Clap, clap, clap.... Very easy to make sweeping statements about teams, players, coaches, etc when there is no possibility of evidence to the contrary being produced. I can just as easily boldly proclaim that none of Ross Lyon, Rodney Eade, Brett Ratten, Michael Voss or Nathan Buckley will EVER coach a premiership. Nobody can say anything at all to prove otherwise.

What if Essendon wore their usual, predominantly black guernsey and we wore our predominantly red "Demon" guernsey?? That's worked in the past. Would the argument then not be about being red & blue and conveniently change to being all about a yoke??

Interesting stat on the final 8....
Inner Demon replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
Going on exposed form we almost look to be as good a chance to win any of these games as we are to lose any of these games. We all but beat Coll & WB last time around while getting comfortably beaten by NM & WCE. As the more rational posters on here have been patiently explaining to the rest, this young team is going to be up and down like a yo-yo all year long and we just have to enjoy the weeks where they turn up and try to block out the weeks where they don't while they build this team. -
If history is any guide, then no, the AFL probably won't let us wear our home guernsey against Essendon and they will say it is asking too much. Open YOUR eyes. MFC have bigger battles to fight which make very real differences to our Club in the long term than grandstanding about our colours for 3 hours on one day of the year.

Did Dunn play for Casey or was he held out as our emergency?? He was conspicuously absent from the reports from the game. I'd say that's been the main reason not many are calling for him here. Coupled with a few notable names kicking goals and/or featuring in the best that has probably squeezed Dunn down the lists of us armchair experts.

YEAH!! We'll tell the AFL to stick this one up their jumper. If they don't like it, they can just take away the millions of dollars they pump into us to keep us in existence. That'll show 'em!!!

Michael Newton has never, ever done any of those things any better than what PJ did on the weekend. I cannot think of a single player at Casey right now who isn't ahead of Newton in every conceivable way. Has never done a thing at any level, other than grow to a certain height, that gives him any right to a spot in our senior team.
-
I'm not, I genuinely believe he's the worst, softest player on any AFL list.
-
Michael Newton is a pioneer for women's football. I'd rather see Jamie Bennell pinch hit in the ruck.
-
Ummm, why do we want a kid who can't get a game for a team going worse than us?? And yeah, I'll bet the FD is really kicking themselves for passing on Mitch Thorp who is dominating for ...... ummmm ..... oh ......

6 McDonald 5 Grimes 4 McKenzie 3 Frawley 2 Rivers 1 Bartram For those wondering about who was on Priddis, you may be alarmed to learn it was actually Junior.

I cannot fathom any suggestions for Newton to come in. Miller's kicked about 11 goals in 3 weeks including time spent in defence. Newton has been plain awful. If Miller's leg fell off I'd prefer him to Newton.

Playing with a broken nose will often take the zip out of your game

We weren't outcoached today. The boys were just flat and listless. There was no run, there was no intensity. It looked as if they just didn't get up after the hard slog in the wet last week. We know full well our gameplan isn't "handball at all costs". If you think they're being told to stand flat-footed and pass to stationary targets, you're simple

Out: Bruce (hamstring), Johnson, Bate (ankle), Hughes In: Morton, Miller, Wonaeamirri, Jetta

Terrible thread. Rivers among the best today. Cannot fathom where the hate for him is coming from. Took a pile of contested marks in defensive 50 and affected a heap of good spoils in contested situations as well as out on leads.
-
I don't think GC will have to 'poach' Miller for him to go up there. They will know full well we have no intention of re-signing him and they needn't waste their 'bullet' in poaching him from our list in the event there is another player they have interest in securing.

Meesen's name has absolutely no place in that company. He won't come back. He's a spud. Besides that, we'd need a rash of injuries for him to even be eligible to play. So seeing Meesen in red & blue again would be a disaster on two fronts.

It's happening. Watts is coming in.

Pointless going back and forth debating what he might be worth in a trade, but perhaps as a frame of reference we can consider that Josh Gibson (+Pick 69) went for Picks 25 & 41. Next year, GC's 3rd round pick is Pick 41. However, just developing that thought a little, consider that if we have 4 spots open on our list at the end of the year we can safely assume one will go to McKenzie and then the Club must decide on whether Spencer and/or Hughes will be elevated as well as their time limits on the rookie list will be up. If we decided to elevate one or both of these guys, then we would be out of the draft after our 1st or 2nd pick, which would be around #13/14 or #30/31 assuming a mid-ladder finish. If you're still with me, you will realise that Pick 41 would be of no use to us in this draft, so perhaps in this situation it would be better for us to lose a player and receive the compensation a couple of years down the track??? If only AFL allowed trading draft picks to move up or down in drafts, so surplus picks would be of use...

MFC is quite torn on this pretty significant moral issue. They made peace with the concept by deciding that they can channel the proceeds from the pokies back into our community programs.
-
That'd be fine, really. But if we're going to lose Rivers (or any other player), I'd rather have a 3rd rounder now than in 2013.
-
This ridiculous, overly administrative imposition on the game is far more likely to exacerbate injuries than prevent them. If this rule comes in, I guarantee we will see a farcical situation where a player is injured and is unable to come from the field because a random limit has been reached. It's stupid, it's unnecessary, and it's one more bloody rule everyone has to keep on top of. If injury tolls are such a problem then the game will evolve to decrease this issue. Leave the rules alone.

Green being eligible for the Veteran's List next year is an interesting point. I hadn't picked that up. Either way it is good because it opens up 50% of his salary back into our salary cap. But if Junior or Bruce did retire at season's end then it will affect our list spots. I'm just not sure either of those blokes will be ready to go. A lot will depend on how they go injury-wise throughout the year I suspect.

I posted this in another thread but it's probably more relevant here. I could see Jared Rivers being trade bait for GC at the end of this year. I don't say this because I don't rate Riv, quite the opposite. I rate him very highly, and I feel like GC might as well. Since we have excellent depth in this part of our set-up and he offers GC a quality, experienced player with plenty of years left, it seems like the kind of trade that might get done. However, I would be bitterly disappointed to see Riv go for 'nothing' (ie. whatever convoluted compensation deal that can't be used until 2012 gets formulated for GC poaching.)
