  1. The match sim will consist of four 25-minute quarters, plus game-specific simulations at the end of the second and fourth quarters. What does the highlighted part mean for the sim against North? Are they going to change scores, start play from specific areas of the ground, set the time, bring on and off players before they start a set, interesting words. An example could be, we will they ask North to go 3 points ahead with 60 seconds of play left, or vice versa.
  2. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/training-times Posted Gosch's Paddock 📅 Friday, February 28 📍 Gosch's Paddock ⏰ 9:15 AM - 11:00 AM I wonder where the captain's run prior to the Match Sim versus North will be?
  3. Beautiful morning at The Paddock. Windless with a few less spectators than usual. There was a group of young, probably academy players in MFC gear on the sidelines as well. Goody throwing the positions around, at one stage he spent 5 minutes on the board organising them. Spargo had some time on the wing as did Chandler. Langdon had some time off halfback and pushed really high. Fritsch continues to play a high forward role. Brown and Lindsay matched up against each other, either as half's or on the wing. They broke even, as Brown finds space with arcs and separation, and Lindsay makes straight line breaks with quick steps, and finishes very well. Sestan still off the backline and playing well, also showing structural leadership as he instruct others to position. Most of the sim sets started from a throw in from the back point post. We cleared well and found lots of space up forward. The backline couldn't get to the contest numerous times. Trac has brought lots of poise to the midfield. Clayton was in good form, shrugging tackles with hip movement, and beating the scramble and congested packs. Lever is doing well, as they play plenty of switches from one boundary to the other, a few times they went central. H. Langford missed a few hit ups and made a couple of poor decisions, though getting plenty of the ball. Billings is playing strong and wants the ball off the wing. Laurie is doing everything right as a mid. Woey has a bit of pain through his shoulder, but continues to do most drills and sims. They are happy and boisterous.
  4. There is the marketing, and why they pay for the rights to broadcast it.
  5. No free to air broadcast. A free kick to the NRL Indigenous/Maori game on channel 9. Why are the AFL pandering to the division in society, of the haves and the nots, and the bars selling that drug.
  6. I was there, saw Judd go down, spasm, crawl, got up, hopped, then walked with pain and discomfort for about 20 meters till the trainers met him. Given his will power, I'd guess he would have made it to the boundary by himself. Ghost could have seen the first part and made the opinion that at least he was able to move by his own and concluded it may not be too bad, being a more glass full kinda person. Her observations weren't wrong, just not a complete commentary. They also underpinned the opinion about the extent of the injury, which is more of a concern to me. Our thinking, it was not too bad, given he made his way towards the boundary by himself, before being assisted. We were hoping it was only cramp.
  7. A hot day down at Gosch's Paddock. They are working the squad hard, plenty of running and for a longer time of exertion than early preseason runs. A few suffered brain fades in the heat. The overall skin folds are minimal, their bodies are top light, they are ready to run. Great to see Spargo with the squad, he participated in the non-contact drills, the same for Tracc, who ran numerous laps, when they did sims. Fullarton is now in full training as is Lever, and McAdam. No shows, included Viney, Windsor, Bowey, Salem, Tholstrup and Kentfield. Goody and Chaplin were very vocal, mainly about the structural forms. The sims were dedicated to last few minutes, perhaps 10 sets were performed. The team in front, played behind the ball. The lead changed numerous times. They finished with the 30-second board being shown from the boundary, the ones in front protected the ball and the defensive had to match up. The ones in front managed easily. Langdon is flourishing as an on baller. Plenty of touches, a few inside the forward 50. Lindsay and Billings on one wing with Woewodin and Sharp the other side. They were making lots of connections boundary side for the back to the forwards. Chandler and Sparrow in the half-forward area, though not much involvement. Petty running the full ground from back to forward area, with Hore in tow. Jefferson started down back, fluffed a couple of easy marks, they moved him forward and he did much better. Sestan off halfback is doing well and Verrall had a good session up forward. AMW has poise and making good decisions with the ball. Kossie is looking good, ripping through the traffic with turns and bluffs. Campbell is giving Gawn some resistance in ruck and around the field, he is competing well against him. Gawn is doing more leadership now, vocal and supportive to the others. Actually, most of them are getting into the encouragement and congratulations. Poor Juddy, when he did 'it', he started crawling off to the boundary, team first attitude, get out of the way of others, while spasms and pain hit him.

  10. Yes, Brown is in full training. Definitely not standing out with any errors. Getting some involvement, moves well to space using lateral steps, good hands, good disposals. I wonder between Lindsay and himself, who are similar players, which one is ahead in Goody's thoughts. He was playing out of the half-back area today in the sims.

  12. There have been some sessions when they go fast and find an attacking corridor. Some wind was blowing straight down the middle as well. Could have been a matter of trying different styles. Though you could be right. Playing safe doesn't make for beating the best sides. As for the practice match, there will be plenty of maybe best 23 giving it a go and the game plan may be held untill round 1. In any case it will be an interesting start to our year. In Chaplin I trust, as a change up to the forward line.
  13. Beautiful morning at the paddock. The full field drill was skilful and done with plenty of vocal support. One drill was a completive one on two contest, defender double tackles, was encouraged. The sims started with Goody going slowly through the intention and set up. Then they competed in 3 or was it 4, 6 minute sets. Tackling was a lot more gentle than previous hit outs. May looking very fit, and getting intercepts and fists to many of the opposition's forward pushes. Tmac covering the ground well and vocal in the backline as was Petty. Max is running very hard and creating mismatches in the forward area. Langford found space on the lead and twice finished nicely. They played the boundaries, out of the backline, when looking central only half came off. Chaplin working on the forwards defensive setup. Mids separated to drills. Under the guidance of Radford, Whitford and Jones, they worked with Gawn and Campbell, most of the plays ended with a contested scramble. Forwards and back tall's, worked mainly with one on one or off the bag for marks and the follow-up groundball. Running was emphasised, as they develop match fitness. Those that didn't do the k's in sims, ran extra sprints. Some backs and forwards had more running sets. My impression is that there is so much pressure for spots, and they are getting competitive.
  14. Johnson has been doing well in the preseason, often finding some freedom from opposition that others can have difficulty with. He uses the boundary side well, and has a good leading pattern. I haven't seen him hit the packs or perhaps he is waiting for serious opponents. Yet to see him doing any ruck drills. My feeling about Jefferson is that he is a back-up to Fritsch. His one on one's, are fairly good, and at times shows he has the hands to go with it. Though a little inconsistent with that. His best asset in contest, is he keeps his feet, controls the aerial, brings the ball to ground and gathers it. His snap shot is also good.
  15. Verral is not quite there at the moment. Getting bullied in the ruck by Campbell, and Johnson seems a better forward. I like when he gets the ball in hand, as breaks lines because of strength and makes good decisions, but not getting it often enough. He is also good below his knees for a big. I haven't seen him take many pack marks or use his bulk to smash the pack. I believe we should stick with him, as may have more development. Would like to see him kick a few goals and to feed the mids with ruck taps in the Casey team this season.
  16. I think Caleb is playing out of the backline. I haven't seen him starting on the wing in the sims yet. I was impressed with Lindsay in the wing position. Sharp definitely has the tank and speed. My worry is, does he get enough of the ball and can he use it well. A few off kicks/turnovers today. Then there is Billings, Woewodin, Sparrow, Brown, even Bowey and Rivers. Our set ups are going to be interesting. Many options, and pressure for positions, especially with Melky, Salem and McAdam doing well in preseason. Mentha is improving, then there is AMW, Laurie and Hore, Johnson and Campbell. Sestan, Jefferson, Adam and Howes also in the mix. I haven't been able to leave many out of the possibilities. We have good depth this year.
  17. When they set up for the sims, Windsor starts off the half-back. They are really pushing high up the ground as forwards or backs. Meaning Caleb is forward of centre as they compact the contested area. The backs had TMac as the last man in one set up I saw, with May on his right side. The forwards had JVR as the last man who was loose on regular occasions, with the backs pushing past the 50 arc. The wings had, Billings, Sharp, Woewodin and Lindsay most of the time. Langdon was in with the centre mids. Brown was set as a half-forward, as they started the sim, then often working like a winger as Windsor did. Though not matched up with a player, so outnumbering the opposition's wingman.
  18. There was a big divot in the ground were Clarry landed knee first into it, during the tackle he attempted. First thought was hammy as he grabbed for that area, and made his way to the sidelines. Second thought was knee, given the divot, and the squat position he was doing to test it. Waved the trainers away, and was back out there in no time at all.
  19. Rehab on the paddock as I approach. Sparrow and Chandler in the yellow no contact cap, Tracc, and Verral, plenty of ball handling and running. Viney doing his own program. McVee and Fullarton running laps. Tholstrup in his own program. Spargo still on his own program, looking leaner than early on in preseason. No Kentfield again. They main group of about 40 players, gathered, looked at the board and half of them turned their jersey's inside out, creating light and coloured groups. In the warm up kicks, Williams took Langford aside and put pressure on him to get his left foot working with precision. Good to see Lever, Lindsay and Woey in full training. A bit of wind around, they handled it well. The warm-up drills were done with plenty of skill and voices. The score board was up and running. They started a competitive kicking, then handball game in small areas. The rehabbers, Sparrow, Chandler, and Tracc, stepped into the kicking (no contact) game and separated from the handball one as it was contact. The sims began 4 Quarters of about 7, 8 minutes each. Lights well ahead, then got over run by colours, who evened it up with the wind advantage and continued to against the wind. The backline of Tmac, and Windsor piercing the centre corridor got them dominating. McAdam has found his mojo, running offensively and defensively (I think he is trusting his body), He is very quick, involved, and skilful. Lindsay playing wing against Woewodin, was heavily involved. He has a good tank, in the with the backs, then to the forward area. Closer down quickly, wants to get the ball, wants to stop the opposition. Works well as an outside runner. Langdon played in the centre, alongside Clarry and Langford (could be an ANB substitute), got plenty of forward possessions. Laurie in the centre mids, moving well, getting plenty and using good skills. JVR, getting some good looks at it in Central positions Fritta playing wide and high. Finding it difficult to get them kicking it to him. Melksham looking good with leadership qualities. Petty got some mongrel going, even with own players.

  23. Really confused about our squad today, wasn't sure who was out there. When I first arrived I only saw Chandler and Koltyn in rehab. Chin was running the boundary, strapped left shoulder, heard him say the injury was in the joint of the shoulder area and could be 3 to 4 weeks. Koltyn did an agility test in boots (failed the test) then into runners and doing some boundary sets. He is looking bigger bodied this time out. The other rehabbers, Tracc, Gawn, Woewodin, Lever, Fullarton, and Jefferson, participated in the warm-up and some non-contact drills, then ran laps when the sims started, and drilled in rehab group. I think Jefferson had a run in the sims. Tmac and McVee in runners on the bike early and then Judd did some jogging away from Gosh's. Spargo still doing his own program. I saw Mentha early on, but couldn't see him later on. Sparrow was in casual gear, and hanging around the tent. No Kentfield or Kossie. Turner was getting some sim time. Had a big collision with Jed Adams, looked in pain spending a couple of minutes on the deck. Walked off to the boundary, waved the trainers away, then the sims finished. Looked like no injury was sustained. Sims were done with fewer turnovers through the middle today. The backs with Adams are Howes did well. Plenty of pressure, spoils and good decisions. Clarrie looking fit, he got very creative out there, taking them on, keeping them guessing and with plenty of involvement. McAdam found space and separation many times, in the forward area. Some of our ball movement was fast, often finding the central corridor after moving the ball around in the arc of the backline. JVR getting his mojo going, attempting pack marks, and demanding the ball with his presence. Fritsch has been working on his defensive skills, saw him attack the ball carriers one after another. Sharp is a difficult match up as he runs hard and can switch up the pace. Just wish he would get more disposals. Langdon was getting a few balls in the forward 50 as he ran the rails. Melksham is doing well, in lots of contests and winning enough of them. Windsor is also running well off the halfback. Love when the ball is in his hands. AMW is playing good consistent footy. Sestan is chasing everyone, again one that doesn't get enough of the ball. Verral needs some confidence, only saw him do a couple of good things. A little more time at Casey I reckon. We were short of numbers today, some run-ons including Noah Yze were with us. Plenty of fans and fun.
