  1. Gee I hope you're all correct about young Jack! As for me, I'm old enough to remember Diamond Jim!!!!! ps: what's (or should that be Watts) this rumour about pork flu at Brighton Glamor School!
  2. And Stan Alves on 774 gave him 3 votes - best on ground (Dermy gave him 1 vote over at SEN). But of course Stan's a mature head
  3. 6: Col Sylvia 5: Paul Johnson 4: James McDonald 3: Matthew Warnock 2: Brad Green (welcome back, and no Clint Bizzell after effects) 1: Nathan Jones And I liked aspects of Stefan Martin's game as well!
  4. While the Melbourne Cricket Club was founded in 1838 they moved to the present location in 1853. Keith Dunstan's book The Paddock That Grew is an excellent read and details the history of the ground.
  5. I saw quite a lot of Robert Flower and he was like a ballet dancer on the field: all grace and fluidity. He had an amazing presence. Martin Flanagan wrote a really good piece about him in the Age many years ago and if anyone knows where to find it and post it please do. Flanagan is of course a superb writer and his piece (as far as I can remember) captured Robert Flower beautifully.
  6. Hope you're correct. Remember Clint Bizzell's comeback after a similar injury - never the same again. But I hope it's different with Brad.
  7. I thought so too, that is until I saw Martin standing next to their ruckman (I don't think it was Minsen). Martin looked quite puny and was literally pushed out of the way as the ball was bounced. The action was quite dramatic and from where I was sitting it was startling to see him dealt with in that way. It almost appeared to be an act of contempt by the doggies ruck. I remember Martin spending some time in the ruck when he was with Sandringham, prior to us drafting him and I thought he could do well as a pinch hitter for us. However after last Saturdays effort - I'm not so sure!
  8. PJ tried valiantly on Saturday but he just couldn't maintain "it". Bailey tried Martin in the center a couple of times in the first half but he was easily pushed aside by his bigger bodied opponent thus leaving PJ to battle on alone. He needs help from Jamar in there to help out!
  9. Thanks PJ. Realising how strange Melbourne (the city, not the club) must be for a lad from the outback, I was worried he'd gone back home. But all's well eh!
  10. Anyone know what's happened to him? Injured? Ill? Gone home? Gone missing?
  11. I believe Stef is 200cm tall and he originally played in the ruck. And by the by, does anyone remember Northey using Danny Hughes in the ruck all those years ago? Well we elevate the new one!
  12. The bloke who rucked for Sandringham a couple of seasons ago...Stefan Martin!
  13. The kid's just finished year 12, he's been injured and he's come back and played well for Casey. He's only played half a dozen games at senior level. Give him a few more games! At junior level he was probably the most accurate kick in the competition, so let's see how he develops in the big time. Give the kids a go.
  14. 6: Frawley - the kid's coming along beautifully. 5: Davey - one player who really knows how to use the pill. 4: Morton - one day this kid'll be sensational. 3: Meeson - and I said he was a dud, silly me. 2: Robertson - and he didn't wait till we were well beaten to kick 'em. 1: Moloney - we need him on the field all year.
  15. What do you expect! Lousy time to stage a game on a Sunday evening, freezing weather and playing an interstate club.
  16. Before half time I was shaking my head wondering if any of our players were up to it. However in the end:- 6: Frawley - his best game for the MFC. 5: Davey - level headed team leader. 4: Moloney 3: Rivers 2: Warnock 1: Jones And Dunn dun good too!
  17. From where I sat! 6: Aaron Davey 5: James Frawley 4: Cameron Bruce 3:Colin Sylvia 2:Brad Miller 1Brad Jones And just a couple of comments:- Davey could actually become the player he has threatened to become i.e. superb! How pleasant to see James Frawley overwhelm that little sh*t Nathan Brown. And, I don't want to speak too soon but - the backline's looking pretty good isn't it eh!!!!!
  18. My Father and Mother both supported the Melbourne Football Club and as a young lad I joined them. We lived in Brighton and as my Father put it - Brighton doesn't have a VFL (now AFL) team, we live in greater Melbourne, so we support the MFC. It made sense to me as a kid and it still makes sense to me now. If I travel to (say) Adelaide and I'm asked where I come from I say Melbourne, not Box Hill or Brunswick. To me "Melbourne" is the city of Melbourne and not just the CBD. Look on an atlas - Melbourne's a big place and there must be lots of potential supporters out there!
  19. Reading Emma Quayle's fascinating book "The Draft", of all players mentioned, one stood out as a real leader...Jack Grimes. I'm not sure how long Jr.McDonald will remain at the club, but for me it's Green then maybe Moloney then possibly Grimes.
  20. I notice that we now have 28,174 members. Keep 'em coming folks!
  21. Well, this is how I saw it:- 6: Petterd 5: Green 4: Cheney 3: Jones 2: Moloney 1: Warnock And, I thought Frawley, Bruce and Spencer were OK.
  22. Expect to see Stefan Martin doing some back up ruck work as well. Didn't he start at Sandringham as a ruckman? And of course they didn't hand him the #34 for nothing did they.
  23. Hey Rudeboy, ya going to see Cecil Taylor's gig in Melbourne?
  24. Now I know Garland works sooooo well down back. But...he apparently was a forward in Tasmania. With Rivers, Warnock, Martin, Grimes, Buckley, Whelan and Cheney available, is Garland worth a go up forward?
  25. I saw the lad in the practice match at Princess Park and was impressed by his aggression and tap work, however I was a little taken back when he kicked into the man on the mark not once but twice. So my questions to those who have seen a bit of him:- 1) Can he mark? 2) Can he run? 3) Can he kick? 4) At pick 35 in the Rookie draft of 2007 and at 19 years of age is Jake Spencer a better prospect for MFC than Robert Warnock is for Carltank?
