Prendergast and his team were clueless. What were they triying to build?

nicely behaved boys who look good in a Blazer?

Ahh to read a Red and Blueprint.

How can an experienced CEO construct a Template that is so wrong on every level?

if it was his first job then maybe a small amount of understanding, but it was his 4th term!!!

Ahh to read Don Argus's report & ideas, for both the Mfc,  & also the ACB.  Red & Blueprint  was that his?  that to.

agree,   I don't think he has been ruled on..  other than he's just turned 20,  & the others are still 19... stretch etc.  they don't have the bodies for it Yet.

others are ahead on seniority maturity.  ANB will get a go IMO,  later this season.

;) spot on,  the wrong people in the club in-charge, but this is near chronic with us...  50 yrs of fails does not lie.  5 yrs can deceive,  but 50 of the same-old/same-old (barass/northey excepted)

does not lie.  Barass would not come on board unless changes were made more than 12 months out.  so he had a chance to change things. he did.  we reaped results from his teams-work

no,  well not really,  the fish rots from the head.   We have had people (boards) in-charge of hiring people,  who just didn't know what to do,  & how to do it.  they are your culprits.  they hired the wrong people, who in-turn,  made bad dee-cisions.

..... so, its our fault,  as a Club,  we have to make sure in future we have truly Footy Smart people,  & not just ex-players making our decisions on the Board,  like the Hiring of Coaches,  our Recruiting Managers,  & the Footy Department heads,  Re development.

....  we cannot blame others,  because that encourages us to be apathetic when voting for directors.   This is where the worst of our fails has happened...

50 yrs tells us its so.

long live 'Checker & Smith's, & Barass's reputations,  for building fierce competitiveness into they're clubs.

If nothing else, I think the club learned a lot about what not to do when building a list from the Prendergast years.

Had to learn in the hardest way possible, but looks like we've learned.

yes CJ,  & good lessons learned,  but they cannot stop the negatives from well-meaning supporters who give the unhealthy message just trying to help.   Some players can stay realistic,  & some lose perception from the backslapping,  & get carried away with themselves & lose discipline.

the message here is Garlett has shown already in his past,  that he can get wayward.

imo,  he would be better served,  kept a tad insecure of his spot,  but needs at the same time to be fully confident onfield.  2 different things. can be symbiotica

Go your hardest being combative and concocting class warfare. I prefer to spend my supporter time enjoying the game and helping the club.

Maybe people just prefer the northern stand because it's not looking into the sun.

    * the class warfare was happening to its support base,  for over 40 yrs,,,   but has hit worse since the designing of the 'Northern stand',,,   & then construction of...  This really shut people out..

    * Helping the club,  is opening it up,  & starting to recognise where its changed in the wrong ways,  over the past 50 years..  this is what truly helping the club is all about.  Not going along with the past Status Quo of failure & dee-mise.

....  its similar to the churches unwillingness to talk of they're filthy laundry out in the open,  preferring the in-house closet confessional.

Guess what,  the people-supporters want to know what goes on,  & what goes around.   And they want to know what they may be missing out on.  & the want to be a part of the 'say so'.  they want to fully understand what is being contemplated at the club..  they do not want things being done to them.

.... the board needs to be more transparent publicly (when its back to a Mfc selected board),  about Melbourne Demons issues.  should not have to attend meetings to know whats being contemplated.

.... they can see/feel where they stand when treated 2nd class...........  but obviously those in the 1st class don't get it because they don't have to think/feel about it.

This is why the 'North',  & more particularly,  'the directors from the North',  don't get IT .....  or haven't in past boards...  because they are from/of the inner Castle. .... they are 'the bishops', 'the knights', 'the dames',  & the others can just eat cake.

    * This is the disenfranchising of the old demon supporters,  who once kept this club alive & kicking.  & they're falling off the bandwagon is the end of Dynasties of supporter families.  fragmented & gone to more welcoming homes.

I think that's a load of twaddle. The club has never been more open and accountable, and, in my opinion, heading in the right direction after 10 years out of the finals.

Also, I didn't say Collingwood the club was persecuted.     I said their supporters act like they're persecuted.  In fact somewhow they feel superior and inferior at the same time! (WB supporters just feel persecuted.)

I just don't want to accept that as a mode of operation for my support for Melbourne.

there you go,,,  collingwood supporters are the club.   without supporters, there are NO clubs.  that's what clubs are,  organised gatherings of people with common interests.

see,  this is where the club must have gone wrong,  because the supporters who remain,  from the North,  think of the  'outer supporter'  as unimportant.  non consequential.  Its a silent attitude that smacks of self importance,  over the others in the outer.

and guess what,  the outer areas are low on demon numbers.  way down on yesteryear.    It used to be that teens & younger kids could leave the southern stand near game end,  & go the the players race,  then down to the rooms for after game celebrations.  Not any longer with the game becoming Pro.   To good for those kiddies.

persecuted you don't say???   you don''t think Mfc supporters don't act persecuted???   they certainly do.   there is always threads of this ump or that umps advisor.  'they have it in for us'  'we are easy targets'...  & there is some truth to those comments...  & it stems from being too Passive as a club,,  this Passivity was what 'Checker'  turned out on its soft head,  when he arrived.

the passivity got him back,  it killed off  'Checkers  Aggression', after ridding the MCC of Smithy.  the DNA was gone.

This talk of 'AFL power' and 'failure to fight' is 50% rubbish and 50% delusion. It's time some here stopped feeling persecuted and left that attitude to others, like Collingwood and Western Bulldog supporters. One sign of real strength is to take charge of your own actions and consequences.

A fine was appropriate for Pedersen. If it had been a player from another club in the same act toward a Melbourne player, some on here would be calling for a week or two. Accept the error, take the penalty, and run.

..... well for a persecuted club the Magpies have enjoyed a lot more success than us, over the past 5 decades.   So maybe we should follow their lead in whatever description that would be...   complaining publicly might then help us win more often,  in not only the footy field but also within the AFL off-field areas.

This is your favourite topic which you talk about ad nauseum, often nonsensically.

What does it mean in practical terms though? What are some examples of things you think we should be doing that we currently don't, to support your points above? Real-life examples, not just incoherent bluster please.

Be more aggressive publicly,  for the supporters,  the ones we've lost over the past 50 years.. not the MCC ones.   The ones who would fill the Southern Stand proudly,  for a club that fights & dares to win,  overtly.

Those ones who have since taken up with the Hawks, or the Pies Saints Bombers or Tigers,  those ones we've lost because of this Northern stand gentile nausea.

    That impotent conservativeness.

That way which we keep doing the political correct thing ad nauseum...   how we keep recruiting (when the north has control of this club), choir boys or flashy types who have no go in them.

The way the many over north castigate our own,  if they get a bit rugged.  a bit tough.

The way the 'North' keep all contact with the Demons players,  within they're own confines of the MCC,   AT the expence of the outer supporters children, & the average Demon punter.

    * To encourage our players to be more rugged,  to be physical,  to be overtly tough,  & for the players to show more interest in the supporters of the Southern side,  of the outer.

    * To bring the Qtr time huddles over to the 'Southern outer',   in equal measure as the Northern side. 1st Qtr huddle on the Southern side of the ground, 3rd Qtr huddle on the members side of the ground

    * To allow Melbourne supporters access to the rooms after all home games,  like it was in the old days, supporters behind the netting,  but within talking range of the players...  accept after games of 'poor repute',  where abuse may be an issue !

To get this club to be more open to people,  all people,  who would like to be a supporter,  & to be 'less stuffy' as 'Jimma' would call it...  it is heading this way under Roosy, & PJ :

But how long will that last after they've left our building,  & we are back to being the handbag of the MCC ????   nothing more than an adornment of the MCC.

These are my thoughts, to bring the club back to its grass roots supporter,  & out from behind locked gates &  the Castle walls.

Heritier Lumumba (Carried ankle injuries in his first year, so juries out. Will know by the end of the year but reports are promising)

Sam Frost  (Injury ruined first year. Looks like he will hold down a position in the team for the time being.) Juries out.

Ben Newton (Free Agent) (Started to show very promising signs in the last few games.) Juries out

    Drafted

Christian Petracca  Going to be an absolute gun. Special X factor

    Angus Brayshaw     GUN!!

Alex Neal Bullen      Bit of a smokey  and a surprise at such a late pick. Got much more game time than expected in first year and showed                                       he's going to be a solid long term contributor.

Billy Stretch             Same as above except not smokey as was Father Son

Jeez. Maybe Fitzroy should have learnt to fight, become tough and rugged, and fired back and rocked the boat. They should have dared to win. Maybe they'd still be around today?

Fitzroy did dare to fight,  they had lost out geographically.  support base wise.

we Mfc,  had a big support base once,  within a closer social society which we all lived in pre-60's...   those (attitude) who got Smith,  also led our dee-mise.   the club slowly became closed off to the public.  and so to our support base outside the MCC & then the northern special areas.  the kids could no longer get to the players race unless a member,  & then none could get to the players race at all, unless in the MCC.

the kids lost touch,  then so did the dads.  as the kids were the excuse that allowed dads to get quietly close to their idols.

then the ground was off limits to the public before & after games.

then we were bombarded with costly food,  drinks,  entry tickets,  & then the worst farce was being bombarded with loud adds over the loud speakers & ground announcers..... please.

all so we cannot get close to our Hero's.

Satellite images and NASA data show vast forest fires blanketing Singapore with record pollution

Singapore, Southeast Asia's ultra-rich island city-state, has been doused by record-breaking levels of air pollution from forest fires in the surrounding Indonesian islands. The fires, initially started illegally by Indonesian farmers to slash-and-burn some land, have since blazed out of control. The air pollution has far surpassed the point at which it is said by health officials to be "hazardous" and has set off a diplomatic tiff between Singapore and Indonesia, the world's fourth-largest country.

NASA, which maintains near-real-time databases of everything from shipping movements to wind patterns, also tracks active large-scale fires around the globe. Their data can be projected onto Google Earth, which I've done here to visualize the remarkable extent of the fires and help show how they've so polluted Singapore from hundreds of miles away.

First, here's the view on Google Earth zoomed in. That little bit encircled in yellow is the entirety of Singapore, population 5.3 million. Above it is the Malaysian peninsula, where 200 schools have been closed due to the air pollution. To the left is the Indonesia island of Sumatra, where the fires are. As you can see, they're quite densely packed. Each of these flames represents a large-scale fire that's occurred just within the past 48 hours:

And here's the view zoomed out. This gives you a sense of how much of Sumatra is burning and why Indonesia – and Singapore – are treating this as such an emergency. Little Singapore is marked by yellow text in the center of the map. Sumatra, to give you a sense of how vast those fires are, is a touch larger than California. But it's much more populous, with over 50 million people. There are also fires visible in Malaysia and the Indonesian island of Borneo.

Finally, I've zoomed out here to show you the fires in relation to all of Southeast Asia. This view is so wide that India, China and the curve of the Earth are all visible. Yet Sumatra is still practically blanketed in flames. Maybe you can understand why Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong says the fires – and the air pollution – could remain for weeks or even months. "It depends on the burning, it depends on the weather, it depends on the wind," he said. "It can easily last for several weeks and quite possibly it could last longer until the dry season ends in Sumatra which may be September or October."

According to a metric called the Pollution Standard Index (PSI), this is the most polluted Singapore's air has been since the measure was first taken. The PSI hit 401 on Friday, way above the 300-point threshold that health officials say is dangerous to public health and even peaking above 400, at which point the air is said to be potentially "life-threatening to ill and elderly persons." Officials have warned Singaporeans to stay indoors.

To give you a sense of why Singaporeans are treating this as so severe, here are two photos from Reuters showing the city skyline after the pollution started and on a normal day:

................  Indonesia's Minister for People's Welfare accused Singapore of "behaving like a child" for its official and popular outrage over the pollution.

AFL politics is all about power and we have sweet fanny adams.

When Eddie gripes about this or that, Gill drops everything to listen. When a "power" club gets 34 players suspended, the AFL machine rumbles into action to fast track their return to power.

When we kick up a stink, the AFL threaten us with home games at Etihad, Sunday twilight games against Freo, 2 trips to Perth & 2 to Qld ... etc. "Review" the QB draw. They might accidentally forget the exact amount to pay us under the competitive balance arrangements.

It's not really about us being "polite" or compliant. Or PJ having "balls". We are not yet powerful enough to force issues in our favour.

Only wins, supporters, attendances, sponsorships .... (ie money in the AFL coffers) will bring that power.

power is about accepting it,,,,,   its not the size of the dog,  but the fight in the dog.  we have been too 'MCC'  all these last decades,  where zipped lips are seen as strong...   well thats worked just fine, hasn't it.

We have to act up,  & fire back in the press like big'ead does,  like Sheedy did,  the Bombers learnt to fight & became power-full,  the Hawks learnt to be tough rugged & learnt to fight the other powers,  & became power-full..

We wilted,  just like the flowers we'd become.

Well its time to reverse that trend,  that holier than thou trend.

We have an ex Bomber in the top spot,  PJ,  so he should know how to fight,  even if he's in the AFL's pocket,  to do 'our job',  for them...   we don't want to be on an AFL drip forever & a Winter.

We have to learn to stop being so politically correct,  & dare to fight & dare to Win.   And we have to be a diverse club of all demographics,  our support base.

yes, but the reason the AFL pick on us is because we do not fight them, and we've  pro--gressively  grown smaller under this idealistic soft way.    the AFL get away with picking on us with our 'gentile touch'.   this is a part of our political correctness.   the over polite club....   never ever rocks anyones boat !

  16. Cameron Pedersen, Melbourne, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Nathan Wright, St Kilda, during the fourth quarter of the Round Four NAB Challenge match between Melbourne and St Kilda, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday March 13, 2016.

In summary, his $1500 sanction can be reduced to a $1000 sanction with an early guilty plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Pedo is a clean skin according to this...  I think maybe we should fight it. to keep his clean record.  who wants points or carryover record for that.  lets not take the soft option.

How good is it that we now have one of the tightest races for selection and quite clearly it's still undecided.

The reason for the selection issues is that the three guys who some have had in/out all through this thread - Harmes, Kennedy and Oliver - all had cracking games. Two are key members of our best forward press ever - Kent and Jeffy and Frost and Pedo are all part of this too. Hoges is when he wants to be and even Jack W seems to be a bit more eager to be a part of it. How different is it from the good old Neeld days when he tried to impose a press and didn't have buy in from Col Sylvia and had such a slow side that it didn't really matter anyway.

Looking at the changes for Rd 1, Brayshaw and VB would both have to have blinders this week to both get in and even then I'm not sure they get in, although quite obviously they will be in once we have an injury or bad day.

Matt Jones' (courtesy of his minor injury) and Michie come out of the 24 from the Saints, Oscar makes room for Dunny and the Prince returns for Wagner but then it gets mega hard for the selectors and for us.

The loss of Pedo (if suspended) would make it easier but if that happens VB extra height probably gets him in to play as the high half/fourth tall. But if Pedo is cleared then how tough is it.

Frost - Playing against his old side and gives flexibility and coverage in case of a big going down and whilst his detractors may have missed it, he works extremely hard chasing down and applying pressure. And he's bloody quick for a big bloke. I wouldn't want to tell him he's out and I can't really see it happening v the Giants.

Grimes - Everyone's favourite to remove but the guy keeps presenting and while he lacks explosive pace, he is mega endurance fit which means with reduced interchange rotations he becomes more important. It would be an extremely hard, almost nasty call, to drop him.

Harmes/Kennedy - how could you drop these guys after their press work that was a huge factor in us winning the game.

Oliver/Tyson - How good was Oliver and if it gets down to him v VB, it's not easy. The club's spent the pre-season using his excitement for promotion and I just can't see them dropping him. Tyson's penchant for getting caught annoys quite a few of us, but his workrate is huge and his thumping kick is handy. He's also playing against his old side. Both of these guys score goals as midfielders, so why would you flick one of them unless their form warrants it.

Bugg - Don't even think about it. He's a lock against his old side.

IMO, if Pedo gets off, then only one of Brayshaw or VB will get back in and VB's extra height and speed (even though he's not as classy or as good a kick) means he will get the nod, with Angus having to spend a week in VFL before playing against Essendon.

And because Mummy is such a nasty pice of work, I reckon we will stay with Frost so that we are covered in case of injury. And that means Roosy will have to be coming up with all sort of spin doctoring telling Grimes he's the 23rd man. Probably the same script as last year when he told him he was no longer dual captain.

My Rd 1 team (assumes Pedo is available):

    B: Jetta Dunn Garland

    HB: Lumumba T-Mac Salem

    C: VB Vince Bugg

    HF: Harmes Pedo Kent

    F:   Garlett Hogan Watts

    Int: Kennedy, Tyson, Frost, Oliver

    Emerg: Grimes, Brayshaw, O.Mac

thats an interesting setup Deespicable... but is it that good,  we can go in 3 men down  ???    ;)

Love Bernie playing off half-back. Adds another string to his bow and will only further his career at the Demons. Bernie turns 31 at the end of the year but I could easily see him playing another 2-3 seasons after 2016. Could be a dangerous forward as well.

also Bernies timeframe works well,  with the development of MWhite, Wagner etc.    And having him 'back',  allows us to start to settle the midfield,  when Lamumba is fit,  we may have an injured mid?
