  1. Like Gysberts or Cook? or Tapscott?

I agree, don't like left field picks in the first round.

A lot of people do a lot of work researching and reviewing talent ... save the left field picks for the later rounds.

I shudder when in the past we have picked someone that doesn't have a profile and isn't in any of the experts phantom drafts!

  2. I'm sure the club thinks about it, but I am equally sure it is not having any affect at all on our performances - thankfully the kids that play for the club are far more focused than many of their supporters.

And I'm not sure what the "beamer attitude" has to do with anything, as Scully has said more that leans toward staying than going (go back and read/re-read his presser comments). My comments were directed at the accuracy of the statements.

Well I am hoping the club more than thinks about it and I am hoping the players are far more focused than their supporters!

If scully goes then as beamer says if you don't want to be at the MFC the fark off ... I would have thought that is easy for most to understand!

  3. I would argue that the only people that have been "clearly mucked around" and the supporters such as yourself who are insisting he is gone. The club has stated consistently that they are content with the situation as it stands and are happy to wait (yes, I know they have tabled an offer, but they at least, unlike some here, understand that Tom needs time to consider his options).

As for the Brent Moloney "attitude", as you have applied it it displays a distinct lack of knowledge of Sydney and an even greater lack of understanding of where someone on an annual income of $1mil would choose to live in Sydney - it is an antiquated and elitist view of what represents Sydney's "west" (the Rooty Hill cliche is as old as time). What surprises me more is that it comes from someone actually living in Sydney.

Surely you don't honestly think the club is 'content with the situation' and 'happy to wait' ... Dont under estimate the impact this is having on the club, both on field and off.

As for the beamer attitude ... I agree with this view! If Tom Scully doesn't want to play for the MFC then fark off the burbs of GWS and enjoy playing in front of a a few thousand people and a few stray dogs each week.

  4. You're drawing a rather long bow there. 98% sure based on what exactly? The rumblings of David Schwarz? Damien Barrett? Mark Stevens? I see nothing concrete in your post. Just more speculation.

If he does go then so be it. He's a gun player and future star but is he going to be any better than Jack Trengove? Dustin Martin? David Swallow? Marc Murphy? Pendlebury? Dale Thomas? Selwood? I'd even mount a case for Jordan Gysberts and Jordie McKenzie. Don't want to undersell Scully, because I love him as a player, but there are gun mids at the top end of every draft, and teams have been winning flags without Tom Scully for over a century. If he does leave we still should challenge for a flag with the list we have. No excuses.

By the way I still lean towards him staying but the offer is out there and who knows if he'll take the bait. Certainly nobody on here!

I agree, but would add that as good/ great as he may become we dont want to risk losing plenty of other talented players. In similar words to beamer ... If you don't want to play for the MFC then fark off to GWS! As much as I rate Scully, the MFC is bigger than the individual and so if it happens then we will take our 2 first round picks and use then in the 2012 super draft!

  5. Tom was off the ground for the entire last quarter. How long does it take the doc to get the ice and bandages on, pull out the crutches and make a note to see the specialist on Monday morning? How long does it take to make the walk to the cool room to celebrate with his team mates?

Agreed! It must be a long way to walk ...

  6. I'm amazed at how anyone could be so sure that 'he should have been there'. Obviously you have more facts available than I do, eg. how many metres between the cool room and the room where TS was being treated? Was it possible to interrupt the treatment underway and get there in time? Would the docs know when the siren was going to sound to get him off the table on on the way to the cool room in time? I'd want top know all that before I even thought of saying 'should have been there'. And as for taking the next step to draw conclusions about implications for contract signing - just amazed anyone would do it.

Sorry to rattle your cage sue! But it's a fair question and yes i prob know more than you!

I am just amazed that you are so defensive ... The question is valid and the argument of the said impacts are valid. Chief football writers write it, experts and commentators comment on it ... But on a forum we can't discuss it ... Amazing!

  7. Spot on there . Think about it people, were they at the g in there normal rooms/ surrounds? No. Sang the song in the fridge cos they are stuffed and scully not there. simple.

I think the question is valid and one i asked at the time ... Where was he??? No it doesnt mean he is going to GWS but fridge or no fridge he should have been there!

With potentially this sort of individual attitude and questions over his knee (long bow) ... I wonder if he is worth the $, energy and team morale that is being impacted!

  8. Don't worry, it's just a suggestion. The Adelaide commentators spent all game going on about how the two were giving it off to each other, in fact considering how biased they are I was amazed by their compliments. I get the impression that these two are going to love playing with each other.

Below is ana rticle from foxsports

'Despite the injuries, Melbourne's wider prospects for 2010 were made to look brighter for much of the contest, as draftees Jack Trengove and Tom Scully vindicated their high ratings by running rings around a comparatively flat Adelaide midfield during the first half. '

    http://www.foxsports...5018851,00.html

Yep absolutely it was just a suggestion!

It is natural that there will be competition between the two of them and they are destined to be compared for years to come. It was only one passage of play and I think (hope) that Scully didn't see Trengove and so kicked for the top of the square.

This is the first time I have seen Scully live, and I was really impressed with him. He is however still quite small and hasn't played against men before, so I think they will hold him back and give him time to develop.

I saw Trengove play (against men) in the SANFL a number of times last year. He should play a fair bit of footy for the Dee's this year but again they will take a cautious approach.

I saw enough on Saturday to say that 'The dynamic duo' are going to be awesome players for us in the years ahead.

They got plenty of it against quality opposition in wet and slippery conditions. In fact I think we will have a glut of quality players in the midfield in the next few years... just need a few big forwards to kick to!

If Jack Watts (in years to come) becomes anything near what Kurt Tippett is then we are in business.

Not sure if anyone else saw Tippets mark in the last quarter? but he jumped so early and just hung on someones shoulders for ages before taking mark of the year ... only to kick it out on the full!!!

  9. I couldnt add any comments to the initial post of this topic (it is locked) ... so I started my own!

I am new to this forum but have read plenty of posts and quite enjoy the banter.

Being from Adelaide, I don't see too much footy however with the match being in Adelaide I figure now

was the time to strike and provide some comments and insight into yesterdays game.

So yesterday I trapsed out to Elizabeth oval to see my beloved Dees take on the Crows.

The temperature dropped a full 6 degrees from Adelaide and within 15 minutes of arriving it started to rain.

Crows supporters made excuses early suggesting they had plenty of players out, however we had plenty of our

own ... Bruce, Macdonald, Davey, Sylvia, Bate to name a few.

The Crows started really well and owned the first quarter, however from there it was all Demons!

We shared the ball around and in some respects over used it, especially given the conditions.

Our backline was pretty solid, I thought Warnock played pretty well despite Tippett kicking five goals on him.

Grimes was really good, Frawley did some good things, and I really like Stef Martin ... I think he will take the next step this year.

I thought both Mckensie and Strauss looked pretty good and should get games this year (providing Mckensie is upgraded from the rookie list!). Two others on the rookie list in Spencer and Newton, in my opinion should stay there! Sorry but Newton just isn't good enough, and Spencer lopes around like a big galoot and most of the time looks lost!

Scully knows how to find the footy and was really good, quick hands and effective disposals.

Trengove didn't get as much of it but just always seems to have time and make good decisions.

There was an interesting passage of play, where Scully was running towards the forward 50 and he could have handballed over the top to an open Trengove to setup a shot for goal. Scully seemed to ignore Trengove and kicked to Miller who was well covered. I can imagine (and expect) there will be some competition between the two of them ... but lets hope that this was a once off and more just a poor decision at the time!!!

Gysberts looks ok, seemed to be in the right place at the right time ... but is still a few years off having a mature enough body to play at this level.

Up forward, Dunn and Miller were the targets and considering the conditions did pretty well. I would however like to see Miller exert more presence and break packs. Petterd was really impressive, and if Jurrah had played the forward structure looks ok. Before Jurrah got injured he kicked a 'trademark' kick over his head for a goal ... very impressive!

Apolgies to Maric fans, I just don't rate him ... and yesterday I saw nothing to change my mind.

All in all we were hard at it and had plenty of opportunities to win ... in fact with 10 mins to go Trengove, Scully, Green and Miller all missed set shots for goal. With a few senior players back and some more game time for some of the players I reckon we will be competitive through out the year.
