Sounds like I am in the minority here, but Iād love Ablett to finish with a flag. He has been an unbelievable player for so long now, still having an impact in big finalsĀ after 350+ games.
Grew up around the time him and his group started in the cats VFL side, have always followed them from afar since.
Plus, I absolutely do not likeĀ Richmond. They are a real smug bunch and theirĀ two big forwards would be in my top 5 most disliked players in the comp.Ā
Go the Catters
Ā
Ā
Heās already been in two premiership teams.

The paycut they took was a proportionate pay cut with a corresponding reduction in the salary cap.
If they take a paycut the Tom salary supplement may go down in dollar terms but as a percentage of the new salary cap and media revenue from the AFL it will remain the same.
I think itās fair to say we donāt know what the future holds for next year for sure. CoVid mayĀ still be around in a big way. The AFL leaders may wellĀ change their minds regarding salaries and salary caps depending on the whole financial situation of the AFL and the economic situation in Australia.

Not sure some onĀ here understand the haircut we will take if T Mac leaves.
IMO he should go but we will probably end up paying around $200k per year of his salaryĀ for the next two years. Anything under $200k would be a win for us.
All players took a pay cut this year due to CoVid. Itās hard to predict what will happen to salaries next year given that covidās still around and the AFL has lost a lot of money due to lack of crowds etc.

Heard Kevin Sheedy being interviewed by 3AW on Saturday about his appointment to the Essendon board. If I'd been an Essendon supporter I would have been sorely disappointed. Sheedy could not justify his appointment beyond saying it gave the board someone with coaching experience. He couldn't articulate why that was going to be helpful. Probably because it isn't going to help.
Sheedy has been good for Essendon over many years, but making him a director now is another step backwards showing that the club has not yet understood that reliving past glories is not the way forward.
There's a moral there for us, too. For exactly the same reasons, we need to be sure that whoever we appoint to the Board, or to any role at the club, will take us forward and not return us to some idea of a glorious past. If Brad Green can add something to take us forward, then I'm all for his addition to the board.Ā Ā Ā
Yze?

I think the players have brought a horrible inconsistency to this year, but I have to admit, the system is completely out of whack, whenĀ you can have 6 or 7 players regularly not registering a tackle and that's even if we're winning.
It's not throw the baby out with the bath water time IMO, but we need to sort out some areas.
FORWARDLINE
We need to really look at our forwardline over the off season. We need to get genuine goal kickers in there. It's not going to do, to simply have pace, or have pressure. We actually need goal kickers to keep the scoreboard ticking. Weideman is a tick for this year, but has faded in the last two games when there hasn't been an adequate foil for him. So Jackson or Petty needs to play.
MIDFIELD
We need to examine the dynamics in midfield. I've said it before, I wouldn't be against letting Viney walk as a FA, but we won't. So get him forward or get him playing differently in midfield. We need to get Harmes in there too, it's ridiculous. And I think Angus needs to be in there as well. I don't know what to do with Max. He's clearly carrying something, but he's been terrible since he's been back. I'd even consider trading him (I'll wait for the backlash on that one). Need to work hard on those stoppage set ups and the way we move the ball from midfield to attack.
BACKLINE
The backline needs to shed Oscar McDonald and Joel Smith, but otherwise I think we've got a really solid group to work with back there. It's the one area of the ground I'm comfortable with. May, Lever, Salem, Rivers, Hibberd, Lockhart, Petty and Tomlinson. I'd have all those guys in my team.
We need 4-6 more elite players. Not Petty, Bedford, Smith, Oscar McDonald, Baker, Dunkley, Chandler, Fritsch, Brown,Ā Hore, Hunt, Pickett, Wagners, Jordon, Kolodjasnij, Nietzsche,Ā BradtkeĀ or other fringe VFL players,Ā or spuds that otherĀ clubs have rejected after years of failure. And they can stop kicking it so often to packs. Just because Gawn is in the pack quite oftenĀ doesnāt make it a great strategy.

I thought baker and bedford were good inclusions and would add lots of run to our side. All they have added is turnovers, missed tackles and pea hearted efforts. We need to clean out our entires 2s list as they are all rubbish. Thanks for the rubbish draftingĀ Jason TaylorĀ
Why did you think VFL fringeĀ players would add anything? This is entirely expected.

Another disgraceful performance.Ā
It keeps happening. The players arenāt willing or capable of making the necessary mental changes to play consistent football week to week. And Goodwin is repeatedly failing to get them going. I agree with all those referring to the opening bounce. You could tell from the very start we were flat. Inexcusable.Ā
Itās time to accept a few realities about our list, realities many of us already knew. Oscar McDonald is not good enough and will never be good enough. He has had enough chances. He is an utter liability with the ball in hand and his defensive work has, somehow, regressed this year. He is a complete disaster, so much so that Goodwin threw him forward to get him out of the backline, but he was so bad there he then had to swap him with May. Just terrible. IMO, that should be the last game he plays for this club.
Same goes with Jones. It was bad enough that he turned it over with a left foot shocker, but for him to then follow that up minutes later with a rinse and repeat left foot shocker is all you need to know about him. He is done. He shouldnāt be playing. Itās sad, we should honour his achievements, but he is a wreck out there.Ā
Is it a coincidence that when we brought Smith back our defensive set up fell to pieces? Iām not sure. But heās not a footballer.Ā
Melksham should have been dropped 5 times this year. He is lazy, selfish and pathetic defensively. So is Fritsch. I donāt think we can play both.Ā
I thought Langdon was our clear best all day. His missed goal was deflating and he clearly has a goalkicking issue, but at least he can hold his head up as an example of someone who played their role to the required standard. Gawnās marking was great and I actually thought his tapwork was fine. The issue in the middle was the mids falling to pieces: fumbling, quick fire handballs to no one, poor decisions, lazy kicks.Ā
Harmes looked lively in the fourth when given the chance to play mid/forward. Can we accept now heās not a defender?
Just like 2016 and 2017, they get our hopes up and then fail. I donāt know how many moreĀ times we can have someone bake us in the media, or someone say āthat will burn in our gutsā. Itās a pattern and maybe we need a reset of some sort to break it.Ā
6 elite players short
1 coach short
1 home base training ground and social club short.

Jack Viney is the most selfish footballer in our side. It pains me to admit it. He makes us worse in the middle. He does nothing to support teammates, but constantly rams into packs, even at times where a teammate is in a positionĀ to take the ball. His possessions are all grubby. Thatās the only word I can use to describe it. The hack kicks, the missed handballs, the spin back into the traffic to prove his strength in breaking a tackle. Iām sick of it. Pull him out of the middle.
He learned it from Jones.
