I wonder if to get rid of the salary cap pressures the power would be willing to entertain young master Wines moving to the Dees in exchange for a couple of good picks, maybe picks 5 and 23 for Wines and a later pick
Currently in bali and by chance met up with Ollie and a few other port lads. Really nice guy, very humble young lad. Meeting up with him again tomorrow as well as a few melbourne boys, lll see if he is keen to move back to Melbourne any time soon

We seem to be very quite in this upcoming trade period when we still need to be active we may not land a superstar but more depth is still needed who have we been linked to???
In all honesty, how would you know what is going on? Because you don't pick the Herald sun up and see on the back page "Dees offer treloar 5mil"?
Is that what you base it off?

“Rohan Bail, Dean Terlich, Jake Spencer and Matt Jones have continued to play well for Casey Scorpions and are in the mix for the final side, which will be finalised after Friday’s - See more at: http://m.melbournefc.com.au/season/team-announcement#sthash.HRviSHFx.dpufReally? All of these are due to be delisted. In fact we should have delisted them already, Where is the pride in MFC? Get some elite top level players into the greatest football club in the world and get rid of these spuds!!!!!!
Should roos and Goodwin go and pick the elite top level talent off the elite top level talent growing tree that grows in the gardens at elite top level talent street, in elite top level talentville?

Extremely difficult to become A Grade if you lack pace and can't go either side like a slow Sam Mitchell can to get out of trouble. GWS knew which one to let go. Too left sided, too slow, very average foot skills even on preferred side, and obviously never had to hand ball the thing growing up as very poor by hand, no right hand at all.
Terrific post. You sure can pick them. Where were you last year to critique him after averaging 24 disposals, 11 brownlow votes and averaging 3.4 tackles a game? Muppet.

I am sure the club tried but that is why I was so keen to give up pick 2 or 3 for an established midfielder. There is nothing like exposed form to lessen the risk when bringing new players into the club. Even though Tyson has few games under his belt, he showed enough to suggest that he could make it in the big league.
There should be few surprises with Lumumba and Gartlett - we know what we are getting. I recall we all got excited when we got a father/son selection of another dashing wingman turned back pocket in Chris Johnson. Lets hope the young Stretch has more of his father in him than Chris Johnson did.
100%. It would be interesting to hear just what offers the club actually recieved/asked on regards to pick 2 and 3. Had clubs known st kilda was to take McCartin would this have changed.
I wonder how unfortunate the club would have been had the current F/S bidding system been in place for Chris Johnson, and what we would have given up. Young Stretch already has the exposed form at sanfl level that matches his work ethic and wiling Ness to improve to suggest he could play a lot of games for the club, but again, we've been burn by that hope too!

I would caution anyone to suggest that any draft pick is a win until there some runs on the board.
I am cautiously optimistic with the current draft picks with caution being the operative word.
Many first round draft picks notoriously do not live up to their footage. This is not just a syndrome that has befallen our club but all clubs - unfortunately our club has had failed draft picks more than most.
Sorry Angus, but pick 3 has been particularly bad with the only true star being Judd. Dusty is very good - Griffin - great and poor. Here is my optimism - we may have the best no 3 at our club since Judd - and that is Tyson.
Apologies, I meant it more as we have a face to the name, instead of pick 3. I'm not sure any melbourne supporter could possibly claim a draft pick a win after seasons gone by.
I do agree with your point however, and the signs early of Dom Tyson do look encouraging. For his first real season to maintain such a high level most the way through the season was very impressive. If we could get half that input from Petra cc a and brayshaw this year, you would be very positive about the future.

RE-read the Frawley thread again and tell me if you would still like to maintain this position.
edit - interesting thread - read the first five pages...then go to the middle of the thread...then go to the end of the thread. He apparently was much required at the beginning of the thread - by the middle when he still hadn't signed there was great shift and many suggested that we would be better off without him and by the end he was no loss at all.
There was some support that pick 3 made him going worthwhile but I beleive that many of the negative views of him were coloured because he refused to re-sign and the expectation was that he was going.
Would be interesting to see the link between those changing views of Frawley, against his output on field as the year progressed.
As it stands, he left to chase his personal dreams of an afl premiership, we were handsomely rewarded and allowed us to take the player titled in this thread, along with Angus brayshaw.
Now that we have seen footage of our compensation, it's fair to say this has turned into a win-win situation for club and player. I suspect this, along with the Dom Tyson trade, prove that in the current climate, there can be multiple winners arising from free agency/ trading and perhaps we all need to relax if we face with the same scenario again in seasons coming.
Unless it's nathan Jones. A club can not afford to lose a player more so than Jones and Melbourne. However I don't see that being an issue.

I still can't understand why we didn't take Templeton at pick 2 in the rookie draft.
Jayden Hunt might have been the smokey and the questionable call (straight onto the senior list) but to then pluck another player out of obscurity over Eli yet again in the rookie draft?
There's been very little said about Hunt or Harmes since being drafted whereas Templeton has already played 6 games and kicked 4 goals in the big time.
I'd prefer not to harbour spots on either of the lists for long-term prospects, it's a luxury this club can't afford right now.
What? Dont you read the vfl review? Harmes had a 30 disposal game only a few weeks ago and has been tracking nicely in the muddy conditions in previous weeks. The club almost certainly got that pick right. Even if we picked templeton, chamces are he wohld be developing in the vfl in the same way as our guys are now. We arent in a situation like st kilda where we have to play first year players. We are in a position where we have reasonable depth but they needed to know how to play.
Templeton wasnt the answer last year and i think harmes and hunt have been coming along nicely

Having looked at both side in Carlton and Collingwood I find it hard to see the Pies winning tonight.
The pies have been hit big time with injuries.
I feel a very small pang for them.
Blues tonight for me.
Sad to say it Redleg but they are eight bound.
Pies to miss.
I always think that about collingwood old dee! Just when you think they are stuffed, Dwyer or Elliot or josh Thomas play out of their skin, and Dane Swan has 67 disposals and Heath shaw blocks everything! Hate them but geez they run deep! Hopefully it's a draw and 85,000 go home frustrated!
Delistings/trades at end of the season

Sorry for the typoday all. This is a very drunken message from bali. But I will tell you what I heard tonight. Ollie wines had his heart set on coming to Melbourne. Todd viney rang him 2 days our from the draft to tell him we were not going to pick him. Basically was told we wanted to pick him but we're not sure if we could let Toumpas slide. Ollie was gutted at the time amd for 18 months after. He won't leave port for anyone now as in his words it turned out for the best for him. I can not answer if it was Todd or neeld who said let him slide, my understanding is it was neeld as Todd called Ollie to tell him prior to the draft. The rumour out of port adelaide is they do not expect Hamish hartlett to play there in 2016. He didn't turn up for the footy trip, apparently we offered a huge deal amd if it isn't us, it is sydney.
Ollie knows Jimmy Toumpas from underage level and he said Jimmy will be a seasoned afl player. As much as he initially hated not being picked by us, he understands that politics played there part, but I gathered that he won't leave port adelaide period. To.orrow the melbourne players arrive,
Sorry for typo. I'm drunk. But that's all I can give for now
