  1. It's Jay Clark's turn today - Melbourne Demons indebted to long-suffering supporters.

Ostensibly a story about how "vice-captain Nathan Jones says the team owes it to the club's long-suffering supporter base to improve this year", Clark pushes his way past the influx to the club of recruits and better training standards to inform readers of this incredible scoop:

Melbourne remains the subject of an AFL investigation into allegations that it tanked in 2009, and key officials could face life bans.

The Demons must respond to the league findings by Tuesday.

Earth shattering news indeed and thanks for informing us about this as otherwise we would never have known.
  2. So Fan was working at the club in 2009 was he?Now I understand why it was such a shite year!

Ha ha ha - good one hoopla.

Nearly fell of my chair when I read that.

Surely, Fan is doing us a service by highlighting the problem at Melbourne which is that everybody wants to be a comedian. After all, Chris Connolly poked his head into a meeting one day and cracked a funny. Next thing you know, we're being investigated for match fixing. We were so good at match fixing that we needed an opposition player to goal from 50 after the siren to fix a match one day.

You know the name of the new club song?

"I started a joke" by the Bee Gees!

Lead singer of the Bee Gees?

A recently retired former captain. ha ha ha ....

  3. Thanks to Cam, we have now overtaken Collingwood in media coverage these days. Our sponsors must surely be delighted!

Meanwhile, Marley Williams' victim remains hospitalized and the assault barely warrants a footnote to someone else's main story.

  4. This is a day old so I don't know if it came up elsewhere, but...

Under the heading 'Rivers to become a Cat'. I don't know how reputable the source is, but Rohan Connolly pumps up their tyres on twitter. A bit of a lol beginning the article with 'Melbourne's hellish season continues'. While it'll be sad if he goes, we'll be compensated, and if we had been dead keen to keep him, he wouldn't have been in the death row 11 who werent getting their contracts renewed until after the season, as leaked to the paper in August.

Article is well written and sounds very plausible and reasonable. If this guy walked into the offices of the Australian tomorrow and applied for a sportswriting gig, that Denham fellow would be out of a job in a trice.

Good luck to Riv. He's been a good servant and deserves success. With us, he might find himself on the outer as we employ a youth policy.

  5. Scoop, you've convinced me. I've been keen on getting Dawes across but my one concern was the one you raise with there being no room for Dawes with Clark and Hogan in the forwardline. I think you're right, and surely it has crossed Dawes' mind since the Hogan deal was completed that the very thing that is making him want to leave Collingwood, being effectively replaced, is going to be an issue for him at the MFC before his contract expires at the end of 2014.

If we do keep 20 and use it on a mid though, we still have a gaping cavity at CHF. Can someone who has spent precious hours of their life watching North Melbourne games please inform me as to how much of an upgrade over Sellar Pedersen would be? If he can perform the role semi-adequately and come across for a fourth or fifth rounder, then that's the way I'm leaning now.

Here's an idea. Why not get a bit of weight onto Jack Watts' body and try him in a key forward position. I seem to recall him being drafted four years ago to fill that role.

  6. It's time for T$ closure. It's time for JV to smash him a good one next year, and we can all laugh and move on having dodged the biggest bullet of all time.

I believe that part of the deal finalised today for Hogan and Barry was that Jack Viney must cease and desist from any attempt at tackling, body slams or other violent attacks on the little mongrel until the end of the 2014 season.
