Where, oh where are the quality spinners that were spruiked that Australia would produce on the back of Shane Warne's brilliance...............we want more "freaks with tweak!!"
I think mcgain needs more then 1 innings. A good wrist spinner is worth a lot more in england then on flat tracks in S.A.. Warne went for 0/100+ in his first test (not for 9 an over though). If Hauritz gets a game ahead of a straight pace attack or mcgain I may boycot the tour. I'm sure I have the selectors shacking in their boots!

I agree that McGain should play, particularly with injury clouds over a couple of our quicks.
I also think that Hilfenhaus could be a major weapon in England, as I've said a few times.
Btw, does Siddle remind anyone else of McDermott?
Nth in doubt with a gastric bug, Mcgain has to play.
If the selectors get this wrong we are going into the ashes with no spinner with any recent test practice which IMO is madness

I will be your first member, but it will be a hard nut for him to crack.
Too late HT, the #1 ticket went long ago!
Maybe siddle out for Dirky! See if he can put a couple of the SA batsmen into the alfred! And while we are on vic fast bowlers did anyone watch the vic v nsw 20/20. How nannes can't get a 20/20 international game is beyond me.The only thing that worries me is the old "Bringing the game into disrepute". His nickname is psyco for a reason

Aussies look home despite Brad Haddin, who's not a keeper's a#sehole.
Gilchrist was a freak because he was a great keeper/batsman. But unless another Gilchrist comes along, I'd rather have a keeper who only averages high 20s low 30s like Healy did, than a batsman/keeper like Haddin. Give him a game in the shorter form of the game, but that's it.
Hopefully they take Wade to England as the 2nd keeper.
I think your being a touch harsh, haddin is a international class keeper who can bat. My biggest concern is still no specialist spinner in the side. Mcgain has to play the dead rubber as a lead up to the ashes.
How good has it been watching johnson and siddle intimidate one of the "best" batting line ups on a "good" track. SAT night was one of the best sessions of fast bowling i have watched!

To suggest changes to india tours + 20/20 tournaments at this stage is over reacting a little IMO. I understand the dangers within india ATM, but it is not pakistan either. Lets face it, there is risk even touring in england this year so should we call off the ashes?
We have seen the last international in Pakistan for a long time but I think india there is a different set of issues, some similar but still different. It will force a re-think as to travel arrangements/security but ultimately the show will and should go on.

Crikey! Siddle and Hilf I doubt for Durban. That makes Bollinger, Clark , Lee and these two.

Hows your left arm looking these days rhino, you might get a call soon!
Maybe the aussies should be waring red and blue so the injuries make sense.

Great win,
Missed this but a friend was telling me that siddle bowled 4 bouncers to stain in the 1st innings, followed by a "Get up you week ______" Great stuff for me, its been a while since we have had a fast bowler like this!
Johnson for me is close to becoming one of the MVP in the world. Lets hope hussey makes runs in the 2nd test and we are well on the way. Great win but i still can't believe we went into the test without a specialist spinner. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Give us the points for the 20/20 final! Bird was the difference in that game IMO!

1 run - Just as well or I might have lost all faith!
What are we doing with players who are struggling at state level getting a game, yet a bloke who has dominated all year is left as 12th man? Would have something to do with the Aust. A side (AKA blues) playing victoria in a shield game? Something smells funny to me.....

Oh how lovely it is to see England get smashed by the Windies. And they can consider themselves fortunate to make 51, when they were at one stage 7/26. Luckily for them Flintoff showed a bit of backbone.
Let's hope they keep that kind of form up going into the Ashes.
I'm glad they have quality batsmen the likes of flintoff down the order to save humiliation and push the total up to a massive 51!

Have Australia shelved that Spirit of Cricket that they seem to preach all the time?
It is embarrassing. Telling opposition to trust them with catches but never trusting the opposition when they claim it. Clarke spanking the ball to the slips and standing his ground. Haddin taking a wicket (from behind).
I don't mind Australia playing hard and tough and pushing the boundaries but it drives me bonkers when they preach about the spirit of Cricket. Don't act holier-than-thou.
Or is it the spirit when we are floggin everybody but when it gets hard we will do anything to try and get a win?
Who does the buck stop with here: Captain? Coach? Selectors? Players? I suspect one or both of the 1st 2.

Ronnie bags six for, and the Vics still in with a show to get another 4 points and really stretch the gap. - Mc Donald Should be included soon in the one day squad - though I'm not sure why he wasn't to start with. With the wheels really falling off the cart for us, I think it's a chance to go back to the drawing board and start afresh.
The issue is who goes to make room. It would have to be one of the 2 husseys in the middle order and ATM they both would be ahead of Mcdonald. Maybe DH could be the unluckey one. The issue is at the top of the order. Warner if left to the sharks could well become a one or two hit wonder. I think he needs to go back to state level and refine his craft a little further. I'm not convinced with marsh opening either. Maybe premote MH to open and bring in Ronnie that would work.
I have to say yesterday I witnessed one of the best bowling performances I have seen in a while (From NZ). The pressure they put us under was incredable, resulting in 2 unfortunate run outs.

....and he is only 22yo.
He has stacks of time and opportunity to make the big time.
However, is JP Duminy the find of the summer? At 24yo (still very young by modern cricket standards) his performance with the bat and in the field have been astonishing in their maturity and poise. I am scratching the think of a better debut under tough competitive conditions from a player under 25? Michael Clark in India in 2005(?)???
What a series for duminy, but from our side it would be siddle for mine - big future, big heart, bit of mongrel in him as well.
And while we are on vic fast bowlers did anyone watch the vic v nsw 20/20. How nannes can't get a 20/20 international game is beyond me.

Fantastic Series with a fitting and dramatic finale that gives great credit to both captains, both sides and the administration. The best series since the Ashes 2005. Both sides should be absolutely praised for the competitive character and sportsmanship of all the players during an absorbing and rivetting series.
The conduct of the players and officials particularly during the contentious Kallis decision was exemplary and should be a training video basis for all other teams.
Although the ICC rankings have Australia on top, there is no doubt in my mind that the South Africa is the top side ATM in terms of performance, sportsmanship and character. They absolutely embarrass the Indians in the last two categories who should take a lesson from them. No doubt they wont.
Nothing better than Test cricket. Barely interested in the lolly forms of the game.
Well said Rhino.....
Your a lot more polite towards the indian side then I am after the last couple of series - so i'm glad you beat me to the punch this morning!
Does anyone know when SA play in india next? That will be a series to watch closely.

Smiths act was one of the most courageous things I have seen in a while. How good was it to see the sydney crowd give him a standing ovation coming out to bat.
Had an interesting discussion with my neighbour after hayden put down that catch. His statement was that hes eyes have to be on their way out. Interesting observation to make..... maybe its not bad form, he just isn't seeing the ball as well as he should. I wonder how ofter cricket australia test these things?
Anyone for cricket?
