I'm surprised when seasoned footy supporters build up draft picks in preseason only to be disappointed when 18yo fail to dominate in adult competition.

I doubt this year will be any different. I reckon if you'd read Abletts crits in his first few years they would have expressed the same views.

Jimmy Bartel wrote an article discussing this exact thing. Everyone sees a Selwood or Judd come in and dominate from the start and think if an 18yo doesn't come in and do then they are no good. It's crap and I feel sorry for some of these kids that those players have put the pressure on them. Just let them play and get a feel for the game.

Tell me one squib who is no longer a squib in the AFL? Bryce Gibbs was a squib when he was drafted, still is. And prime example was Cale Morton. Don't kid yourself, this is ingrained in him

Gary Ablett Jnr squibbed a contest very early in his career would you call him a squib now?

Having seen a photo of him today playing aginst the Cats he seems to be getting a lot bigger already and he looks very strong through the legs and hips which is a very good thing (see Ablett jr). I personally think he has the potential to be as damaging as a Griffen or Dangerfield once he gets more power through his legs. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a dramatic rise in his output next season similar to Chad Wingard this year. Very excited about this one though don't want to jinx him.

I remember years ago in Abletts first or second season he ducked his head when going for a mark in a final on the big stage. I remember it well as my Dad stated "he will never be as good as his old man he lacks courage'. Well he was very wrong about that and it goes to show one or two mistakes as a youngster has little bearing on how they will turn out. I think he will be a beauty in time.

If you're not happy with the onfield performance of this team, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. The 3 of you have enough talent and all should be leaders of this club, you have enough ability to work together and turn games around, it's time you stood up. So you can go to another Club, possibly make their best 22 knowing there are blokes in the team that are willing to work their arse off meaning you don't have to? I was thinking the exact same thing. All this talk of players leaving to play finals what a cop out. If they aren't good enough to help lift a side to a finals series then really they don't deserve a premiership. It happened with Gibson at the Roos as well and I hope they don't win this year just to laugh that he never won one.
