Got nothing to do with it when ridiculous statements are made.

Neeld was a dud coach but he had no problem bringing players with him.

No, really. You have the rest of Demonland to be unerringly negative.

  2. We have a reasonable record against this mob under Roosy. One great win and a reasonable defeat where we kicked ourselves out of it - both over there.

I reckon we can take it right up them - should be a ripper. A win keeps our slim finals hopes alive.

Dawes came over within half an hour of Neeld signing.

I don't want Goodwin to be mates with players. That causes division.

He must have full respect from all players

    Do what i say.

Please read the thread title SWYL.

There always has been a number of kids out of this area, Ovens and Murray and the Riverina are very strong AFL areas.  What I have heard from people in that region, any kid that even looks like they have any ability GWS are signing to the academy.

I also know that Victorian AFL clubs are getting set for their own zoned academies, with a few client hosting academy talent identification camps for kids 11-15yo over the school holidays.  I reckon by the end of this year clubs all clubs will have these set up.

I know a young bloke from Mildura who went to the GWS academy. He now plays Irymple twos.

REVISION (I'm sure nobody cares, but it was bugging me):

    With PA and Collingwood:
    Out: Howe, Toumpas
    In: Kennedy, 29, 50

    Which enabled the GC trade:
    Out: 6, 29, R1 2016
    In: 3, 10

    Which enabled the GWS trade:
    Out: 10, 43, 64
    In: Bugg, 7

Netting off the final results, also excluding the zero-value pick we traded out [64], I think it was this:
Out: Howe, Toumpas, 6 [Ah Chee], R1 2016
In: Kennedy, Bugg, 3 [Oliver], 7 [Weideman], 50 [Hulett].

That really is an awesome trading period.

It's also possible that St Kilda are slightly ahead, but on the same trajectory as us: because they actually stepped up a gear when a top 8 team hit their best form in the third and fourth quarter, but held and on found a way to win in a very mature fashion. I'd like to see us do that as well as beating the Saints, before declaring us the same.

Just like we did in the last quarter against GWS when Hogan kicked 3 after a pretty ordinary day and Watts flicked the switch.

Nah, but it was just cos GWS didn't kick straight.

Ralph has said on the Fox Footy post match that Hibberd is a "better than average" chance of ending up at Melbourne.

Chuffed if we get him. He'll make us a better side.

Footy journos can barely speak English. What does "better than average" mean? Average of what?

And yeah, I echo the sentiment that questions need to be asked about how far we are moving forward as a club. Barring GWS, we are yet to defeat any team above us on the ladder and we're still yet to defeat any team we didn't already defeat last year.

In Roos' tenure we've never defeated West Coast, Port Adelaide, Fremantle, Hawthorn, Sydney, St Kilda or North Melbourne. It's time for these shitstain records to die, especially when many of these teams are thoroughly mediocre.

Don't know why people keep discounting this result. GWS are awesome and we've beaten them the last two times we've played them.

Apart from all the times we beat top sides, we never beat top sides...

St Kilda have officially overtaken us as a club.

Although it's arguable they were never behind us considering they keep beating us and we've only been 1 spot above them on the ladder the last 2 years.

Great win by the Saints by finally taking a massive scalp.

Yeah, we would never beat Geelong.

    Oh...

  10. Dees are looking good. 6-8 blokes that could be champions and the rest seem like they're being trained to play the right way and be good role players.

Financially we seem to be in a good spot, membership slowly creeping up, match attendances pretty good, sponsorship reasonable. Would love PJ to stay forever but if and when he does leave, I'm sure he'll have a solid succession plan in place.

We definitely could still make the finals. It's unlikely, but it's possible. OMG I would love that so much - every time I think about it I get goosebumps! I have this vision that we'll be playing GWS away in the first final and twenty thousand Melbourne supporters will de-camp to Sydney Showgrounds to show those pretenders what history and passion really means!

Harsh but fair. He was just below the elite in those positions

told me himself that he played a shocker in the 2000 GF

    That's the day to shine

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure he's listed in the best for the 2000 GF. Kicked 2.3 including two bad misses in the first quarter. Was killing Fletcher early but wasn't making him pay because he missed those two shots.

Would've been quite a good game had he:

    1) kicked straight

    2) knocked someone's head off

Agree we over rank our players

it is understandable, but also an indicment that we haven't had a truly elite player since R. Flower

(G Lyon was mighty close as was B Wilson)

Harsh on Neita - all Australian in two different key positions, Coleman medal winner and grand final captain.

  13. I reckon you're elite if you're in the top 10% in your position. I reckon the following players are elite:

    Gawn

    Viney

I reckon the following players have the potential to be elite:

    Brayshaw

    Oliver

    Hogan

    McDonald

    Petracca

I reckon the following players have a slight chance of being elite:

    Salem

    Tyson

I think Vince and Jones are on the next rung down from being elite. B+.

I reckon if you're elite for a number of years in a row, you become a champion. And I reckon you need 6 champions to win a flag.

The worst form of misogyny is to kill a woman in hate. To make a vitriolic joke (or what you call "off colour humour") about a group of men violently killing a woman is casual misogyny against that woman. It's more than just dislike. If he simply disliked her he might've said he wanted to be the person to push her down the slide.

Have you read about the horrible gang rape of a 14yo in Geelong by a group of brothers last year who joked about it during and afterwards? When asked how old she was they joked they would need to buy her some new Dora the Explorer undies. An extreme and heinous case yes, and absolutely no where near what Team Eddie said, but disrespect towards women breeds hate, whether it's against one woman or all, even if it's wrapped up as a joke.

There's a link on my reply Ricky that might inform you a bit further about the link between disrespect for women and domestic violence. Also, there was an informative YouTube clip someone posted on p1 or 2 of this thread. I would advise you to become informed before you compare me to being guilty of "misogyny, sexism, racism and homophobia".

If you still need a "persuasive argument", percentages or "teasing out of the dynamic" to convince you, I respectfully suggest it will never happen.

However I fully agree with your last sentence.

Para 1 - Nope, misogyny is killing a woman because you hate women. You can kill a woman and not hate women. In this instance, you are not a misogynist. Same applies to jokes about the subject.

Para 2 - My argument is that jokes don't have a substantive impact on the level of domestic violence in society. No-one commits an act of domestic violence because they heard a joke about it. Your example is a story about rapists making jokes about rape during and after committing a rape. It doesn't address my argument in the slightest.

Para 3 - I already clicked on your link to the government's website. In my initial post I mentioned that I didn't agree with the government's view on this. A link to a website containing material I had already found to be unconvincing is hardly likely to make me change my mind. If the link between jokes and domestic violence is so clear then I'm surprised you can't outline it yourself instead of referring me to third party material.

As I've been saying all day, the notion that off-colour jokes have caused or enabled a single case of domestic violence to take place is laughable.
