The best thing that can happen for this club is to win 4 games next year whilst by and large still being competitive throughout the year. To win a premiship you need an extremely solid core of players but more importantly you need around 3 super stars (players considered to be in the top 10 of the AFL given that particular year).
At the moment obviously we don't have any stars however what we do have is an extremly strong core of players. If we can add Watts, Butcher and Scully to this we basically gain a Matthew Pavlich, a Nick Riewaldt and a Chris Judd.
After 2009 we can start worrying about winning games.

Mods ..... put this [censored] on meds.
He actually has a point.
Carlton have absolutely no depth. Yes they have Judd and their #1 draft picks but they have no backline to speak of and besides Fev nothing up forward.

missed it haydo. anything worthwhile?
-
am i missing something?, HE DIDNT WANT TO COME TO US! ffs, the last thing you wanna do is pick up a player who doesnt wanna be there. smarten up amateurs
That's part of it though Freak. Why did he choose Carlton over us?

Who's available now the trade period is over?
I think ROK will sign on again with the swans?
Maybe we can get Lonegan?
Who the heck is out of contract?
Lovett, Campbell, ????????

Pretty soft effort by Fremantle, just gave in at the end of the day. They've been massively ripped off.

16 Matthew Lobbe Port Adelaide 2007 ?
16 Mitchell Brown West Coast Eagles 2006 5 games
16 Richard Douglas Adelaide 2005 38 games
16 Adam Pattison Richmond 2004 47 games
16 Josh Willoughby Sydney Swans 2003 o games
average talent there at number 16 recently
really counts for nothing.

Brad Green is better than O'Keef. Whats O'Keef asking? I dont blame Green if he leaves by the way hes been treated and, some of the posters on here want to trade our BEST! player? He is our best bar none. Give him 3, look after him give him the captiancy. He deserves it and wont let us down.
I think its safe to say that there is no possible way Brad Green will be captain of Melbourne next year.

i don't acknowledge it because it's not true. rich is the best available. taking away the fact that we desperately need a key forward and the fact that he is from Western Australia he is the best player in the draft and most experts know this. no-one is disagreeing with it, but like most, the experts think we will go against the best available principle and pick on needs. i.e Watts
At the end of the day if we didn't have any needs and both rich and watts were victorian, Watts would not even be in contention.
Watts was labelled the #1 pick pretty much halfway through the season. At that stage it wasn't clear Melbourne was going to finish on the bottom of the ladder. West Coast and Fremantle were all challenging seriously for the 16th position.
-
what makes people think he is going to be any different to the above top 5 picks that have turned out to be nothing special?(and don't just tell us Watts' strengths because all of the players above were thought to have star potential at the time
What makes you think that Daniel Rich is such a sure thing? The same argument can be applied
-
We should have made this less public and try to get pick 60 or something for him and pay part of his hugely inflated salary to the new club
Im pretty sure all the clubs would be aware of Nathan's indiscretions of late.
-
Doubt he'll screw the club over AND there'll be enough interest in him that the Swans can force a trade out of someone
Lol I agree but still we can only hope. Let's show him a powerpoint presentation.

Hell no.
I am just saying that a lot of other clubs will be trying to get him from us.
I concur on all fronts.
-
Are you suggesting Sylvia is trade bait?
-
And a reliable source tells me that Cameron Bruce is set to captain the club officially next year!
As I said.... easy :D
Oh God help us.

Natanui won't play out of the forward line. He'll be used as a ruck rover.
Prediction 2009 leading AFL clearances
1: Sam Mitchell
2: Jimmy Bartel
3: Nicholas Natanui
4: Garry Ablett jnr

If he was available in the PSD for free I would take him no hesitation. Still yet I find it hard to believe why he would come out and tell a complete stranger he was heading to melbourne? Lol as much as I'd like it too happen sane ppl just don't go and do that.
-
Natanui, Rich and Watts are all worthy of the #1 pick. There are compelling reasons to take any one of them.
We need a star in the middle of the ground -Rich
We need a key forward- Watts
Were a boring club we need excitement- Natanui
In a way whoever we pick we can't go wrong, at least we address one of our key deficieny's
-
Watts won't play in 2009.
Might be a good thing, lock him in a gym for the year and watch him explode in 2010.
-
His best game of the year was against the Hawks when he floated around the half forward line and had stints in the middle. Picked up something like 28 possies.
-
could very well end up captaining the side one day.
