  1. MELBOURNE

    B: Frawley Garland Terlich/Clisby
    HB: Grimes McDonald Toumpas
    C: Blease N. Jones Kent
    HF: Howe Fitzpatrick Watts
    F: Hogan Clark Trade (Crumber)
R: Gawn Trade (quality mid) Viney
I/C: M. Jones **Draft (mid - pick 2) Trengove Sub Sylvia
    Emergencies: Spencer Evans Terlich/Clisby
    Terlich must improve decision making
    Clisby must improve strength
Blease must improve work rate so he can run both ways
Howe must get 20 touches a game
Fitzpatrick and Watts to play high and always give defenders an option
Fitzpatrick to give Gawn a chop out in the ruck and share i50 ruck work with Clark
Clark to lead to the 50, Hogan to drop into the square, he will outmark most 3rd tall defenders
We need to trade for an A grade first possession mid
We desperately need a ready made crumbing forward
We should win 6-8 games next year

  2. be as critical as you like Bossdog

The comment is based on at the end of the 2012 season we had IMO at best 20 players that were AFL standard or of a quality that would allow us to play finals football.

We changed 14 for season 2013. There are a couple like Rivers that walk because they wanted out that I am confident we would have kept.

That leaves 6 - 8 at min. that IMO need to be moved on at the end of 2013.

Lets not kid ourselves the list is still far from wonderful

    Don't be so sure

  3. Scharenberg will be no 1 , he will be a superstar. Billings not far behind.

If we get to keep our picks and don't trade them (likely to do so) then the following players could be in the mix.

Billy Hartung or Lewis Taylor to inject some real ball winning pace into the squad or Ben Lennon if we wany to continue the theme of bigger bodied midfielders. All local kids who have class and have a go!

  4. Whatever the reasons for his departure, he must go with the "thanks and job well done" tag. Agreed you don't have to be Einstein to pick great players when you have very early picks (some clubs have still stuffed this up!)but his legacy will be the astute selections later on in the draft and in particular some cracking rookie selections. As the club moves towards its 13th premiership and players such as Bail, Howe, Fitzpatrick, Jurrah, Nicholson, Tom Mcdonald, Evans, Davis, Gawn, Taggert, Tynan and Sheehan come to the fore, Barry's name will resurface and people will want to shake his hand!

  5. I agree with a lot of what Sylvinator has said.

However, I think Neeld will be keen to play Clark Sellar and one of Magner and Couch in the first game

I also think that a number of players who are either in rehab or simply aren't fit will not be considered as Neeld will not feel that they have enough "work" in them. Therefore I have not included McKenzie, Tapscott, Jurrah, Strauss, Petterd, or Davey. I haven't considered Sylvia

Now that Gawn is gone, we can upgrade two rookies

    Jetta Frawley Garland

    Grimes Sellar Nicholson

    Jones Moloney Bail

    Howe Watts Green(Sylvia)

    Bennell Clark Bate

    Jamar Trengove Gysberts

    Martin Magner/Couch Blease Bartram (sub)

  6. My Top 10 1972 - Now

1 Robbie Flower - He would be unbelievable in any era.

2 Gary Hardiman - The best CHB we've had by the length of the straight

3 David Schwartz - 3 Recos, could have been a star for a much longer time

4 Travis Johnson - amazing talent - should have worked harder and been better for longer

5 Brett Lovett - a genious without the athleticism of others

6 Jimmy Stynes - gave us his heart as he has continued to do

7 Steven Tingay - another whose career was cut down

8 Gary Lyon - a fantasic leader whose body let him down in the end

9 Jeffrey Farmer - his good stuff was mercurial

10 David Neitz - a little overrated as a player but the first onfield leader you would pick

Col Sylvia should be there and with a couple of great seasons may well earn his place

Jack Trengove WILL be there and somewhere near the top.

  7. Bartram (runs hard and is tough) Frawley (tough and hard at the ball) Garland (hard at the ball and contests all the time)

MacDonald (tough and hard at the ball) Sellar (big body and hopefully will contest hard) Tapscott (strong and hard at the ball)

Grimes (brave as hell and attacks the ball) Moloney (big body and attacks the ball) Bail ( runs hard and attacks the ball)

Sylvia (tough and hard when fit) Clark (big strong and aggressive) Trengove (fearless and attacks the ball)

Howe (getting fitter, stronger and attacks the ball) Martin (big and strong and jumps and runs hard) Jetta (works hard and attacks the ball)

Jamar (big body and jumps hard) McKenzie (tackles hard and attacks the ball) Jones (strong and relentless at the ball)

Bate ( stronger and fitter and attacks the ball) T Mcdonald (real big and strong and attacks everything) Nicholson (runs hard and getting stronger) Taggert (will be strong and will attack the ball)

Its all about strong bodies and work rate

  8. You may or may not be right. But Prendergast can't be blamed for recruiting players Neeld doesn't want. He could be criticised if he had recruited players Bailey didn't want - but I see no evidence of that. I assume Prendergast followed instructions with respect to what Bailey thought were the needs of the club at that time. I have no doubt one of the instructions given under Bailey was to recruit players with character (although in hindsight I think he failed with a certain Pick No. 1...but that is in hindsight. I don't recall anyone here being critical of the recruitment of Scully at the time).

In short, I have no idea whether Neeld wants to retain the services of Prendergast. But, given the almost complete change of assistant coaches and fitness staff since Neeld's arrival, it's not impossible to foresee that this year's drafts may be Prendergast's last.

I agree with the fact that Prendergast would have been following Bayleys instructions and they may now be different under Neeld. Neeld took over the list knowing what was there and surley made some undertaking to the Board that he could take that list deep into September, so the pressure is on him and his new coaches to deliver on that. It will be Prendergasts job to introduce new players that fill what Neeld believes are the gaps. No way can Neeld say that Prenergast is retrospectively responsible for recruiting players that HE doesn't like! What makes it tougher is that this is a weak draft and we don't enter it until pick 36. This will require some really creative drafting.

  9. Fantastic, its my 20th night going to 2am and its been sesational. How inspiational, its all about belief and work ethic! Now to get the trifecta, Jason Day to win the Masters and the Dees to win a Flag!

  10. Early days I thought Stephan Martin had the athleticism to do all the things he's doing, just concerned with his kicking. Then last year and early this year I thought maybe not. So now that its happening for him it is fantastic, but to me he is now living up to expectations(as lofty as they may have been) and well done to him for doing so!. Same goes for Jack Watts and for that matter most of the other high draft picks. So for mine the real find of the season has beem Jeremy Howe and once he becomes like "part of the furniture" I think we'll see a lot more exciting things from him ie big marks and more goals.

It was also interesting to watch how well big Max Gawn did in terrible condtions out at Casey two weeks ago.

  11. Young side?

    Rivers

    Bartram

    Garland

    Davey

    Sylvia

    Moloney

    Jones

    Jamar

    Green

    Bate

    Dunn

    McDonald

    Grimes

    Warnock

    Petterd

    Frawley

These blokes are old enough to win the loose ball. They are old enough to fight, they know how to win. They can play.

So we do we frequently look pathetic.

Maybe it is Bailey who lets them get away with it. Maybe he can't coach. Remember Terry Wallace. He had 5 years.

Collingwood is a very young side aswell. You don't see them talking about patience. They just wanna win.

only eight of these guys played against the filth

The rest were really young and we just have to pull our collective heads in and give them time!

I for one am continually excited and then massively frustrated and then thrilled and then disappointed and its not easy being red and blue at the moment.

Keep your heads up just as you would want the players to and our time will come!

  12. that first post brought tears to my eyes.

OP has already decided that Morton won't make it, that Blease, Strauss and Bennell were mistakes, that Gysberts was a slip-up and that Gawn, an underage bean pole who is yet to grow into his body, was a waste. And nobody rated Barlow, that's why he was a rookie pick- some kids just come on unexpectedly (see Fyfe).

I'm no seasoned poster 888, but you're a joke mate. come back in five years time. Honestly one of the worst, most premature OPs I've ever read. You see more reasoned comments on Bay 13 BigFooty.

    Great post,totaly agree.

Apart from Fitzpatrick (who is injured and could be anything)every player drafted from 2008 - 2010 has played and everyone has done well including rookies such as nicholson, evans and a bloke named Jurrah! They may not be stars yet but give them time and there's a good chance a number will be. We now have Howe up and running and the other three boys are progressing well at Casey.

The only one thats really struggling for credibility is 888

  13. You are locked in a room with a lion, a crocodile and a collingwood supporter. You have a gun but only two bullets! What do you do?

    ......?????

    ......?????

    You shoot the Collingwood supporter!

    TWICE!!!

  14. Wow.. Really really small backline.. If Hille and Ryder are both in there we could be in trouble. Watts obviously doesn't count as he wont be playing on either of those two. I like the look of the ins, but Maric and Warnock should not have been dropped.

Maric is a selfish but talented goal sneak. However he (and Petterd) MUST learn to chase and tackle and apply constant pressure. Warnock unfortunatley is too much of a liability with the ball in his hand and has just been filling a gap (albeit a good physical one) until either McDonald (Tom) or Davis or Fitzpatrick are ready to go. Not pleased with Mortons effort(or lack thereof)last week but otherwise I think the selection is fantastic and really look forward to seeing the young blokes having a crack and giving us some glimpses of the not to distant future

  15. Fantastic job for a 19 year old to clearly state his case under that media pressure. You just have to love how well he handles himself. We should now get off this subject and just enjoy watching him handle himself with the same poise and authority out on the field.

    Well done Tom.
