  1. Thanks for the updates guys.

With a bit of luck the season could be well and truly saved for the red and the blue in Adelaide of all places!

The fat lady hasn't even started to clear her throat yet. The Bulldogs are a hard team to beat and their supporters are every bit as strange as Collingwood's.

  2. I don't post here often but watching tonight has made me think about the effectiveness of a really good zone like Collingwood and St Kilda use.

Bailey seems to have us following the Geelong model of high risk, fast, corridor-centric Geelong-like footy. Great when it works, terrible when it doesn't.

Collingwood looks so good tonight that I'm worried we're throwing all our eggs in the one gameplan basket.

And yet when we played them this year they struggled to get on top of us. Go figure?

  3. anyone no anything about the boy. hes put his name up for the draft

Yeah. The boy has a long way to go from D Section amateur reserves to AFL national draft selection but if he works hard, could emulate the efforts of Art Vendelay of 2008 when all 16 clubs completely ignored him for the pre season and rookie drafts.

  4. I suspect I'll be in a very small minority here but I don't think we should really chase Pavlich at all. If he was two or three years younger sure, but despite the fact he is an outright star, I don't think it's the right time to be chasing a player of his age. The precedents for trades involving players of that quality suggest you need to trade seriously high picks plus a good young player. I would rather see us keep all our young potential stars (like Gysberts mentioned above) and aim to have as many players peaking at once as possible. Pavlich will be past his best by the time we're challenging for a flag and the sight of Morton, Gysberts, Tapscott or whoever tearing it up at another club would break my heart.

Another couple of years sticking to the plan is important. Trading too early (for Judd) will come back to bite Carlton as they've already lost Kennedy and Judd's peaking now but they're still not serious contenders. Let's not trade for anyone that won't be at or near their peak when we're pushing for no. 13.

You may very well not be in a minority. As great as Pav might be, he probably will come with the wrong price tag and at the wrong time for our club in view of his age. We do need a player of his sort but where is he going to be when we're ready to start peaking in 2 - 3 year's time?

  5. A couple of years back, when you had your sights trained on the MFC and we were down on the floor and getting thumped on a weekly basis, you stuck the boots into us. Said we stood for nothing and threatened to take away our annual Queens Birthday blockbuster if we couldn't attract a crowd of more than 60,000.

Now, the Bummers managed less than 60k attendance last night and they copped a hiding from Collingw&%$.

What are you going to say and do about that? Give them some more prime Friday night fixtures?

Or are you too busy changing the rules and spending hundreds of millions on GCSuns and GWS to bother any more?

  6. The idea of Garland, Rivers, even Frawley at times up forward has been one of my favourite topics. But the unimaginative coaching staff has shown complete resistance to any such thought. I've lost confidence in them. I'd forget it and be patient waiting for the next coaching team to take us deep into the final eight.

    Spot on.

We've struggled all year in our key forward department and our coaches have not even tried the move of one of our abundant numbers of tall defenders up there. Not even for part of a quarter to see if it could work. Their conservative approach stands in stark contrast to Brad Scott and Damien Hardwick.

As for Rivers, I agree with his lack of pace being a problem but then I wonder how he would go now that Liam Jurrah's back in the side. And he did go forward on a few occassions in Daniher's last year or two with limited success.

  7. Maric - OK Needs to apply self & believe more.

Blease - Quick, nice kick, did I say quick, with a another burst of acceleration as well.

Martin - good with a lot to learn, did some nice things, needs time as a forward to develope.

Cheney - Very good with ball use, good decisions, will turn into a good player as he adjusts to the AFL tempo.

TMac - Smarts, attacking won plenty of the ball & attacked but got sloppy turning the ball over too many times, not normally as erratic, trying to be attacking made some mistakes. Talented.

PJ - Had a good hitout for about 2&half or 3 Qtrs.

    Needs miles in legs - 2 - 3 weeks.

    No garland

    No Watts.

    Alls good.

Great ground down there @ twilight atmosphere, for a twilight VFL game.in warm weather.

Hello Mr. Dunbar. Thanks for your report. I just wanted to ask if you watched the game sitting in one of the trees outside the ground and were you disguised as a koala?

  8. Matthew Bate was interviewed on SEN this morning. He was introduced as the player required to carry the mantle for the forward line in the absence of so many injured players.

Matthew explained that he played in yesterday's VFL practice game with Casey to develop some more match fitness after missing a lot of the preseason. His injury was to a quad muscle which he reinjured on coming back. Because it was a recurrence of an injury he had to take care with his rehab.

When asked where he expected to be played he said that most likely at half forward but that he might also end up a bit closer to goal.

Matthew was asked how tough it was being an early draft pick and seeing others drafted at the same time playing in successful teams. He said that he was craving team success having played in finals when he first broke into the side. He is sure that in the future it will become a good team.

Bate is helping mentor Jack Watts who is really keen to learn. He was really good in first half before being rested and all he needs is some more confidence in match play.eBaye also said that Sam Blease has an amazing attitude to training. He has put on a lot of muscle and if we get him up and running, he will be an asset to the team.

Finally, he was asked if he receives any ranga barbs for his red hair. Matty answered that making jokes about hair colour is not like being racist and it's become like water off a ducks back to him. in fact, he gets bagged more when he uses hair product for trying to cover it up!

  10. Chip is such a versatile sportsperson too!

According to today's HUN (at p72) James Frawley and his partner Nick Kyrgios went down to second seeded German pair Kevin Krawietz and Dominik Schulz 3-6, 5-7 in the first round of the Australian Open Tennis Junior Boys Doubles.

I believe he's a handy cricketer on top of all that. :)

  11. It's happened again but this time ...

Late on January 14, the planet blacked out for two days and 17 hours.

The whole world saw the future...

Actually, it wasn't the whole planet, just Demonland and I'd like to thank Nasher for getting us back on air in difficult circumstances.

Now, tell us what you did to fill the void and whether you saw into the future ... particularly Melbourne's future!

Sorry but the entire period of two days and 17 hours is a complete blank. I went cruising down the Yarra with some mates from Carlton.

  12. A bit too rugged (hot) out there for me today. I hope the club went a bit easier on the boys or changed training times or venues and of course notified the forum if they did. Maybe they all went for a swim at the Casey Aquatic centre.

    Can anyone advise?

Didn't go but none of our first year players were at training due to the fact that they were at the 2 day AFLPA induction camp.

Apart from that all there is known is what Nathan Jones said on Twitter:-

"Wow!!! What a session out at a steaming Casey Fields .. Off for lunch then hittin up some boxing this arvo with my man Johnny Bowman."
