  1. Maxwell was another surprise selection - he, like Mitchell Marsh & Watson should be vying for the one spot - the no.6 all rounders spot. Not sure there's room for 2 of these type of players in the test side unless both are exceptionally good. It's one of the reasons that I've picked Marsh over Watson. If both play then where do both bat if Clarke & Smith occupy the no.4 & no.5 spots?

Considering that Hughes was in the squad I would have played him in the 2nd test against Pakistan instead of playing Maxwell - Maxwell is at best a no.6 and we already had Marsh batting in the no.6 spot (Maxwell didn't play in the first test whilst Marsh did)

Maxwell batting in the 3 spot was quite a surprise. Again, the selectors will continue to make surprise moves and those moves don't always make a lot of sense. What many may not know is that the captain picks the batting order but what else was Clarke to do when considering the team he was handed?

Hughes was next cab off the rank and he should have played if Doolan was going to be dropped. Horses for courses. Again, I would have taken another young top order player on the tour and blooded him if need be.

I see Boof is suggesting that Marsh and Watson could both play.

I would prefer to see Watson at three in preference to Doolan leaving Marsh at 6 as he has a future imo.

  2. Horses are magnificent animals and I for one was upset with today's events as I was in 1979 when another cup favourite died during the running, the mighty Dulcify.

Stupid comment Bernie but not a hanging offence.

  3. Im away working ATM - but kept an eye on the cricket. Did you see Younis's efforts. Went for 46 in final dig - pretty good after peeling off twin centuries than a double. Equalled Sir Len H they say.

Outstanding batting from Shehzad, Ali, Misbah and Khan although our attack was pedestrian.

I'll be at the Gabba for India on days 2 & 3.

  4. Unfortunately no, was never a Dees supporter.

A bloody Lion supporter, went up there ten years ago ( approx. ) and jumped on when the amalgamated with the Roys.

You mean he has to suffer all those uneducated Lion supporters ? Poor chap, no disrespect.

We may need to have an ale at the Gabba/Metricon in 2016.

The AFL can't rape us 3 years in a row.

  5. ... and this series was originally meant to be played over 3 tests ^_^ Comprehensively beaten and I'm not sure we can take anything out of the series other than Mitch Marsh showed a bit.

It's going to be interesting to see the make-up of the 11 for the first Test against India. Question marks surround the 2 seamers to support Johnson and ... the make up of the batting - who bats at no.3? Does Rogers stay as an opener? Marsh over Watson or maybe both play? I'd go with one of them only but we need to find a no.3. Not sure Doolan is the answer but he might be persevered with.

Anyway, you'll all be "pleased" to see that the t20 internationals are next - in 2 days time!!

Yep, that's right, we play South Africa on Wednesday night in the first of 3 x t20 games. Then it's 5 ODI's against the Proteas before India arrive for 4 Tests.

Not pleased at all Macca, 20/20 is shite cricket and one of the reasons some of our guys have forgotten the basics.

We were comprehensively out played yet nothing went our way.

Fielding cost us dearly, still spewin' about Siddle dropping a sitter before Misbah had scored.

  6. Fantastic to see Misbah's innings. I never thought we'd win this series but I don't think we should be taking too much out of it.

These conditions won't be faced very often. Although this is the case, we really, REALLY need to work on playing spin bowling. Steve Smith is the only player that looks relatively comfortable facing Babar, Shah and Hafeez.

My point exactly, we should be learning.

  7. hi Guys and Gals

Three things to mention to you.. some will apply to you all and some to just the Queensland residents so please take from it what you will.

    1) Voting - As we have lost Chip ( big surprise there eh?) we have the first opportunities to secure our choice of one of the new boys to come to the club… this includes our father/son Billy Stretch, our draftees (TBA) and our players received in trading period/s.

As soon as the National draft and pre-season draft are over and our list is finalised, the sponsorship issue will come up again. I have been asked to send the club a list of five players in order of preference on who we want to sponsor next year. It is really only the new boys that we can choose from - all the current day players bar Fitzy have guernsey sponsors already. So I need from you, a list in order of the new guys coming, who you would like to sponsor from 1-5. 1 being your fave down to 5 and as soon as possible. If you want to choose one of the upcoming draftees just put pick 2 or pick 3 in your choices.

Once I have the votes all in i will count them and make a list of the top 5 to be sent to the club.. Apparently as there are a few that have lost their players from last year, we might pick the same as our first choice so we would go into a ballot for that player ..if we dont get him, we go to our next selection etc etc..

    2) By now you will probably know that the AFL has forgotten Queensland exists as a venue for away games for the MFC and for the second year in a row we miss out getting a game up here. It sucks big time and I am extremely displeased but I will endeavour to get some Demon action for us. The boys are coming to the Sunshine Coast in January for a 10 day camp which will obviously include one weekend.. I am going to find out just when and where they will be training and then suggest we make a group trip north to check them out. A weekend on Sunny Coast, perhaps bunking down in a caravan park or motels nearby and enjoy a bit of sun, fun, beach and Demon.

More details to come when i get info but would love to know if you are interested in a weekend trip?

    3) Queensland Demons Xmas Lunch - Sunday 14th December Shearers Arms Hotel ( Peachey Rd Ormeau) 12 noon onwards. No charge, just come along, buy your lunch and drinks and enjoy meeting a few fellow Demons along the way. This is a regular event now and we want as many as possible. You will need to RSVP for table numbers by 5th December please.

Ok Thats all.. Hope to hear from you all soon..

    Go Dees

    1. Stretch is my choice at this point.

    2. I am Interested in the Sunshine Coast trip.

    3. Put me down for 3 for the Xmas dinner - maybe more.

    Check your emails Deb.

  8. The second one is after the second list lodgement which is on about 15 November and the third is a week or so after the draft. So Clubs can reassess their lists after the Delisted Free Agency period and any players they have picked up which might cause other players to be delisted, thus creating new spaces that allow a delisted free agent to be picked up that couldn't have been in the first period. Same thing applies after the draft. Some teams may not have used picks they thought they would because players they wanted weren't available or whatever other reason so they have availability to pick up DFA's that they wouldn't have taken before the draft.

    Thanks for that, makes sense.

  9. I think his manager said it would be sorted out by mid week. That is where wednesday reference has come from.

    Thankyou.

There are 3 delisted free agency periods, if anyone has a simple explanation of the difference for each it would be helpful.

  10. We look a completely different team, Smithy.

The saving grace is we're not going to revisit these type of wickets for quite a while.

Understand that Macca and I also accept that the opposition are too good under these dust bowl conditions.

What I fail to understand is why we don't learn from these defeats, after all these guys are professionals and the best players in the land.

I'll exclude Maxwell from that comment as if he is a Test cricketer, my name is Billy Graham.
