  1. Make no mistake this bloke will bring the excitement and skill to the MFC.

The Pies and North are both cursing MFC for picking up this bloke who has been the standout player in the Northern Territory in 2008.

    Jurrah is blessed with:

    (a) pace to burn;

    (B) great disposal;

    © courage;

    (d) leadership; and

    (e) determination to win the hard ball.

I am trying to keep a lid on my excitement on this guy, I have only seen the highlight clips. If what you say is true then we have just got the recruit of the year from the PSD. If d&e can be replicated at the elite level this guy will be a star.

I notice this question was asked before but no one responded......

If he was available for the national draft where would have he gone? I would have suggest late 2nd rnd (pick 30-40)

  2. "His exposure could get a major sponsor on board"

I made the call re sponsor on the 20/11 and copped heaps of flack!

BTW have heard that his body is not up to it and that is why one of the other clubs pulled out.

They had him do a 1hr fitness test that he could not complete. Nothing to do with his history/problems. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

  3. I can't understand why we are debating this.

The draft is done, good luck to Jordie end of story. Re KPP out of 6 picks 2 were KPF, I think that's enough for one year as they take longer to develop genarally. so as I stated earlier with a sibosado/Debore double I really think the MFC got it right taking Jurrah and McKenzie over these two.

  4. No reason at all to keep either Davey Wona, McLean or Green in cotton wool. Spencer might get a run but Zomer is not even in Sandy 1sts. I would rather play a main squad prospect.

Given the list I think we have no other choice but to go young.

yeah fair call, probably went slightly over on the youth policy, but its good have 2 or 3 all in contention for 1 position, but when this happens 3 or 4 times it starts to show that we have a bit of depth (be it young) that is starting to take shape. this was exactly what I was wanting to look at, not our best 18 but what 25 do we want to try across our 18.

  5. I've got problems with Bigpond too. Have trouble with MFCTV.

Hope he goes well and wipe out the heartburn i sometimes get imagining Niknat and Jwatts playing together.

The Filth would be crying seeing this video with the dees colours at the start. my 1 good deed for each day will be to show this clip to a supporter of the filth! It would be nice to see him kick a bag against them early in the year, and then destroy them on QB monday!

  6. Bruce, Davey, Green, Jamar, Rivers, Wheatley, Wonaeamirri

    all rested????????

I can't remember the last preseason game bruce played, Rivers still recovering = unlikely, robbo as well. Davey and Wona keep on cotton wool until the season proper. Green or Mcclean to rest (who ever is not ©), Jamar - No thankyou, give zomar and or spencer a run. Martin could go in to the ruck as well

The really good thing about this list was it was hard to pick who to play rather then who to "fill" the position like what happened a lot this year. I really think we will go young to test a few of the boys therefore some of the snr players most likely will be left out. Hind sight - maybe 1 or 2 of the young ones to miss to be replaced by a couple of the "rested" list

  7. The post re Rd 1 was good, but I think we were getting to far ahead as there is the NAB cup 1st that will determine 6 - 10 spots. Not sure if there are restrictions on playing rookies so I have named a few.

    FF Martin, Newton, Maric

    HF Watts, Miller , Morton

    C Strauss, McLean ©,Grimes

    HB Petterd, Warnock, Sylvia

    FB Whelan, Garland, Frawley

    R Johnson, Moloney, Jones

Int (from): Spencer, Valenti, Zomer, Jurrah, Blease, Buckley, Bate, Bail, Jetta, Bennell

Rested:Bartram, Bell, Bruce, Davey, Green, Dunn, Jamar, McDonald, Rivers, Robertson, Wheatley, Wonaeamirri

Roughies: (NAB challenge games if we loose)

    9. Cheney, Kyle

    25. McNamara, Tom

    26. Meesen, John

Really looking forward to seeing a few of the boys yet to play a senior game and those drafted this year. I think we could set a record for the most inexperienced side ever fielded in this game!

  8. I really hope the club got it right with these 2. They are critical to the Club's improvement.

Watts was an obvious choice and nobody is going to shoot Prendergast if Jetta, Bennell & Bail don't make it.

Blease & Strauss are high picks in a Superdraft which means they might have been around top 10 in an average year. They were taken ahaed of very well credentialled players particularly some KPP's.

Lets hope they turn out more like Scott Thompson & Adem Yze rather than Aaron Rogers & Luke Molan.

Strauss for mine is the really interesting one to watch due to his finishing attributes he is coming with. Skills and lack of finishing hurt us more then anything else this year. I think your right on the money here with these 2, but they might take a couple of years to develop before we can ask too much of them.

  9. Agree - so disappointing to see people writing off draft picks because of the type of players selected.

It's a joke to say we should have taken someone tall, with 'x factor' or some other general criteria based on a completely uneducated view (and yes I include watching a two minute video clip or a single game as uneducated).

Maybe we should have taken strawnie. Has the x factor, big unit that plays forward! I'll take a hard running midfielder any day over a bloke who may not even be able play.

  10. Most. But it feels like the stupidity level on this forum has sky rocketed all of a sudden.

I can handle the stupidity when its not discussed in such a serious manner.

But regardless of my arrogant opinions, I've wasted enough time on this forum recently. Its time to knuckle down & get some real work done before xmas.

And this forum is of little interest to me during the season, so I guess I'll argue with you all at the end of next season.

    hasta luego

But it feels like the stupidity level on this forum has sky rocketed all of a sudden?? you mean those who have different views to yours?

Don't fall when your getting off your high horse and returning to work!

  11. I suppose the other option is to play all home games at the MCG until we are insolvent. Then we can cater for the crowds in western sydney or Tassie.

A 3rd AFL venue in melbourne is a must for when the 17th+18th teams come in. Otherwise get used to the drive to geelong or watching home games on tv played interstate (Canberra, NT, TAS etc)

  12. That's much better. :)

I think it is important that you should express the specifics initially when you post, so you won't be taken the wrong way when you make a summation as in this case. Ie. "serious question marks"

Well Put HT, as i said before this is a debate as to Why they should, not why others shouldn't.

Brock - Young, Oozzes leadership onfield, support of the masses, marketable, courage, our best midfielder moving forward therefore will lead by example.

Green - Leads by example, media experiance

Bruce - Champion of our club, 2yrs ago brownlow favorite after early rds,

Macca - Champion of our club,

Therefore, I see Brock as the next captain for the most positive attributes but any of those 4 could have it. I don't like young forwards being captain as they are away from the action therefore rules Miller out as © at this stage.

  13. I felt the same way. After the National Draft, where we rightfully targeted mids after Watts, I thought the opportunity to go for a high risk/high reward selection with our no. 1 psd/rookie selections. We've done that with Jurrah, but played it safe with McKenzie.

I'm not so sure about playing it safe with Mckenzie, he has missed a lot of footy (injured since 07) therefore there still could be a very good player in the making.

But if i am reading into this MO64 you would have prefered if the 1st rookie pick was more high risk/ High reward tall? I was on the Sibasado wagon prior to the draft but after taking Jurrah that spot on the list is taken. So therefore I think we will have to trust the club that Mckenzie was the best available player for us. Who knows what he could develop into with a full year of footy under his belt.

I really believe Sibasado will be nothing more then a side show (a poor mans richo) which we don't need at the club now we have a better player in jurrah

  14. 2009 - Grimes, Pettard, Spencer, Martin - These are the ones I'm looking forward to watch. ignore the high profile recruits and take enjoyment out of some of the others developing.

I don't like naming 1st year players but for me spencer is shaping up as one of the most important young players on the list.

Does anyone have any odd's for the Dee's making the 8?

  15. Wrong wrong Wrong.. "Defensive pressure is over-rated as a forward" thats a joke, and a very ignorant football statement, tell that to Aaron Davey who made it fashionable.

The reason Why Newton wasnt given a go, is because he had the attitude of a spoilt kid, played like a bloke drinking champagne on a beer budget. If he gets back to basics, then he might have a shot. As it stands he is No where near it!

I agree totally, I was a big fan end of 07, he has moutains of potential but is yet to deliver consistant performances. At this stage I hope he comes up but really have my reservations. The only thing in his defense was the way the ball was coming in last year, when we got the ball in quick and hit him lace out it looked good, but he needs to find the ball a bit more.

I thought his defensive pressure had improved by the end of the year (Not saying it was up to scratch, but it looked like he was atleast trying harder). If Jurrah comes on I think Newton could struggle for a game while miller is #1. (I see watts as a utility HFF type player early)

  16. .... From the training thread, I thought this discussion is better here!

    Playing games at Cranbourne?

Sounds like Waverley only 40 years later and 40km further.

Growth corridors, a ground for the people, promised train networks, are all the reasons why VFL Park was built in Mulgrave - which was just a paddock in the 60s also.

I'm all for building an MFC training base out there, but to build a 20,000 seat stadium to play AFL games there is not for me. Good luck to the folks that are willing to sit in traffic to get there & back but I won't be one of them. Anyone, who has tried to exit VFL Park on game-day knows exactly what I'm talking about.

The concept is not visionary as its been done before and failed. If it does happen, hopefully we can learn from the experience of the biggest white elephant in the history of Australian sport.

As far as everything else that you're selling then, yes, bring it on!!!

I would still prefer to go to waverly then that rubbish ground at docklands! For the record I live in the west as well! Docklands is by far the biggest white elephant I have ever seen. Poor Surface, bottleneck walkways etc etc. I would rather drive 1.5hrs each way for the MFC to gain a profit from the game then make a loss at the G or the dome. With GC17 coming in there is another side that we will likely loose money on if played in either of the current 2 venues. Princess park is no longer an option due to redevelopment for training therefore the only other option the MFC has in the future not to loose money playing in VIC is to play these games in geelong, but why give money to geelong?

The other option is giving a or in the future possible 2 or 3 home games away interstate so I would still rather be able to watch in the flesh as I am like many others unable to afford regualar interstate trips. So if you want to be an arm chair "barracker" rather then see the boys in the flesh then go right ahead! These options have to be explored for the future benifit of the club. I have no doubt in my mind that we would get 20k to an interstate game be it at geelong or another smaller venue, so why not make casey a stronghold for the MFC where we can actually turn an impressive profit from game day against the smaller supported sides.

The concept has been done before and failed? The afl has not had a sml ground since princess park was closed because of a dodgy deal done by collins.

At the end of the day i would rather sit in traffic any day and support the boys in the flesh rather then the club being forced to travel and thus be forced to watch on TV. I really believe selling home games interstate while it is required at this stage is a step backward for the development of the MFC and its supporter base.

I do agree for a proposed venue to be viable it MUST have a station walking distance from the ground.

  17. Well said, the Voice. I couldn't agree more

I've seen Sibosado play - he has prodigous talent and was worth a gamble. If he does make it - he will be a match-winner.

I'm similarly disappointed with Healy and especialy Hughes.

We let 4-5 young talls slip through. There might only be a 5% chance that any of these make it - may be less - but having concentrated on midfielders for each of the last two national drafts, you'd reckon that it was a chance worth taking. Talls take longer to develop - and you need tall options to win a flag.

The only way we'll get any value out of McKenzie and Healy will be if our national draft picks don't work out - and if Valenti doesn't come on. Do we believe in Morton,Grimes, Maric,Cheney,Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Jetta and Bail or don't we?

THe cliub should have backed its earlier decisions and gone for something different here.

No disrespect to McKenzie & Co ....but the policy which lead to their selection smacks of caution. No risk - no return

Last night hoopla I was thinking the along the same lines.

However a nights sleep and thinking this morning put me to this conclusion.....

Sibosado has been overlooked by every club on several occasions there must be skeletons that the uninformed people like me must be missing. Many people were calling for a Sibosado/DeBore double. Now Sibosado has stat issues that tells me he has trouble getting his hands on it. De Bore has well documented kicking issues. Solution - MFC take Jurrah who is being touted outside of the MFC as being a good footballer not just a side show like Sibosado will likely become. Mckenzie has all the attributes of Debore but can kick.

I really think that the MFC got these right. I would have personally liked another ruckman on the rookie list just in case jake spencer does not come on. But all in all I would give the MFC 9/10 for PSD and Rookie. I'm going to take a keen interest in freo over the next 2 years to see if either debore or Sibosado come on but I doubt it.
