I have thought all along our 2nd rounder next year is a better deal. Not sure why Mahoney ever talked our pick this year unless it was to avoid focus on the issue.

We lost Melksham for a year. The bombers can wait until next year for the Hibberd pick.

Half a chance it ends up a better pick anyway.

But for us we need to get in to this draft and there's every chance an even draft a kid we rated in the top 15 or so gets to 28. Too important to give that up.

This deal suddenly got very interesting

    i wonder what's changed

  2. Putting together odds and ends, am I right in suggesting the rumours are: we are offering ESS our 2017 second round pick for Hibbard in an attempt to become a third party in the Mitchell to Hawthorn trade, by offering them our 2016 second round pick for Jordan Lewis? Perhaps we can find another pick through Dunn/Garland to Bris/GC.

I really don't have a good feeling about the salary caps at those 2 (and other) clubs. I smell a rat and have a feeling in my bones that it will be a story in the future. I think, and it is only my thoughts, that they have found a loophole in the system. I don't buy that so many senior players have taken pay cuts at Hawthorn for example. Its a nice story but I think its more likely that they have been switched to alternate payment methods. You wouldn't do that with a new recruit, only those you know and trust ie: players that have been in the club for a while.

It reminds me of years ago when a Richmond player took the club to task after his promised 'no loose investments" didn't return what they where meant to and they where used as part of the agreement to him to sign.

A lot of those senior Geelong players are canny investors. The most effective MBA  in the country.

That's crazy talk. The only route left to you is to go mind bogglingly speculative. It must, however, end with us picking up Fyfe in the rookie draft. Then, and only then, will you gain the respect of established Demonlanders.

    Challenge accepted:

I regretfully inform you that, according to a 'good' source on bigfooty, Fyfe will be plying his trade at St.Kilda. Apparently, they are willing to trade Billings and their first rounder, to GWS for Patton, in return for that wounded warrior.

only slightly less reliable than the chap who claimed that their are more planes in the sea than submarines in the sky.

How about Dangerfield regretting his decision to go to the Cats, realised his folly and nominates the Dees as his club of choice.

Is this a trade whisper, or you're just making up crap for the sake of it?

Absolutely no truth in my cheeky statement. Just getting into the spirit of trade season. Although, I wouldn't say no to that trade. I have no contacts nor rumours, so,  I shall reign in my enthusiasm.

Actually it's the other way. Barlow is going to tell Jesse how much the flying has hurt his back and affected his rehab after games, not to mention the wasted time involved in flying and getting to and from airports and sleeping in strange hotel beds, every second week of the footy season.

    I'd much prefer your interpretation.

Dee's have been interested in Barlow since middle of the year and have been in dialogue with his management since.

All indications point to him being at the Dee's next year.  Having said that anything can happen in trade week.  I mean who would have thought Wells would have been offered a three year deal at his age and with his history of injuries.

Let's hope it's not a Trojan horse. Barlow getting close to Jesse and convincing him to go back to WA.

I'd be looking to extract a 3 way deal if needed. For eg.

Melbourne give up Jesse Hogan, 2017 2nd, Colin Garland

Melbourne recieve GC pick 4, GC pick 21, Peter Wright

West Coast give up Dom Sheed, Jack Darling, Mark Lecras, pick 30, pick 12

West Coast receive Jesse Hogan, Melb 2017 2nd

Gold Coast give up Peter Wright, pick 4, pick 21

Gold Coast revive Colin Garland, Mark Lecras, Dom Sheed, Jack Darling, pick 12, pick 30, Melb 2017 2nd rounder

    No Nic Nat??

Oh and personally I think J Hogan will be at the Dee's next year. Just a gut feel.  As for the year after who knows.  I'd really consider trading him this year if his intentions are leaning towards not being at the club long term.

Two early picks or one early pick and a good player might get it done.  Having said that we will come out getting unders for him as the draft can be a lottery.  Just look at how many picks we have stuffed up over the years.  We always get [censored] over.

Pitty Freo can't trade next years first round pick, unless they pick up another one that is.  No one talks about WCE but I'm sure they would have their hat in the ring too.

Really hope he stays and signs a five year deal soon.

Darling not firing in finals may prompt them to ask the question.

A Hogan and Kennedy forward line would be disappointing to say the least.

Is this the chap that exposed himself on the internet?

Those are the leadership skills we must be seeking.

I thought internet exposure was a good thing...it may increase members or help us rise up the ladder. Oh! I see ...he 'exposed' himself. My mistake.

I guess the real question to weigh up is How much has he bought to Norf? Best 22, sure. Didn't get any deeper into the finals and restricted junior development. Will bring experience. Leadership? I'm not opposed too it, but, I have reservations.

God, not Essendon, anyone but Essendon. I would almost give away the game. Drug cheating their way to picking up O'Meara for free.

I wonder whether the Doggies will spoil the party. Interest from GC for Lin Jong. Package him up with a draft pick and swap with O'Mera.  Much better option for the Suns, the doggies and leaves the bombers with sweet fa.

  12. Without cross referencing, I thought I read  an article by Jude Bolton on Paul Roos, on the weekend, that said Roos built onfield leadership by not making game day changes, but, allowing the players to stand up and make adjustments in game time. Obviously, this is reviewed and adjusted during the week and allowed to play out on game day. However frustrating this is, I guess this year has been dedicated to leadership development,at the cost of finals experience, to set up Goodwin for next year. I sympathise with the premise of above arguments, but, hope our emerging leaders are the better for it.

I think Freo are a real chance of accepting the deal, but Fyfe is still under contract and has to agree to it - he might come back to Freo and say he wants out, but only to a Vic club.  He doesn't have to go to GC if he doesn't want to.  He might see Prestia leaving, Ablett being in his twilight years and possibly Swallow and O'Meara leaving as well, and not see much of a future up there.

That would be one hell of a midfield if they could keep them all at the club and on the field.
