Now be nice DF they don't have much to celebrate for the rest of the year.

I remember my father calling Australia Day, Sydney's Birthday, once it was set on the 26 January. To me, Australia Day should be on the 1 of January as the founding of Australia was on the 1 January 1901. But I guess there more New South Wales people who like the rest of us celebrating their birthday ๐ŸŽ‚

She is a very exciting player and getting a lot of attention and obviously a lot of opponents don't like it.

Hope you are ok and getting better.

It will soon be six years since my stroke which left me unable to work. Not really getting any better, but not getting any worse either.

Yes she is a great team player who can also score. But she now in the USA team and will be hard for our girls to stop her plays.

You mean Caitlyn Clark and yes she has copped a lot of physical attention on the court without a lot of refereesโ€™ protection.

Yes that is her, my memory is not as good as it was before the stroke.

Hi DF good to see alive and kicking. Yes I am a BB fan but I not into the WNBA much, I am not aware of the problems can you tell us more?

Well you are missing out. More drama the a Melbourne Football Club board room meeting.

The league is currently renegotiating the player salaries and conditions. They offered the players about a four time benefits increase, but the players are turning down the offer. Think the players want a similar deal to the men. Unfortunately for the ladies they don't generate around 11 billion dollars in revenue that the men do. Last season the WNBA lost fifty million dollars, which the NBA had to subsidised. There is talk about a lock out of players this season and maybe the end of the WNBA.

There is a young player that has attracted a lot of attention from the public and sponsors called Cathlain Clark. As a result the attendance at games has significantly increased as well the TV coverage. The league is trying not too promote her, which is weird, and maybe allow other players to physically attack her on field. Little to no protection from the umpires. The old veterans appear to really dislike all the attention she getting.

I think the NBA and WNBA will undergo an investigation by the FBI.

    OD your a basketball fan?

I thought the Melbourne Football Club has been a train wreck ๐Ÿค” lately. But then I have seen what's happening to the WNBA, WOW. The best soap opera I have ever seen. How too destroy a sport in ten stupid moves ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜’ ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜ค ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I am going for a long drive northward in the next few weeks and I intend running over as many of your cousins as I possibly can.

You're still allowed to drive? How is that possible?

Avoid anything red and blue, anything else is fair game ๐ŸŽฏ

  8. Next month the Mighty Black Swans will take on the V in Perth. As a young fella I loved watching the glorious Sandgropers beating the Eastern States teams. I don't have the same feeling when it comes to AFL club football of course. I sure my father was going to disown me when I started to supporting Melbourne. He was not a great supporter of the East. I on the other hand is much more open minded. I do miss the old fella, particularly whenever Melbourne beats the Dockers, my phone calls to him singing "It's a Grand Old Flag" is something I will never forget. Although he did soon stop taking my calls whenever the Dockers lost to Melbourne.

...and we all need to be supportive of this thread. Thank you for rising to the occasion, DF - 71 days without any activity was bordering on terminal ๐Ÿ˜ต

I had to work on my disappointment about both my AFL and WAFL teams recent performances. It can be hard having one eye Red and the other eye Blue at times.

  10. Have I missed anything important while I was on a break from the AFL?

    10 hours ago, Redleg said:

Wow, that must be the longest time the thread has not had a post.

Well done Froggy, you have kept it going.

Anyone know if the girls' team has a coach yet?

I did post a comment as to have I missed anything important but 5he post vanished for some unknown reason ๐Ÿค”

Mrs. Redleg was ill on the weekend with a stomach issue and we ended up spending the night in Emergency at a Hospital.

    All good now.

Guess what she was told to eat, to help avoid future issues, yes BANANAS.

I of course like a good dutiful husband, have joined her in this quest.

    Husbands need to be supportive

The Age article quotes KIng as saying he "cant wait to meet" players coaches etc. And yet he is involved in the Geelong finals campaign so we are, and must all wait.

    Hope communication can be improved

    .

I am very happy with the appointment and dont expect him or the club to reveal the plans, strategies, programs, Etc that he will bring. I will certainly judge him on results and hope he can get the results from our list that is possible. Strength and confidence are two issues that must be addressed.

We had to wait for the new CEO, so why not also wait for the new Senior Coach?

IMO our new appointments don't seem to prioritise Melbourne. But I guess the 2026 AFL season will show if the right decisions ๐Ÿค” have been made.

You also got your "no C$&!(# people" wish ... ๐Ÿคฃ

True, I wanted Goodwin gone. In my view we needed new leadership. But now I worried we are about to get more ex Collingwood staff. That never ends well for us.

  14. 1 hour ago, Redleg said:

Not sure about discounting someone from another club for that reason alone.

That discounts 17-18ths of the available candidates to clubs for Coaching appointments.

The Pies last 3 flags were Coached by non Pies people, who would have hated them when they played at their clubs.

As long as the new coach doesn't come from either Collingwood or Essendon, I don't really care about their previous club associations.

As regards to Collingwood, I give you Mark Needle. IMO nothing more needs to be said.

He was one free kick or missed kick by Sheed from being a Premiership Coach.

Ross Lyon has had three stints and is so far unsuccessful. Is he a good Coach? Bevo has won one flag, when everything went his way, especially including the umpiring in one year and has failed with good player lists every other year, is he a successful Coach. Fagan has one flag with a team full of stars and multiple benefits provided to his club, is he a successful Coach?

Longmire and Simmo each only had one flag and many failures, are they successful Coaches?

Not sure there are that many successful Coaches available, other than maybe Sheedy, Pagan and Malthouse.

    You make some good points

Playing a Grandfinal against the Eagles on Collingwood's home ground must be worth a three or four goal headstart! That one of the major advantages the Melbourne based AFL teams has in winning a premiership. As a Melbourne supporter I can accept this advantage, although Melbourne has not won a premiership at the G in the past 61 seasons. But that another issue.

Buckley's biggest claim to fan was he lost a Grandfinal by under a goal. Well in football there is no prizes for coming second, it's winner takes all.

The same argument could be made about the Eagles having an extra free kick in front of goals or a point becomes a goal, then they win by 12 or more points. It's football, there is a certain amount of luck involved in the outcome. Fortune favours the brave.

I just a simple country boy from the West, who wants Melbourne to win every Grandfinal it can. I can't see that happening if we recruit more coaches etc. from Collingwood, particularly Nathan Buckley who is a rusted on Collingwood supporter. IMO Collingwood underperformed during his time as their head coach, that's why they got rid of him.

Real success in the AFL is the number of premierships a club/coach/player can win. Unfortunately, Melbourne has only won one premiership in the past 61 seasons. However, I feel the Melbourne board considers success as playing finals football, that is why we are looking for a new head coach.

  16. So we are interviewing six candidates for our Senior Coach, one of the candidates is Nathan Buckley. The club wants someone with atleast eight years experience at a state league or AFL level.

It appears the club is not looking for successful coaches as they are interviewing Nathan Buckley ๐Ÿค” He only ever lost a Grandfinal to the Eagles. Our recent track record with recruitment from Collingwood has been a disaster ๐Ÿ˜•

I starting to feel this is another John Todd moment to me.

I feel somewhat ashamed to reveal this, but I have had matcha lattes in the last few days, as I heard matcha possesses several health benefits.

I have not forsaken the banana, as it holds a scared place in my daily life, but I have broadened my horizons somewhat and will now wait to see if the mooted benefits of matcha are in fact true.

One day you accept Mactcha Drinks instead of Banana based ones, next thing you're a Collingwood supporter. Once you start down the dark side you don't know where it will end. It's better to stay in the light and not listen to others who are peddling misinformation.
