  1. Great result... I'm delighted we now have 7 picks in the main draft - although its disappointing that we have no scope to rookie a young tall

I will have to accept my two "list cloggers" ie Bartram on the main list and Hughes on the rookie list

You need to spend more time at the club then Hoopla -I'm sure you'll find the way to get Bartram and Hughes delisted. Maybe you can put your mongrel into Jack Watts!

  2. Well said Vince

The first tactical decision in the draft will be whether to use picks #11 or # 18 to get Ball

Last week Bailey said we won''t take him if he doesn't want us ... today Harrington said we may use #11 to gazzump the other clubs. Was Bailey bluffing to try to get him to the PSD? Is Harrington bluffing to get another club to use an early pick?

We are in a great position to play cat and mouse over the next couple of weeks

So Hoopla -are you saying that Ball will get drafted at 11 or 18?

  3. Ditto

Jack is several years away from his peak.

If he had been pick #25, we'd all be salivating at his obvious potential... , boy's light frame, soft hands, good balance, agile for his size, quick off the mark, poise kicking for goal, understandably a bit shell- shocked at the pace of the game.... at #25 could be anything.... exciting .......go Jack...

But as pick #1... easily brushed aside, hesitant, lacks awareness... mightn't get to 50 games........ jury's still out....come on Jack, p.y.f.o.....

    Same bloke!

    Give him time everyone

Even Leathal thinks that Jack But as pick #1... easily brushed aside, hesitant, lacks awareness... mightn't get to 50 games........ jury's still out....come on Jack, p.y.f.o.....

Can you work your magic on Jack or are you looking to redeem yourself for your call to play him on Queen's Birthday? That is why everyone thinks what they do. Maybe Jack will be ruined forever -he seems devoid of the key ingredient of mongrel -you'll have to give him yours.

  4. Juice on the rookie list is OK by me.... as we still have access to his potential

You'll be pleased that Meeson is no longer a challenger to Blake's title as the worst player on an AFL list

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get rid of Bartram and Hughes. Hughes may not be the weakest rookie in the AFL - but at 23 he is 'lay down misere' as the rookie least likely to make an impact at AFL level

Meesen is better than Mark Blake. You cannot be serious to continue to think that.

For weakest Rookie -what about Polak when he gets Rookied?

  5. Hey i got shot down buy a few for suggesting Newton to the rookie list, but ive heard him and Meeson will be on the rookie list next year.

Why did you get shot down for that suggestion -I confirmed it before the club did and I know who put Meeson there as well.

  6. OK Darren. I'd forgotten that no one could ever get dodgy numbers past you!

I confess that I did make up the 25% efficiency rating .The 4 was in a newspaper after one of his better games but I couldn't remember what percentage went to advantage. I suspected it was zero - but I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt

Your figures confirm the old saying - that " there are lies, damn lies and statistics". 12 hit outs per game? .... must have been before the umps recalled bad bounces! Unfortunately although he is a good athlete for his size, JM is not a good knock ruckman - and he has much further to go to get there than his injury prone body will carry him.

You can't possibly claim that Mark Blake is the worst player in the competition when John Meeson is on an AFL list.

Thankyou for acknowledging that I do know something about football - even though all that "mover and shaker stuff" is a crock of excrement .

( How perceptive is that HighTower?)

You are joking right? Mark Blake is the worst AFL footballer on any list currently. He is hopeless. Meeson is a better player and it just shows how good Geelong is to carry such a poor footballer. Don't know why you are so in love with Mark Blake, I hope Steven King hammers him. This me or him ultimatum is acceptable when you are a Judd but for Mark Blake to do it -he must know where the bodies are buried or who the gay players at Geelong are.

  7. I have no idea about stats for Meesen's games, but I think he performed quite a bit better when he played earlier this year than a lot of people are getting credit for.

    ... then again, I shouldn't be surprised.

That's not to say he's answer to our ruck woes.

Just that he actually did perform quite well in his limited performances.

Hardly a sign of things to come, but even less a reason to condemn him completely.

Jamar has definately improved in all areas of his game but anyone that Mark Blake can take the [censored] out of you cannot regard highly no matter what EVER!- which is what Blake did to Jamar in 2008.

Jamar has to get 200 Champion Data points a game just to break even from the embarrassment of Mark Blake (the worst player in the league) lairing over Jamar.

The big dummy in the grand final footy show that Shane Crawford called Mark Blake -what a classic and apt description of a muppett is what Blake is and if he is even contemplating doing that to you can't be that good. Now Jamar is better than Blake but that is nothing to pin your hat on.

I think Hoopla told Jamar that and that is why he has become a better player.

I'm not sure why the criticism of Meesen either. I think he showed a lot of improvement in the handful of games he played. I will be watching him in 2010 to hopefully see him have an injury free year.

Meeson's soft possessions in those early games last year have fooled a lot of people. In what was probably his best game for the club he had the grand total of '4' hitouts with an efficiency rating of 25%.He can't ruck. If he happens to have an injury free year, he will be delisted at the end of next season.

Hoopla -here are the hit out and efficiency stats for Meeson's 4 games last season:

    (Hit Outs/Disposal Effciency) 22/88% 12/94% 9/56% 5/78%

Average 12 hitouts and average disposal efficiency of 80%

I don't know where you are getting your 4 hitouts and 25% effciency stats from.

Average time on ground was 70% with 60% of his possessions being contested.

You just love Jamar at the expense of recognising any other Melbourne ruckman and word statistics to ensure that the players you personally dislike are shipped from the club or just leave themselves. Your influence amongst the MFC is behind the scenes but getting more powerful everyday. Meeson's gone. Did you know he is from the Ablett's old club Modewarre?

I think you and Hightower are putting the wrong numbers in front of me to get me to post.

When you get the numbers at Board level everyone will bow to the Hoopla you have created!

  9. He was .... his present silence isn't helping

That's cause he doesn't want to play for the Demons and Caro told him not too.

He respected because he is hard at it and seems a good citizen. That he gets banged up every quarter adds to the perception but no AFL standard player should get banged up like he does unless they have an issue like Kosi or are a tagger that deserves it.

He is a mid level AFL footballer but not elite and he is declining not improving. Some people pump him up and they say he is hard done by like Grant Thomas. Still his worst is still better than Raph Clarke's best.

  10. Leave me alone Darren... just because you kicked 12 goals once and still couldn't get a game

The $500k has been quoted several times. I agree with rpfc .It does give us greater incentive to take Ball

Your're the flavour of the month within the MFC at the moment, the big mover and shaker! You have access to the inner sanctum and have all the gossip. I'm just touting you up as everyone should follow you views and opinions as these are what is going to shape the club. I see Zoomer go the axe because I said that you were him in private corresspondence.

  11. Thanks for the info - and thanks to 1858 who writes very clearly for someone who's over 150 years old.

The arrangement encourages clubs to retain expensive veterans who might otherwise be de-listed simply because of salary cap pressures. It's just one of the compromises designed to counter the push for free agency

Word has it that Melbourne is about $500k below its salary cap minimum - so that ( if we don't get someone like Ball) we are going to have to front-load several contracts

Presumably players on a two year contract who might normally expect to get $200 in year 1 and $300 in Year 2 will get, say, $350 in Year 1 and $150 in Year 2. Players will therefore be rewarded for anticipated future performance before they have actually delivered on their immediate goals. Over the course of a long season those in the second year of their contract may find themselves carrying players in the first year of their contracts who are actually taking home more money than they are.

I guess there will always be anomalies in contract relativities - but this additional complication is one that will require very careful management. Is there any way under the CBA that the club can claw back front end payments that prove excessive?

    You expert Hoopla!

Where did you get your source re Melbourne's salary cap room? You haven't got an arrangement like some others where you just slice 10% off the top for you to keep?

  12. I reckon he's a confidence player. If he had converted his opportunities over the last two seasons, I don't think we would be cursing his 2 year contract. Full forwards are so hard to find - that you've got to give prospects the benefit of the doubt.

If someone could teach him to kick - he's still a chance...but only just!

Hoopla -sounds like Juice is your next project. If you get him going you'll be like the Horsewhisperer of MFC.

  13. Your analysis and your conclusion are spot on.

The fact that Brock defected after pronouncing his life-long devotion to the MFC has not helped his public image. He has always been quick to promote himself - and his football over the last couple of years has not matched his stated ambition.

Hoopla -it is your influence and spell you cast upon the MFC that is responsible for Brock leaving and Sylvia coming good. This guy Hoopla never rated Brock and when he played the final vs St Kilda did not get caught in the hype. He has personally made it his crusade to get Colin Sylvia up and running which he has proven instrumental in.

Now that Brock has left does Jimmy give him back the 10% for the guitar pruchase?

  14. There has been a lot said about his attitude, character etc.

Clearly he has an ego. Was he a bit on the outer in Tassie? Can you see why some would say he's not the sort of person you want to have around?

    Hoopla

He was the most hated man at Hawthorn until he was delisted, no one there liked him. All the talk about the delisting being by mutual agreement is false, purely designed to enhance his prospect at getting drafted. Mitch was cut and he didn't even see it coming.

  15. He is the most hated man at Hawthorn but given how good he thinks he is I would have liked Clarko to put him in the ruck to break him.

Maybe they'll like him at Fremantle, Melbourne should stay away.

Beau Dowler if available would have been worth looking at.

  16. If HighTower or anyone else for that matter, has some spare time they will work out that Mr Cuthbertson just follows my posts around

    Colin Sylvia for the Brownlow

Hoopla -I read nearly all the posts on Demonland. Due to your magic hands and strategic advice Colin has rejuventated his career and should poll votes if he plays like he did vs Hawthorn. Just don't take him out to Fog after curfew.

  17. Hightower, have you ever seen Mr Cuthbertson play?

Hoopla, you have suddenly become very active on these forums. You date back from the time of Checker Hughes rather than the fullback Danny Hughes and your 2nd least liked Daniel Hughes so you have seen it all happen at MFC but now you are wielding your opinion and giving only a small piece of your inside information -why not give the Demonland forum all of your inside info. I believe that you would be a great addition to the MFC board as you know it all.
