    The umpires tonight were putrid.Ā

Can say all everything that needs to be said about our poor goal kicking (which I think is actually more to do with our game style, which somewhat forced us into where we took our shots from where we did and results and more rushed behinds) but asides from that the guys tried their guts out and in reality I thought we dominated the second half.

Feeling really bitter and cheated by the umpires last night though 26 free kicks to 19 and giving them 3 x 50m penalties (only 1 of which I could actually understand what was there for) to our zero absolutely shifted the momentum of the game and kept them in it.Ā  Some absolute shockers in the last quarter in this respects - giving them deliberate out of bounds when it hadn't been paid all night, that dubious free kick in our forward pocket, that to rub sault into the wounds they then paid 50 on top of and took the ball from deep in our 50 when we were applying the screws to 2 / 3rds the way down the feild, that rubbish free against Sparrow on their half forward flank when they got into him.Ā  Total bias BS.Ā  In a game of inches, they gave them a mile and helped them over the line last night.Ā  Freaking furious.

You’re spot about these momentum shifts. You see it nearly every game btw.

7 minutes to go, 9 points up and it’s locked in their right forward pocket. Ā We’re on top, pressing, and a goal then and you sensed it was over. Carlton needed help, so a non-existent free kick against TMac for high contact gets them out of jail (with 50m for good measure). Momentum swing handed to Carlton.

2 minutes remain and we're still 3 points up. They've just been called back for an illegal kick-in after a behind and umps are getting it from their fans. The retaken kick-in reaches the square and Cripps, surprise surprise, gets another non-existent free for high contact at the front of the pack. Wasn’t touched. Another Carlton leg-up and a free i50.

Umps were actively looking to give a free in both cases to play to the narrative, be that to favour the big club (or star player), create a dramatic climax, keep their job, or avoid assassination by social media. I hate them.

Not flights, but I’ve booked accommodation. I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest and nastiest but it does come with a free infestation of bedbugs which you get to take home. 🄳

There’s free cancellation up to 24 hours prior. I WON’T be cancelling it though. ā¤ļøšŸ’™

There’ll be plenty of rooms back on the market when all those Blues fans cancel their bookings tomorrow.

About 50:50 supporters on my train. The Sunderland AFC bloke got off the train already.

Eh?? I live in Sunderland and SAFC is my other sporting love - off to see us at QPR tomorrow. Hope he didn’t embarrass us. If you’d asked him, he’d have willingly sung a few songs about hating the magpies.

    Go Dees.

Its an instant red card offence in union.Ā

I don’t really follow RU but in Eng v Arg at the weekend, a player was first yellow carded (10 mins in sin bin) while further tv review/consultation took place to decide if he should return to play or be sent off. He got the red so Eng played with 14 for the rest of the game (instant punishment) and he has since been further banned for two games by a tribunal (retrospective justice). That it may have been an accident (a rugby act?) was irrelevant, he was still responsible for the collision as he alone could have prevented it (think the other lad had just caught a drop out and was deemed defenceless). Ā AFL take note.Ā

As regards Maynard, I can only share in the collective dismay felt by fellow posters. Absolutely disgusted by it all and feel lucky that I can more easily swerve the shameful media sh!tshow you’re all suffering.

50's & early 60's we were the biggest along with Colliwobbles.

That was my impression in the early sixties with ā€˜Esserdon’ perhaps the third most popular. St Kilda were briefly a bit of a glamour club mid-sixties with Carl Ditterich and Ian Cooper taking hangers.Ā

North, South, Fitzroy, Hawthorn were nobodies and Footscray only existed out west.Ā Dad took me to Glenferrie once and we outnumbered home fans.

Not touched but still more touched than ours two weeks ago.

Yep. Didn’t stop #35 with the mullet claiming to have touched it and getting the soft call.

  7. To further compound matters, we now have players routinely ā€˜claiming’ to have touched the ball from shots to put doubt in the goal umpire’s mind and get the soft call. They know the ARC will be inconclusive. Marchbank succeeded last week. Worpel tried it on Sunday (Clarrie’s goal) but failed. We even had North’s McKay claiming to have touched one that didn’t appear to be within a metre of him yesterday. This needs to be stamped out. It’s cheating.

  8. ā€œThere are 3 teams, then the rest,ā€ said Lloyd during week. Care to think again sunshine?

Had to follow the scoreboard on a train. Looks of bewilderment when some bloke thumped the table when 105-104 came up.

Can’t wait to get home and watch it x5.

  9. As an Englishman, I can assure you that everyone on my WhatsApp groups called both the Starc catch and JB run out in your favour. Same with the broadsheet press and sensible TV pundits over here. Ā All that BS about Starc not being in control of his body after the catch?? This isn’t the NFL ffs. It was a catch and when the authorities get round to clarifying the respective laws (hardly necessary in the case of the run out/calling of ā€˜over’), Australia’s stances on both will be vindicated.

As for Broad, he’s a rubber sole. I’d hate to captain him if I was still playing. Did you see him having the white lines (requested by the bowlers pre-match as a guide to prevent no-balls), painted over in green as they were distracting him on Day 1? Ā All about him. It’s embarrassing.

Looking forward to Headingley mind, should be a bit spicy. Your lads’ll cop it from the drunks on the Western Terrace but I can’t see anything other than 3-0 by the end of it all.

    The poster is a he!

Then he is a star! It sounded great and showed that, when we’re all on the same page, our support is as good as anyone’s.

My English team (Sunderland) has a bitter rivalry with Newcastle, the Magpies. We delight in the acronym FTM. It’s why my Dad chose the Demons back in the 60’s because they were, at the time, Collingwood’s natural rival. He hated all things black and white.

I’m celebrating in style over here and the warm pommie beer is tasting like absolute nectar. We owned them today. FTM.

Dunno how the crowd break down was but you could hear the Melbourne chant from the Netherlands šŸ‘

It travelled across the North Sea too.

Kudos to the poster who last week said s/he’d be starting the chant near the end if we were ahead. If it was you today, hats off. Sounded awesome.

Had to work in the morning so completely missed the match, just watched the scores on my phone. I would like to register my displeasure at losing because now my planned Friday night watching the footy has been ruined.Ā

Same. Ā Out all day so I recorded it and had been ā€˜avoiding’ the score so I could watch it ā€˜as live’ this evening. All went well until a bloke in a St. Kilda jacket walked past me at the station. Wtf? I mean, this would be an unusual sight in London but in northeast England?? He saw my surprised look and asked if I went for the Saints? Ā My quick reply of ā€œno, Melbourneā€ proved my undoingĀ as he promptly told me the Dees had just lost. Schoolboy error.

Anyway, I’ve read this thread now so won’t be watching us getting humped by the umps.

He looks injured to me. Kept grabbing his calf. He was off the ground for quite a bit and was in the square more than usual.

Clearly pushing thru something @WalkingCivilWarĀ isn’t he?

With about 3 minutes to go in the 4th Fritta made a half-hearted challenge inside 50 and I was cursing him - they broke away but coughed it straight back and 20 seconds later Fritta pops up with the classy finish from Petracca’s handball. Kinda sums him up.
