  1. I was fortunate to know Geoff in the early sixties after he returned to play footy and cricket for the Ballarat footy/cricket clubs.

A gentleman in every sense of the word yet competitive and brave on the field.

Respected by his students at Ballarat Grammar School.

Not huge in stature, he regularly took on bigger men at CHF for Ballarat and gave them a lesson.

    RIP Tunna.

Sad news for ET no doubt.

  2. I didn't see it but if the only difference is 4-game sets rather than 6 games, I can't see what the appeal will be, particularly if as TD says some matches still go for 2+ hours.

T20 is successful not just because its shorter, but because it's a different product to 50over cricket - in tactics, execution, wow factor and all the gimmicks.

Other than time, what distinguishes fast4tennis from normal tennis?

There are a number of time saving factors other than the game reduction Grapeviney, the main ones are -

No advantage scores after deuce, sudden death point decides the game.

Tie breaker after score reaches 3 all which is first to 5 points.

No sitting down at change of ends with maximum 60 secs between games.

  3. So I have to ask.

Did anyone watch that abomination called fast 4 tennis on monday night?

Didn't mind it as I find long drawn out 5 setters a tad boring.

The purists will dislike it in the same manner as traditional cricket lovers don't appreciate 20/20.

Whilst on tennis, Sam Stosur is a concern as she continues to blow opportunities.

  4. Haha, clearly not a Heat fan gs?

Was a weird match last night. Didn't think a team would ahve so much trouble chasing 81 for victory.

Pattinson's 2nd ball of the match to bowl Burns was an absolute jaffa! Nothing Burns could do.

Yeah mate, stems from being a passionate Victorian living in Queensland - nothing too serious.

The grief the locals gave me after they started to dominate the Shield comp after years in the wilderness was pitiful.

I'm a huge Burns fan and don't mind a few of the others, Young Alistair McDermott was my next door neighbour for several years during his tertiary schooling, nice fella.

Isn't it great to see Pattinson and Cummins on the comeback trail ?

  5. Went down to training at Maroochy this morning and jotted down a few observations. I'll be able to get down to all the footy sessions if anyone has something particular they want to know.

    * Kent, Terlich & Spencer doing intervals separate to main group. Later Riley running laps by himself.

    * Overcast & a bit wet under foot (fair bit of rain lately) but doesn't take long to dry up.

    * Fair bit of match simulation focusing on forward entries from the back half. Viney & Frost getting praised for their decision making & disposal.

    * Jimmy Plunkett from Leading Teams working exclusively with the Dees I think. Nice guy

    * Hogan like a caged lion wanting to rip apart his prey. Got a nice confidence streak/ swagger about him.

    * Toumpas getting a bit of kicking responsibility from the back half. Can't fault his kicking. I think he is becoming a Roosy favorite.

    * Dunn positioning himself for more leadership responsibility this year perhaps - very vocal. Just a hunch.

    * Guys looking a bit tired. Maybe the heat? I think they had been at it for an hour or two before I turned up based on the comments from Jones on website.

    * Noticeable compared to previous training/ coaches that there seem to be less standouts and more of an even spread across the Board. Similar to what others have observed - Sydney-esk?

    * Hate to say it but Crossy is looking a tad old. One last push?

    * Didn't notice Roosy much at first compared to other coaches. Not as egotistical. That seems to rub off on the players. There not as on edge about everything. Not quite as much fig-jam going around.

    * Watts is looking fit, lean and toned. Not lacking any confidence the young fella.

    * Weren't getting a drill right at one stage (I think) and Roosy made the point of moving to another oval to get it right.

    * Finished off with some games play. Seeing which team can kick from one end to the next finishing with a goal.

    * Progressed from Torps to Torps on the non preferred to drop kicks on the non preferred and wound up with a netball ring shoot out. Lumumba and Garlett surprisingly can stroke it alright.

Still trying to perfect the photo gig so I'll see if can get a few good ones for you guys over the next few days.

Keep it coming RB and thanks.

  6. First post. Getting the impression of a well run professional club. An administration that supports the football department, no off-field issues or media stories, head coach clearly in charge who commands total respect and who delegates to his staff, strong focus on development, well organised training programs, players seeing improvement in fitness and skills. There seems to be better organisation and method. Also greatly improved list. It has been a long time coming. Yet to be seen that this translates into results but clear improvement seen. Encouraging signs.

Welcome Hemmo, we can use positive posters' around here :).

  7. Meanwhile did anyone see the West Indies World Cup Squad? No Dwayne Bravo or Pollard.

    http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/content/story/819677.html

I tell you what, their first match in the World Cup is against Ireland. They could very well loose that match and miss the quarter finals.

A sad state of affairs for a once great cricketing nation.

Victimised because of the stance they took during the player pay/contract dispute.

Administrators having the last say to the detriment of West Indian cricket.

Chris Gayle has tweeted his discontent.

  8. I heard this on the radio late last year, Clark has done the opposite to Moloney. He's gone from Brisbane to Melbourne to Geelong (Monoley did the oppositie order). What does this have to do with anything? Nothing, but I found it interesting.

Moloney didn't shaft a third club on the way through.

  9. His tweets about getting behind the cats and the fans down there in Geelong, actually make me feel sick.....no time for this bloke.

The very same tweets I was reading this time last year "can't wait to get out there with the boys" etc.

    Insincere and sickening.

  10. This one has been really hard to watch, glad in back at work. Big Mitch is very hard to replace as a spectacle. Flat tracks, yawn.

All the same we missed 4 chances today that I saw and had Smith not dropped Kohli at 2nd slip off Starc when he was 59 we would probably be batting again.

    Watson was terrific today.

There are a few roughies, a few lemons a glasscock and a cockatoo in there. I didn't know Peter Garrett played footy and a couple of damn good footballers.

You missed Max Hislop 1915 and Ken Levey 1943.

  12. wouldn't be the first boxer who got dudded, smithy

I used to follow the game when I was younger and was a Ron Casey fan.

I remember listening to the Famechon/Legra and Rose/Harada victories on 3LO.

Suspect the game has always been crooked, just like racing.

  13. 0/123 at lunch, could be a massacre here, the Indian fielding has been very poor with young Rahul the worst offender allowing 2 chances to go begging.

Aussies have made the most of their chances as well as receiving the rub of the green.
