  1. Further to this, does anone know if the Redlegs memberships allow entry to level 1 if the 3rd level is open? Or is it just general admission? I've asked the question on twitter to both the club and etihad but yet to get a reply.

Sorry everyone, just saw it on thier match day info. All MFC members get level 1 GA in aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, 46, 47 and 48. Hope this is helpful to others.

  3. Hi all. Thought I'd bump this thread rather than start another one. My wife and I renewed our memberships just before the Richmond game and still haven't received them. Before I hound the membership department I just wanted to see if anyone on here signed up that evening and if you've received your pack yet?

    Ta.

  4. Next time tell them to lay off the crack. None of what you said they said makes any sense.

Oh I agree, it was just unusual to hear someone so admant. For what it's worth I love Jonesy and had him pegged as captain pre season. Truth be told he's still my choice for who should be captain. (With no disrespect to the Jacks, who i'm happy with as is.)

  5. Hey Demonlanders. I know I don't post often though I actually just wanted to ask if anyone has heard what I did yesterday. Keep in mind this is nothing more than hearsay from a source that I've never met before and am unlikely to after.

Was sitting at the G yesterday just behind the cheersquad. There were 2 Richmond supporters behind me. Jones kicked his goal from 50 and they said "He's a great player Jones. It's not a wonder he's going at the end of the year." I turned around to ask if i'd heard that right and the response I got was that they'd heard he was going. I asked how he could possibly go because it doesn't fit with the rules that we all know about. They replied "He's out of contract. Free agency next year."

I explained the rules of free agency to them, and said that Jones hadn't played 8 or 10 seasons. We didn't recruit him at 14 years of age. One of the tigers then said well GWS can sign uncontracted players. I explained that each club could only lose one player per expansion team. (Here's where the credibility falls down...) They said Jones would be ours then, and I said we'd already lost one. They looked bewildered and I said "Scully." It dawned on them that this was true but stood firm in what they'd heard, Jones was out at years end.

I've all but dismissed this as misonformation but my interest has been piqued and I wonder if anyone else has heard such a thing? I don't get to listen to the great unfounded footy rumour mill that is SEN much anymore so I feel a little out of the loop in these things. What I did learn is that Jones' contract is up at years end and that if he were to go the best way for GWS is the pre season draft, giving no compensation.

As I said, i'm not starting a rumour, i'm just asking if anyone has heard one like it?

  6. We can't jump into any conclusions, but really, this is very distressing for everyone concered, especially Liam.

And a little bit the guy with the machete wound to the head. Some perspective is due regarding who is really in "distress."

I'm concerned for Liam as everyone is particularly if it's a case of wrong place wrong time. I know I've read things have been pretty bad up there for some time and he undoubtedly feels a responsibility to go up and help. I respect that, though this action, by anyone, is pretty off.

  7. I've been fairly reluctant to call for Bailey's sacking, still am.

But I'm starting to question if he can move from development coach to coach.

    Here's who I want,

    CHOCO

    Proven success: check

    Premiership: check

    Attacking football: check

    Available: check

He's the kind of aggressive personality we need. The kind of person you love if he's yours, hate if he's someone else's.

Also, the anti Paul Roos. Who wants to play that kind of football (it's a waste of such a talented list) - Scully, Trengove, Viney etc. is more Ablett, Corey, Bartel etc than Bolton, Kirk, McVeigh etc.

I think it would be a master stroke. Sure he can be a litte self obsessed but come on, the story has always been more about Mick, Sheedy or Bomber than it was about their respective stars.

He's available (unless Sheeds leavs GWS), do it, Bold Move

This kid had better be a gun from day one or the some people on here are gonna rip him to pieces. Poor bloke doesn't stand a chance right now.

As for Choco, i've always liked him and wondered whether we should go after him also.

  8. Points not goals.

Started at the 28 minute mark of the first quarter

    Crap in any contest

    No support

Opposition waltz through and mark everything

You saw a contest? I'm going back to the replay...

I've read all of the above posts and there's not been mention of what I considered the worst moment...

WCE kick in to an unmanned player on D50. Jurrah runs to the mark.

WCE kick to free man on the wing... ... ... MFC player gets to the mark.

(I turn to my girlfriend as we watch on TV and ask "Where is everybody?" "They must be flooding back," comes the reply.

WCE kick into the presumably flooded congested mess that is their F50... WAIT! No. No, my mistake. Mark LeCras; 20 metres clear of an opponent (who is that #27?)

    WCE score.

I was stunned. I was completely shocked that it seemed we had no one on the field. It's possible WC are better than us and if that's the case I accept a loss on their turf, but to not play on a man? Surely even if the coach doesn't suggest it a player with any pride would say to himself "wow, our team doesn't have the ball... maybe I should find an opponent to reduce the chance of them moving the ball..."

I'm not the most qualified person to judge. But my u9's coach said that if we went hard we'd win the footy. In u9's we kicked more goals when we had the footy than when we didn't.

  9. Um, round 1 of the nab cup anyone? Adelaide and PA in adelaide. Short memory.

Short memory? Not so much. Short attention span? Very much yours. Read the rest of a post before commenting on it.

  10. gee anyone would think you guys think this is a serious match! relax

    Chill Guys...it's a practise game...

    ANY INJURIES??

This is not an attack on either of the posters but in all honesty, i'm sickened by that attitude. Of course I see where you're coming from and no it's not a real game but we haven't won a single match yet... We played Brisbane, and haven't won a single match. And so help me God if anyone brings up those "games" in Adelaide I may lose it. They weren't real matches and the game against the Crows was lost by the Crows not won by Melbourne. I agree with all the propaganda... it's time to show something.

Great first half Dees, good luck for the 4th qtr.

  11. Hey guys, friends and I were just going through the draw and we were wondering with regards to the 17 game membership, what seats do you get at Etihad? Do you have to sit up on the top tier? Can you sit on the ground level or upgrade to sit on the second?

  12. He "gifts" us the gate receipts because he can. His club continually receives the Royal treatment from the AFL in regards to fixturing so as I said his "gift" is a tad hollow.

I'm not panicking as I don't believe and never have that Scully is leaving.

You didn't need to mention "Eddy bashing" as I wasn't bashing him. What I will say about Eddy "conflict of interest" Maguire is just that. What the hell is a club President doing fanning rumours about players at other clubs. The answer: Drawing the heat away from his own. The truth be known I am a tad sensitive!

You know ... I like this. I reiterate that there wasn't an accusation of Eddie bashing. Just a statement of my dislike for it. But I hear what you're saying here, and i'm catching what you're throwing. Lets enjoy this season. For my own stability I hope it's a hell of a ride.

  13. This

We really are ripping in to each other now aren't we?

I certainly hope the players don't read this thread because if they do they will wonder what we are on.

There have been a couple that have said they have information that would suggest he's staying and others that believe he's going, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think I'll just concentrate on the season and worry about Tom sometime towards the end of the year.

    This

That's sensible. Now can we close this thread until some further "news" actually comes to light and not just constantly mull over unsubstantiated rumour and speculation?

    And this...

    post-453-0-31202200-1297936346_thumb.jpg

  14. If what I said is eddy bashing then you're a touch sensitive. Also I never mentioned QB and he didn't gift us the game. Sure he gifted us the home team cash but the QB fixture was allocated by the AFL, who also allocate Collingwood the most generous MCG draw of any team which kind of makes Eddy's "gift" a little hollow. He may have mentioned his players but I'm pretty sure he didn't say the ink was drying and his source was impeccable as he did with Scully. Now take a spell by all means.

Sorry, he gifted Melbourne the gate receipts. Happy? As for the QB comment it was merely my evidence as to why

    a- I don't like Eddie bashing and,

b- He can act in the best interests for the competition. You cannot argue that the "gift" of the QB as a home fixture is not in benefit of MFC over CFC.

Also if we haven't all heard that Scully hasn't signed then what the hell are we panicking about for 20+ pages of net chatter.

I also meant no offense when I said I disliked Eddie bashing and my reasoning seems sound. If you take offense to it then the trait of sensitivity is yours.

  15. stated Kevin Sheedy is still dirty we didnt pick him as coach

This also irks me. Surely a grown man is not so petty. Not an attack on Markc, merely an opinion. It seems to me that (in all honesty) Kevin Sheedy couldn't give a sh*t about MFC, and this doesn't make him an individual in the football world. We take offense to Malthouse suggesting QB is our grand final! It is our bloody grand final!!! MFC haven't done a thing since 2000 in my memory.

I hate this attitude I see adopted. I'm reminded of Johnny Fontane squirming and saying "What am I gonna do?" Stand up. Be counted. Forget the Sheedys, the Malthouses and the freaking AFL. Put wins on the board. Get the job done and make the MCG the house of pain. Turn up and cheer because we're gonna win a lot more games from now on.

Until Jim started turning this Titanic around no one (that publicly mattered) cared about MFC. I'm glad we're on the map now but for God's sake, there is no curse. We make the off field happen and in 2011 the players make the on field happen. That group includes #31.

    OK now literally end rant.

  16. Before I start i'll say that I read every night and post maybe three times a year. To begin i'll say that I've already stopped caring whether Tom plays for MFC in 2012. I want to enjoy Tom and the dees in 2011. Who knows how many hours of life have been wasted worrying about the negative. But to address some of the things I've read...

As for maguire, he's just directing the heat away from Swan, Pendalbury and Thomas. Scully will sign when he's ready as will Sylvia and a host of other Demons who's contracts are expiring at year's end.

I don't like Eddie bashing. Never have. I actually like the guy. I like him because he likes football. He gifted MFC the queens b'day match when he never had to. Anyone who says "who cares?" to that isn't going to the same games I am. It's our one and only marquee fixture. I know Eddie has a bias towards c'wood but I'd rather barrack for the pies than see Jimma suggest anything other than Melbourne were the club to be focused on.

Oh and while Eddie was busy talking up the Scully rumour and deflecting from his stars he oh so casually threw in those stars as his summation. So in order to detract attention from them, he drew attention to them? Give me a spell.

Sorry Nutbean going to have to call you a fool, Ablett was long gone by the end of the season.

I won't say fool but I was pretty sure he was gone. He'd done all he could at that club and his family were at GC. Tough ask for Geelong.

    Hi Guys. First time poster!

Despite all of the hysteria I am here to tell you that Tom has

1 Not signed or even made a heads of agreement deal to head north

2 Has put off contract negotiations for the simple reason is that his management have told him to wait until the CBA is finalized to see what is in the pool (TV rights & what % is distributed to the clubs), effectively the salary cap in 2013 & 2014.

3 Is looking to buy a house/property in Melbourne, but cannot get finance until he has a contract

4 Cannot earn more than a set salary for the first 2 years (Whats the point of signing NOW for "unders" if he has a slashing first 10-12 rounds)

5 Has been strong enough to resist doing a back flip & signing due to media hype & speculation

Having said this it is incumbent on the club to put a good deal on the table come contract time as at the end of the day, you have a 10-12 year window at best to capitalize on earning potential.

For all of those that want him burnt at the stake & playing at Casey please bear in mind that he was HAPPY to sign for 3 years last August, but his management made the decision to play poker.

The boy loves playing, loves playing at Melbourne, has a fantastic relationship with the boys there and if the club do the right thing, will be there for the next 10-15 years!!!

Tough choice for the kid and the club. So much cash up for grabs. All being well at the dees... so much earning potential after the playing career. These comments say that Melbourne have to treat a future star like a current star. Everyone in this deal is gambling (Dees that Scully will be a star) (Scully that Scully will be a star) (And GWS that Scully won't get hurt.) Tough read.

I know Tom's family well through a friend playing at Vic Metro with Tom & others.

Not that this adds any credibility!! Or does it??

I am not after the "scoop of the year". All I am looking to do is alleviate the rubbish that has been directed Tom's way due to bulltish written about him DEFECTING to GWS.

He is the most loyal kid that there is & IF MFC look after him will be a 250 gamer.

Given good health this kid will be a 250 gamer wherever he plays. I hope he stays. I'm only bothered by one part of the possible deal and that's compensation. A #1 draft pick is a #1 draft pick. As a player who's yet to reveal what he's actually worth, then all he's worth is what was paid. If he goes MFC should be granted #1 pick in a the next draft. It's not fair if Scully's a gun and #1 pick 2011 isn't, but it's not fair to pin any more of that pressure on the poor bloke. I hope he has a ripper season.

    /end rant.

  17. I wish Cameron well in that I hope he sees his career out in good health and with the recognition as the good player he is. I always felt that Cameron was overrated by Melbourne supporters and underrated by opposition supporters. I think that was also a strength. I remember talking to my collingwood supporting mother about the Tarrant deal and saying that Queens Birthday was still fine because Cam would just towel him up like always. He was a good player and with respect to our investment (in terms of pick) for him we came out on top. If we can get every PSD pick player to play 200+ games of that standard then I suggest we induct our recruiting dept. to the hall of fame.

What makes me sad isn't Bruce bashing however. It's the posters support of Bruce's team. To anyone saying "I hope he wins a flag;" Pull your finger out. He bloody well better not win one because it's one less Melbourne can win. I know it's not realistic but I don't care, we enter a 17 horse race and there's a long way to the finish line. In all honesty *#$! every other team, I want a flag now... i'll accept 2013 but i'll dream of 2011.

  18. Onya Jordie!!!! Looking forward to his regular contributions to the Dees! :)

And just quietly.... similarities between Jordie and James McDonald:

    - Both came off the Rookie List.

    - Both the same type of never-say-die player with a bit of grunt yet not the greatest in disposal efficiency.

    - Both absolutely rack up the tackles!!!

    - Both have initials JM AND JMac :P

FREAKY!!! In a good way ;)

I don't doubt i'll get shot down for this so i'll preface it by saying i'm not having a dig as I agree with the comparison and would love to see his career play out like Jr.'s - maybe with a premiership though. But...

Members of the coaching staff of Melbourne have described Jordies handball under pressure and below the knees as elite. Disposal efficiency isn't that questionable for this type of player surely.

  19. And he was also one of the original "gut runners", imagine how good he could of been if he didnt do the drugs...?

The reason i think he had that grin on his face was because he was letting out a big secret, something that he kept secret for a long time (to the outside world). He was also an elite athlete, top 10 player of his era that had a massive drug habit throughout his playing days... He looked like he had got away with something because he did, lets not forget he never tested positive at anytime during his career.

Either way he was an AFL Footballer, so being fair should only be judged on his footy.

I'm assuming you mean we should only judge his career/future awards/inductions etc. on his footy? Because I think as a person I can judge him (based on what he's chosen to display to the public) as a bit of a [censored].

I don't want that taken the wrong way, the guy was an amazing footballer and he seems like he has now learned how to deal with his addiction. I wish him luck.

  20. For the last two years my girlfriend and I have been going to the football pretty sound in the thought that we (the demons) are not a strong team but have shown signs of building. We've been going, watching the improvement and game after game see players commit the act of incorrect disposal during play. This has become a strong area of tension for the both of us as we've seen not only opposition teams commit the act but our own too. During this weeks game against Freo we were so convinced the rule didn't exist we decided to put our cards on the table, admit our ignorance and ask if there had been a rule change. Constantly we'd heard commentators say "and the ball spills free..." We accepted that, after confirmation from the local punters, it was a rule no longer paid. Fair enough. To see in (I think) the last quarter on Sunday that rule pushed upon Colin Sylvia after a blatant throw from a Freo player right before the umpire, it's fair to say we were shocked. Unfortunately the only consolation for us was everyone we asked watched us as we sat open mouthed at our local. I'm not saying umpiring cost us that game, i'm saying that is amazing...

  21. Rockliff has played off a half back flank picking up cheap possessions on the switch of play, keepings off, etc. He doesn't compare to the young mids learning the caper the hard way. There's a reason why Scully, Trengove and Hannebery have at various stages started the game with opposition tags and Rockliff is allowed to run free.

Rockliff won't place in the top 5. Good Dreamteamer though.

This isn't a knock on Rockliff as he's been a great pick up. He would have been a Demon, as he trained with us, if the Lions didn't pounce in the PSD.

I like the end of your post as it eases the insult in the first statement. I know what you're saying and agree somewhat however, as has been said often before, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. With that in mind I hope to see no praise for Jack Grimes' early career "stats" from you. For the record I voted Trengove, and think it's realistic. Rockliff second and I like Bastinac as 3rd. All to move down a place if Martin was eligible.
