  1. Your honest statement would apply to 99% of posters on forums (especially this one) who never actually see the younger players play, would not know a good player from an also ran if they and their "knowledge" does not extend beyond repackaging someone elses comments (whether or not the source has rehashed their comments 4th ot 5th hand from someone else).

There are however some posters that do go the yards to look at some of the younger talent and do have an eye and a knowledge for assessing it. There comments should be noted. But generally the knowledgeable ones are not some of the more obvious and vacuous self promoters here.

    Caveat Emptor.

which is exactly why i plan on going to the dome on wednesday to check out the talent! :)

  2. 1. Scully

    2. Daylight

    3. Daylight

    4. Daylight

    5. Trengove/Morabito/Fitzpatrick/Whoever

Is that really how it is? I mean, is there no one that stands out as being top 2 (other than Scully of course)? I don't know enough at the moment, except that Scully is very good and Butcher is not living up to expectations.

personally i think scully is the best midfielder by far.. followed by trengove, then either lucas/koby stevens, then morabito

but you are right.. the number 2 spot is still very much up for grabs! this weekend and next wednesday might give us a clearer picture!

  3. Without a doubt Scully will be a gun! Recruiters and coachers who have seen and dealt with Scully have already said he is one of the best things to come out for years! The rest of the draft may not be as strong as last year.. but that relates to the depth.. Scully will be a freak!

Butcher – still depends on his kicking! 2.6 in the last two games is not good enough.. however it does prove he gets a lot of scoring opportunities and its only his kicking letting him down.. if he can fix that.. he will be very handy! There are a lot of midfielders in the draft.. but not many key tall forwards.. that is why he will still be snapped up

It is still early to tell though

  4. Who are the good Ruckman in this draft?

Also, Will a gun Ruck or KPF be available at pick 18-20.

If we can get either of them I think we will definitely take two mids with our first two picks.

hey mate.. welcome to demonland! ..from vic metro Fitzpatrick is probably the most promising ruck draft prospect at this time.. odds are he will go in the 1st round.. but if some how he slips to the 2nd i am sure we will snap him up! (just like we stole Blease from the 1st round last year)

and at this point.. odds are we will pick tom scully at pick 1 (a mid) and john butcher at 2 (a KPF) ..check out their youtube links.. they both look like guns!!

  5. Crikey. Good work cooko.

    haha thanks mate!

    - Gary Rohan: his ranga hair certainly caught my eye! not much has been said about him, but i loved the way he attacked the contest, presented, disposal was fine - ticked all of my boxes

sounds like he would fit perfectly in our team considering we are collecting rangas! (Bate, Cheney)

  6. Ok I clearly have too much time on my hands.. but i thought some of you might find this interesting! You get an idea of some of the player's progress that have 'gone under the radar' so far but have been performing each week!

Here are the totals for each team from the match reports from the NAB Under 18 Championships

Note: I have only outlined multiple goal & best on ground winners

  7. When Neitz was made captain, he was 24 years old with 137 games and 217 goals under his belt. He was already an All-Australian player (1995) and had represented Victoria. He had led Melbourne's goalkicking three times. My memory tells me he was already the club's vice-captain. History shows he led the club into the Grand Final in his first year as captain.

Grimes is 20, he's played six games with an average of 18 possessions off a half-back flank. He hasn't been nominated as a Rising Star (just about the only honour he's been a chance of receiving).

If Neitz "wasn't ready" for the captaincy, what does that makes Grimes?

Junior was the best choice for skipper at the start of this season and his appointment has allowed us the chance to select a younger skipper for 2010 - which is exactly what you're calling for.

The only viable "young" candidate at the start of 2009 was Brock McLean and his off-field misdemeanours and constant injury precluded him from being selected.

Had we appointed Bruce or Green - the only other viable contenders - we would be stuck with their leadership for a number of years yet and the chance to "go young" would be even further away.

    nice post!

exactly right.. to promote someone after 6 games is a bit of a joke.. and do you think the rest of the team who have been around longer, shown consistent form and have already earnt the respect of the team wouldn’t take offence to such a move??

  8. are you kidding??

Watching Westcoast against Richmond was the biggest joke ever. I've never in my life seen a team play so bad and put in such a poor effort, West Coast were doing everything in their power to lose!

i can't believe you said West Coast didn't look to bad.. hahahaha

no i said it was a scrappy game and they dont travel well.. you cant honestly say they werent trying against the cats the week before?? they did play like ass against the Tiges.. but some of the players did step up as the game went on.. i still think the next few games for west coast will really show if they are tanking as they have games they can easily win..

..and if you think west coast against richmond was the biggest joke ever.. i think they played better then the dees did v the pies..

  9. Why does everyone think west coast are tanking already? I have watched them play the last 2 weeks (against the cats and tiges) and they haven’t looked that bad. Against the Cats they were really competitive but you could clearly see the cats just out classed them in the last quarter! Against the tiges they did come through with the Adam Goodes.. But they don’t travel the best and a few players like Kerr (who hardly touched the ball near the start) stepped up in the last. It was a scrappy game.. but it was from both sides.. I don’t know.. Maybe its just me.. But I don’t think they are tanking just yet.. they still have winnable games left:

13 v Hawks @ Subi - Very winnable considering Hawks really suck this year and it’s at Subi

14 v Dees @ MCG - The dees should win but west coast still have a very good chance

16 v Port @ AAMI - not the favourites.. but port haven’t played that well the last few games

17 v Freo @ Subi - I am fairly sure west coast will win this

18 v Essendon @ Subi - home ground ad.. very winnable

    20 v North @ Subi - should win

    22 v Tiges @ Subi - should win

They only need 2 more wins.. and they have still been relatively competitive in matches.. I really don’t see them as a threat! If anything the Dees winning more then 5 is the only threat left for the year!

  10. Okay. So in the last week, we've had the following suggestions:

    - A call to sack Bailey, pay him out, and replace him with a guy whose never been part of an AFL coaching panel in his life.

    - A call for a 19 year old kid, who has played a grand total of six AFL games, to be made captain next year

    - A suggestion that we should have picked Natanui instead of Watts, on the grounds that he played better in his first game

    - A call for us to move our best young defender into the forward line and take two quick midfielders with the first two draft picks, instead of simply picking the best two young players in the country (one of whom is apparently a gun key forward, giving us a chance to develop a great forwardline on top of our already promising backline)

And now we have a thread insisting that Hardwick would have been a much better coach than Bailey, a point that has been substantiated with precisely bugger-all. I'm looking forward to the next "let's do this" thread, which -I expect- will be a passionate 2000 word post, discussing at length why Davey should sit on Jamar's shoulders in the ruck contests, why McLean would be a 10x better player if he had a silver mouthguard, and why it is imperative that we draft Randy "Macho Man" Savage as our next full forward.

haha awesome post.. completely agree! some of the suggestions lately have been totally ridiculous!

    MACHO MAN OOOOOHHHHH YEEEEAAAAH!!!

U18s: SA ends Vic Country's run

SOUTH Australia has ended Vic Country’s unbeaten run at the NAB AFL Under-18s Championships with an upset 51-point win at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

The home side led from start to finish in a masterful display of wet-weather football.

The Croweaters, through the help of usual suspects Jack Trengove, Alex Carey and Hayden Jolly, kicked four goals to one in the opening term to lead by 15 points at the first break.

The rain set in during the second quarter, but it failed to derail South Australia.

Taite Silverlock and Matthew Panos combined for five majors as the underdogs piled on seven goals straight for the term.

Goals to Vic Country duo David Astbury and Josh Cowan helped the visitors save some face, but the margin was still 43 points at the main break.

The weather subsided in the third quarter, but only two goals were added to the scoreboard and the South Aussies held onto a 44-point break at the final change.

Strong marking forward Andrew Hooper got Vic Metro off to a good start with a goal in the opening minutes of the last quarter, but a fourth to Panos snuffed out any hope of a comeback.

SA skipper Trengove continued his brilliant carnival with another 27 possessions, seven clearances and three goals in a little over three quarters of football.

Silverlock racked up 20 touches and six inside50ms to go with his bag of three and Derek Wanganeen showed glimpses of brilliance in his 25 disposals.

Simon Potts and Daniel Menzel were solid in defence.

For Vic Country, Ben Cunnington battled hard for 19 possessions and a goal and Astbury and Andrew Hooper were lively.

    South Australia 4.1 11.1 12.5 16.9 (105)

    Vic Country 1.4 3.6 4.9 7.12 (54)

  13. That is a pretty stupid statement by your source! What if Watts has massive games the next few weeks.. I don’t think they would drop him just because some source claims he will only play four more.. I am pretty sure they will take it week to week.. and unless your source is DB himself I find it hard to believe…
