  1. 100% keep Dunn.... offers 3 very important things to a list. 1. Versatillity 2. Long kicking 3. He gets under the skin of the opposition (every side needs one)
  2. McCaffer is a mid/fwd, in the Ricky Petterd mould but would fit in a midfield better than Ricky can as he plays both offensively and defensively. He has had injury issues, but they are not niggling soft tissue, or back injuries flaring up again and again. Each injury has been seperate and very unlucky. I for one would love to see Brent McCaffer at the Dees... Guy has some real quality about him and would walk into our best 22 (not that it is a difficult task).
  3. My positive is that we are so bad that the list is exposed and finally the players are getting their right whack for years of insipid play. Which results in culture changes and player turnover. So it is a negative wrapped in a positive. Oh and I am in love with Mitch Clark.
  4. I know the OP didn't actually say Jetta is a small forward.... But I just want to clarify anyway. Neville Jetta has never been (mid for WA his entire junior career) and never will be a small forward. He is a midfielder, just because he isn't a giant and he is an indiginous player doesn't mean he is a small forward... Neville's strengths are his strong body, winning contested footy, setting up goals with clever kicks and his ability to manouver in traffic. These are strengths found in mids, not small forwards.
  5. Sorry for the delay with this, been tied up at work... Jack Viney is a top 10 pick. The issue with him is that he isn't big and isn't fast, which means that in usual circumstances you wouldn't pick him in the top 5. His intangibles are incredible. He shows guts, leadership, bravery, defensive pressure, and toughness. These things aren't measured at a draft camp so you won't hear about him very much during testing... But trust me when I see that Jack Viney is easily the toughest Under 18's player I have ever witnessed. Which is a pretty big deal considering the amount of kids that comes through the system each year. I'll tell you one thing about Viney that is rarely mentioned, his kicking over 20-40 mtrs is absolutely elite, barely ever misses a target by foot... It is quite incredible that someone of his size who plays the game the way he does would also have an elite kick but he does, it is simply a perfect action for someone at his stage of development. Naturally, we want to snag Viney in the 2nd round, so hopefully no one bids on him (for the record I don't believe anyone will risk it)... But with that being said, I would still pick Viney at 3 if we had to and not feel bad about it because we will still have pick 4 and a mid round pick. Jack Viney will forge out a 200 game career (if there are no injuries) and will most likely been in the leadership group very quickly... So to me, that is well worth the investment of the number 3 pick. Picking Viney in my opinion is a sure thing, no hoping he comes on like alot of other high draft picks... He is a guy who will come in and give us his all at a high level for his entire career. He isn't a project, he isn't a freak athlete, he isn't a great endurance runner or any of that stuff you hear about skinny 17 year old draftees... Jack Viney is a footballer... So is Sam Mitchell, so is Joel Selwood, so is Dane Swan.
  6. I have always watched a lot of the under 18’s comp… and I am convinced I could have drafted better than MFC have… First off I would have picked Watts before NicNat and Scully/Trengove before Martin. I still hold hope for all of those guys, but in a very boring one paced side perhaps the footy would be a little more fun with the X factor of NicNat/Martin. I also would have picked Blease, Tapscott, Jetta. I didn’t know of Howe or Bennel so am not going to claim I was all over them. I am not going to go through every draft in hindsight and explain where we went wrong and at each pick, however I will tell you 4 names that pre-draft over the years I was desperate for the Dees to pick up and 2 players I was praying we wouldn’t pick up. The 2 players I was praying we wouldn’t pick were James Strauss and Lucas Cook… 1. James Strauss: Had an amazing kick and solid decision making skills, but that was all. He wasn’t fast, wasn’t tough, wasn’t a great man defender and wasn’t a confident player. 2. Lucas Cook: Was a poor version of Jack Watts, he had good skills for a big man, but never had strong pack marking ability, never displayed an X Factor and just seemed like a skinny kid who would never really become a big kid. The 4 players I was desperate to see us draft would make us a remarkably better side right now… 1. Jack Darling: West Coast clearly tricked everyone into thinking he was this bad egg… he had arrogance, he had a personality, he wasn’t a bland private school kid from Victoria. His talent was obvious to see and the fact he slipped that far in the draft was ridiculous, the fact we picked Lucas Cook over him was the worst. 2. Luke Parker: Tough as nails leader who never took a backwards step and worked his ass off, would have helped bring a tough/brave culture to any team (happened to go to Sydney which was perfect for him). 3. Dayne Beams: Convinced teams didn’t pick him because he was a bit different like Jack Darling… But he was an incredible talent, killed it up in QLD with his great running ability and he kicked goals… This one upsets me more than anything, cause Beams was “my boy” and it all went wrong when he went to Collingwood. 4. Ahmed Saad: This was just last year, he was impressive watching him in the VFL 3 times and knowing that he was still fairly new to the game. Had pace and eye for goal, but more importantly, absolutely loved applying defensive pressure, we are still crying out for a small forward of quality. Just makes me soooo mad that the Melbourne recruiting team failed so dramatically. I am what forum posters would call an “armchair” expert…. But if this armchair expert was recruiting for the MFC we would have all 4 of the players above right now.
  7. Moloney, Davis, Bate, Dunn, Bartram, Bennell, Petterd can all go via delisting, trade or free agency. Joel Mac and Sellar can go next year, keep them around for 1 more season for depth / senior bodies. Rivers will stay, although I am still not sure he fits in our FWD line or DEF line in the future.
  8. Clark is a legend... Deserves all the cash, give him even more if he wants it! haha. I am a man. Clark is a man. I love Clark. Clark is my man crush.
  9. I do not rate Fitzpatrick AT ALL. I know he is young and Melbourne supporters who have never actually watched our kids at Casey play love that, but you know, that doesn't actually make him a good player... Just saying.
  10. Kind of I guess? It's like an achievement award for not playing rugby. The award ceremony would have been amazing, 7 ex Victorians and 3 confused Queenslanders in attendance.
  11. Just ugh.... I seriously wonder if people have ever played or even watch footy. This is why I hate journo's and AFL media personalities (former players), as the general population relies on their opinion as a guide to their own opinion purely because they cannot forge one themselves. So when they have an opinion on a player, or a club, or the way a game was played 80% of the population take that as factual and develop and perpetuate that thought right through the nation. Therefore the "kick it long" people of this world decide Watts is no good and needs to be in the ruck. They decide that Clark was never a good forward because 1 guy who used to be a great coach (Matthews) said that he is a dud forward... Do people realise.... that Leigh Matthews actually said Ben Hudson would be a better recruit than Mitch Clark? Do we all know how ridiculous that sounds? Yet the general population still follow these media commentators I know this is going off topic... but this is the only reason I can think of, as to why people suggest these moves. As to why people suggest Clark in the ruck. As to why Watts must be played all over the ground to get the ball. The media needs to start getting things right, they need to actually analyse the state of things instead of writing a story just so they can put their name to something. Because they are treating everyone like fools, and most of us are eating it up. We are not the worst team ever, not everyone of our players are duds, supercoach points don't mean everything, stats mean nothing unless your damaging with the ball, under no circumstances should a player "kick it long" if there is no option, the fact that our administration and football department are in different buildings means nothing, Mark Neeld is not a bad coach, Mark Neeld has not lost the players.... We are just not very good at the moment, we have some weak players who we will weed out by drafting well. End of that slightly off topic, random rant.
  12. Ugh..... No. Jamar would be the number 1 ruck on every team besides the Eagles, Swans, Dockers. Martin would be right in the race to be number 1 ruck at teams like the Hawks, Tigers, Power etc. Our rucks are fine. Watts will be fine. Clark is fine. Just chill out and wait until we draft some midfielders.
  13. Clark was a forward as a junior. He couldn't fit into Brisbanes forward line with Brown and Bradshaw but he was so good they wanted him out there so they played him in the ruck. Last year he was played forward only because Brown was injured, he kicked 27 goals when he probably didn't really understand the team leading patterns due to training with the rucks all pre-season. This year he came to us, and solely worked on being a forward and kicked 10 goals in 4 games, straightened up our whole side and gave us a hard edge in the forward line. People want to move him???? He had one good year as a ruckman (where he was not better than Jamar in his AA year) then the rest of his career he was a very skilled player who was never really given ownership of a position. He is a forward!! Always was, it's Brisbane that took him out of his comfort zone not us, the fact he did well is a testament to Mitch as a footballer, not as a ruckman.
  14. Boak re-signed with Port last year long term... We don't need another big forward!! J.Brown wouldn't kick goals with delivery our forward line gets, we need mids only. Dangerfield is the perfect option. He fits the age bracket, is a game changer, a leader, is tough, kicks goals, tackles, everything. Perfect fit.
  15. Mitch Clark rocks and we now don't need a "gun" forward... We have one. I would like to see us use our first pick on a mid. Then for our 2nd pick I am thinking we could pick a mid. The third is a tough one but I think it would be best if we pick a mid. 4th pick is tough.... tossing and turning over it but I reckon we should go out on a limb and pick a mid.
  16. We are playing at the ground where we were destroyed by 186.... I want real, have a crack players in, so Macdonald stays. I think it will be - OUT: Dunn, whoever is the most sore out of (Garland, Tappy) IN: Clark, Frawley I know Blease and Bennell played well, but I don't want to see them in after MFC played well on the weekend. The last thing we need is players who may (just maybe) act a little soft against the Cats.
  17. Cale still has an ability to find time when others don't.... Despite all his shortcoming, that is a rare and unteachable skill and is worth persisting with in my opinion.
  18. I know what your saying but Stevie J would probably suck and be seen as a cancer if he wasn't at Geelong... You don't need 22 amazing role models who are always consistent... Every team needs some wild cards who can break it open, people who are a bit different.
  19. Haha have to laugh when you here that if he plays ok in the VFL he will be considered for selection... OF COURSE HE IS CONSIDERED!! It's Liam Jurrah FFS... He is the only game breaker we have! 1 week Casey, then straight in.
  20. He played 1 bad game then was injured. Beamer is our best mid, finished top 10 in Brownlow last year, if you think 1 bad game and not being in the leadership group changes everything your kidding yourself.
  21. You would keep Jake Spencer over Rohan Bail and Jamie Bennell? Really? I don't care how tall or strong the guy is... Spencer dropped the ball walking in for goal. My mum wouldn't even do that. Career = over.
  22. Hey the Dogs suck as well..... so you never know! Or you do know..... yeah, you probably do know.
  23. The only runners that we really have are Nicholson, Blease and Bennell... Not sure if Nicho will get selected yet, the latter 2 def not. In regards to Nicholson it would be an interesting choice to bring him in, he was in the best at Casey and while makes errors by foot does give us genuine speed and endurance. The dogs are small but are also slow like us, they have no one to run and carry and chase except for maybe Dalhaus and Smith. I wouldn't be against trying to bring a flair filled running side this week to exploit their slow pokes.
  24. OUT: Grimes (susp), Mcdonald (we are to tall), Bail (bad game) or Mckenzie (doesn't seem fit) IN: Couch, Moloney, Petterd
