.

As to his football, it should be obvious that he's carrying a few niggling injuries at present (like many players), but there's nothing seriously wrong. I would love to see a lot more (and better) forward entries, to at least give him a chance. Even with so few opportunities, he's still kicking 2-3 goals each week. More supply could easily lift this to 4-5 goals each week. If I was him, I'd certainly be very frustrated at the high number of low percentage outside 50 shots on goal from midfielders, who instead should be looking for LJ and other forwards to pass to. He copped some abuse after round one for going for too many speccies, and since then I reckon he's been holding back a little. It might be time let him off the leash, and just tell him to go for it!

    Thanks Rudeboy.

I completely agree. Jones has done it a couple of times in previous weeks.

LJ is our biggest weapon up front, why we don't isolate him in the forward 50 more often is beyond me.

  10. There is no reason why it's good enough for talented guys like Tapscott and Grimes to do the hard yards down back, while also providing us with good run out of the defensive zone (which is one of the most important things to get right in the modern game), but it's not good enough for Sylvia.

He is hard, he is an excellent overhead mark, and it wouldn't kill him to play slightly more defensively in the absence of Grimes, Tappy, Garland, Trengove and so forth. Sylvia slicing through half back and streaming down the corridor to deliver the ball will give opposition coaches plenty of nightmare. He isn't easy to man up on either, because you need someone who can nullify him in the air, but who has the agility and strength to go with him at ground level.

And it sure beats the hell out of watching Davey squib contests down there!

I was thinking the exact same thing today,

Played a game against Carlton in 09 there and from memory did quite well

  11. My uncle spotted him out on Saturday night having dinner at a family function in Caulfield. When he asked a family member "if that was Scully & what is the occasion, the family member confirmed that it was Tom and he was moving to Sydney next year & this was his going away dinner. He then saw my uncles jaw on the ground and told him that it was his cousin's birthday, engagement or something. He was clearly having him on & had the biggest grin on his face!!

Just as he was walking out my uncle asked how long he was out for & is he happy there!! 3 weeks & loves the place!! He went home a happy man.

Ha jesus christ. Good story though

  12. The last six weeks makes a fallacy of that belief. Stynes has been highly visible around the Club for some time and if the players have not been inspired to date by Stynes battles and charisma well....

Hmm there's probably merit in that.

  13. Good post. But don't expect many to discuss here, because they are venting their spleen in other threads.

I think most are concerned with the teams inability to perform under pressure, and the fact they looked terrible last night. It was the Hawks third quarter re-visited and something needs to be done. The concern is that the current coaching regime is stifling their development. They appear to have no answers to the forward press being adopted by most clubs that are competent. Failure to address it is incompetent, despite the age of our team.

We lack leadership on the ground as well as off it.

It hurts serving that up anytime, especially on the big stage like last night.

I reckon a Brendan McCartney would have more of an idea in his left [censored]. So I think our club would be derelict in their duty not to look at it. Due diligence.

Maybe they already are ? I'd be interested to know the findings from the review....

    Great post.

Honestly I don't care about how much we lost by last night, it's simply the manner in which we did.

  14. Out:Bennell (sure he does a couple of nice things a game, but it his work off the ball that concerns me. When was the last time he applied some forward pressure?), Morton( I'm not sure what his role is these days), Dunn

    In: Petterd, Maric, MacDonald
