Paddy McCartin is effectively delisted by St Kilda. Do you guys think we should recruit him for 2021 season. Seems to be over his concussion issues and wants to continue playing. Only 24 years of age.

Maybe Richardson should have some input on that matter.

BUT only if the Demons change their game style and kick inside 50 more accurately.

49 inside 50's for 8 Goals is deplorable.

McCartin could add versatility and we could swing T Mc back to CHB

    No

I'm not being smarty pants but i woulkd have thought the reason is clear. They wanted Jackson and ran the risk of not getting him if GWS called our bluff and letr us have Green.

A secondary reason would be as good as Green might be we have plenty of inside bulls and no athletic freaks capable of playing as mid, forward and

Seems obvious that they tipped their hand when they made the pick swaps with Adelaide, and the odds of them passing were tiny. If they did pass then we get one of the top mids in the draft who can impact next year instead of a developing ruckman who maybe able to become a mid and who maybe could play forward but will most likely be playing at Casey next year.

scroll most of the way to the bottom where it talks about players with less than 7years experience

"the player is a free agent and is eligible to field offers from rival AFL clubs...

The player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice"

Seems like we can low ball them and if nothing works out then gc get no compo and we can just approach the kid directly.

Getting caddy for no loss of draft picks = winning

  4. You do realise that you are using his 2012 average where he played 5 games, 4 of them as a sub, and averaged less than 50 % game time for the year after he played 93% game time in one game against st kilda.

Secondly he was rated around top 10 in his year, so offering up pick 30-50 would be a steal for it in a draft where the depth is pretty average.

Thirdly he didn't get as good run this season as he told goldcoast earlier in the year that he was looking at moving back to Melbourne and he did not sign the contract offer from the goldcoast.

I don't see how wanting to come home is the sign of a poor football player?

    And I don't get how you don't see value in a pick 30-50 instead of a player ranked 30th - 50th.

How is it a waste of a pick?

morton was highly rated as a juniour, taken 4 in the draft...howd he turn out?

Caddy told gc last year he wanted out, still got plenty of game time

Mitch Clark wanted to go home.

    Was he mentally fragile?

He also was quite emotional about Jimmy passing.

It seems that emotional fragility is either a bad thing or completely ignored when it doesn't help your point.

clark was still able to perform, toy hasn't...don't rate the comparison

  5. I made no comment about his ability, but rather how stupid your post was about homesickness being similar to playing an away match.

Secondly his dad passed away late in 2008.

Thirdly I never said anything about giving up players or draft picks

If we give up a draft pick it would be pick 30-50, 3rd round pick similar to Cheney! And personally I think it would be a steal, he just needs a proper go, and he could well add the disposal and outside possession we need off our half back line.

how else would we get him if not with picks or players?

You do realise he has played 13 games for an avg 1.4 kicks and 2.2 handballs? How is wasting a pick, even a 3rd rnd, a good idea? We would be better off keeping morton!

If he is THAT homesick then my original comments regarding his mental fragility stand

  6. There are just as many players over the years who have been flops as well as guns within the Top 10, so it's not better to assume at all. If the price is right, and only if it's right, we should take him. Your belief that taking a punt on a player this year is flawed.

    good inside mids- jones

plodder inside mids- bate, gysberts, mckenzie, trengove

    good outside mids-

plodder outside mids- bail, grimes, jetta, davey

The introduction of viney will help the cause of the inside mids.

I have faith that grimes, trengove and mckenzie will all take a massive step up next year but our glaring black hole in the middle is our run and spread.

I think it much more important to address the need for sp...pace as a higher priority than another plodder inside mid whose only real currency seems based on his conditioning after 2 extra years in the system. is this not why we got the guru misson on our books?

if we give up one of our first rnd picks for caddy i will be bitterly bitterly disapointed.

maybe bundle caddy and charlie dixon together for our pick 13 and troy davis but thats only because charlie dixon is a beast and we are also in desperate need of tall forwards

  7. But then the same thing could have been said two years ago - "Why all the love for player X? I'd rather go for Caddy, loved his videos, he looks the goods, make him a Demon!!"

None of the above players would be certainties to make it. No-one ever is really. I'd rather take a kid with two years in the system (for the right price) than gambling on another young kid. Caddy hasn't set the world alight, you are right on that, but everyone knows he has some serious footballing talent. He just needs the right club to bring it out.

but caddy hasn't PROVEN anything to suggest he will turn out any better than the many talented kids i would take ahead of him. only that he has had 2more years in an afl level gym course.

The right price ON HIS FORM is a 2nd round draft pick...hell, luke ball went in the 2nd round to the magpies. surely your not suggesting that caddy's value is higher than that?

  8. Your an idiot, homesickness is not based around one week of interstate travel but rather living away from family for 2 years, he only gets to see them every so often! A weekend away playing doesn't make him homesick.

It's pretty hard to deal with your dads death while away from family basically 24/7

His father that died in 2007? if you are having troubles 4 years later then take bereavement leave until you have come to terms with it, any club would understand...i am judging his onfield performances and if you step onto the field you are 100%

i'm guessing you saw plenty of his u/18 games and fell in love...he might make it, i certainly don't wish him any harm, but getting him in the PSD or rookie draft is much more befitting his PERFORMANCE as an AFL PLAYER and he has not shown enough at the AFL level to warrant giving up players or picks. Especially when there are massive question marks regarding conditioning which in turn raises questions about his self discipline

What a down right stupid comment!

Why compare living permanently away from friends and family to 4 days away.

    Don't rush to re-post.

please mate, i moved to the gold coast from melbourne as a 16 year old, knowing not a single person. yeah i left behind family and mates but i made new friends that i now call brothers. people who i have shed sweat blood and tears with, people who kept me off the streets and shared nights in the watchhouse with...and i certainly didn't have the kind of support network that an AFL footy club provides. if he was unable to make new friends it speaks volumes about him as a person

  9. We need people who are going to rock the boat culture wise at the mfc.

Josh Toy is obviously not mentaly tough enough for the sport if he gets homesick living on the gc...what happens when we have to play in WA? Does he only make himself available for home games?

Josh Caddy...PSD or hope we get a 2nd round FAcompo pick otherwise no dice

  10. I've said it before and I'll say it again...using pick 13 for this kid would be overs.

At this stage our inside mids will consist of jordie, jones, gys, magner, couch (viney).

Our outside mids are bail and...nicho? blease?

If we trade pick 13 and gc pick up kennedy it will be a bigger stuff up than cook v darling.

  11. I don't know if I want Caddy if we lose Pick 13.

But who knows what the stakes are...

considering this years draft prospects pick 13 is massive overs...

2nd round FA compo pick+ davis (decent bodied defender) for caddy could be be worth looking at

but if west coast are willing to take that pick+ jetta (quick small fwd) for koby stevens i would probably take the latter

  12. Don't see the wraps on caddy...will be a serviceable mid but not worth the overs to be asked

don't see the wraps on cloke...good contested mark, woeful set shot and is obviously not a team player (on or off field) and not worth the overs to be asked.

And as for Gumbleton ... well I haven't really seen him play more than a handful of games, ever.

Would rather gamble on drafting quick mids at the top and maybe some rebounders at the back end

  13. we should be focussing on using pick 13 on a type of player we really need. a speedy, talented player like ben kennedy or dayle garlett would be far more beneficial than another inside mid, we will be getting viney for that job

Really like the sound of kennedy if the reports are accurate

  14. Since this is a 'super draft' and the general consensus is that the top 20 is stocked with really talented midfielders would we mot be better off using our pick 13 on a mayes/o rourke/stringer and then backing our apparently bona fide fitness guru get them into shape.

This new fd is charged with restarting club culture from basically scratch, would love it if we became a club known for taking raw talent and developing it in house rather than shopping around.

Caddy is just looking to transfer to a zip code rather than our club, and a draftee may well show more loyalty and passion in the vein of jordie mckenzie

  15. Robbo was a really bad kick at goal for a couple of years before he got his action correct. Admittadly goal kicking is not field kicking but IIRC Robbo came off a low base and became quite a good shot.

    the comparisons with howe continue

  16. Jones V Evans has been in the works for a while but postponed because of injuries etc. Not sure it would matter if Jones still held the belt, so the result of the Machida fight is probably irrelevant as long as no long term injury is sustained.

having said all that the fight card i suggested is only rumoured at this stage and i have my doubts about Jones V Evans in australia, but apparently Kampmann v Alves is virtually locked in. The U.F.C really want to make sure they give us a great card as a show of respect for the turn-outs to the past 2 events here. i also think it's time for us to get a title fight if possible.

evans v davis jan 28 (ufc on Fox 2)

same card: sonnen v munoz (potential no.1 contender fight)

    should be good card

  17. Like OD, I havn't been totally convinced by Evans. He certainly showed us that he can get the ball, but can he use it (?) that's my question. I know a few people at the Club are quite positive however. My tips are Tomy Mac (based on the training reports) with Kel Lawrence as a 'smokey'. We are screaming out for a small crumbing forward with pace and decent tackling skills, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's getting games by the end of 2012.

theres alot of chatter on here about lawrence on here, where does the excitement come from? can't really

remember seeing his name in the best for casey, he's not another 180-190cm skinny "strong overhead" type is he?
