I haven't watched AFL media in a few years. I was surprised to see Riewoldt as host in a clip I saw yesterday. He has the charisma of a donut.

This is basically AFL journalism 2025. They pretty much all do it.

Merrett would be a perfect addition for our midfield. Never going to happen though. Oliver, Kozzy, Windsor and Merrett with Lindsay and Langford on the wings would be drool-worthy.

The potential upside for Hollands is not at all worth the risk. If you have an A+er like Dusty or Clarry already at your club, you take the cultural risk and try and protect the rest of the group while giving Dusty and Clarry greater leeway. When you're talking about bringing in a B grader (if that), it'd be a brain melting list management decision.

He didn't play firsts in year 11, which is unusual for someone with his background. Lovely kid though.

This could well be true - Occam's razor. But I think it's pretty clear that given Guerra has indicated creating a role above Richardson in the FD, it's merely soft cap constraints keeping Richo here, and potentially a modicum of continuity.

Interesting that he mentions 4 other guys (quoting those mentioned), which to me sounds like Ralph is correct that one (Gianceracusa?) has already dropped away and we're at 5 candidates.

Mt Scopus didn't buy crown land. Our plan is to build on crown land, hence a lower cost and certain concessions needed by our side. How do we know the club doesn't now know where the building will be built? As the HS article suggested, the MFC had to make certain concessions. I've been as critical of the board as anyone, but this does sound like genuine progress. Pert seemingly had nothing or little to do with it though, so that was definitely a soft landing provided by the board that hired him in the first place.

Why would our primary interest in Derksen be to play him forward?

It gives us a year to look around. Derksen is very likely on our short list too. Four is more than enough. Adams will be fine too.

We have Turner, Petty, Adams and TMac for next year. May if he stays. Jake is surplus to needs at this point. A great leader and voice down back. If the game was slower, he'd be an asset next to Turner, but the style of modern play exposes his weaknesses. I'd be fine keeping him for his leadership, otherwise it could definitely be a win win depending on what comes back our way.

Case in point, it makes me question Skipworth if he lost out to McQualter for the Eagles position. Nothing about McQualter's time at Melbourne or his first year out West would say he has any idea what he's doing. Of course, the Eagles coaching panel may have absolutely stuffed up their appointment too.

This bit is telling to me: "Brisbane football boss Daly has also had discussions with the Demons before deciding he wouldn't put his hand up..." So you have the conversation and then decide against putting your hand up. Almost like he was told we want number 5.

I think success as a coach is more important than success as a player. Probably helps if you have both though.
