  1. If these professional, talented sports people choose to play Australian Rules football instead of anything else then that shows that it's not that important a factor.

    Agree Nasher,

The fact of the matter is that if one day the Dallas Cowboys thought 'Gee, that Aaron Davey would make a running back'. Sold. We'll offer him 3 million dollars a year for 5 years he would have to take it.

I would not begrudge him for a second because that money is ludicrous.

And this is what Folau was faced with, something that this SMH editor doesn't understand.

What he should have written an article on is why NRL players get s*^t wages comparatively to AFL?

That's the problem behind all of this, and all sports that compete for talent in this country.

  2. On a difficult day to play footy, Carlton had the more experienced heads in the most important age group-24-27:

    Carlton:

    Walker

    Judd

    Simpson

    Russell

    Hadley

    O'hAilpin

    Betts

    Armfield

    Waite

    Thornton

    Houlihan

    Jamison

    Carrazzo

    Melbourne:

    Miller

    Sylvia

    Moloney

    Rivers

    Davey

    Jamar

  3. It's probably the most fair solution, but fairness isn't the only driver for a solution. I don't want the season to get shorter and I doubt the AFL does either.

The AFL has not invested tens of millions of dollars into NSW and Queensland in order for less games to be played...

  4. I think Jamar is a perfect example of how not to jump the gun too early. You're saying players like Spencer and Martin aren't good enough, but three years ago (heck, even 10 months ago) people were saying Jamar wasn't up to it.

You need to realise we're still 3-4 years off being a superior side (if ever). By that stage, players like Gawn, Martin and even Meeson might be raring to go.

As for PJ, he's had a few good games.

    Good Call.

I think/hope Jamar can inspire the rest of them.

I like Spencer, once they sought his kicking out he will be a solid deputy.

I like his aggression and attack at the man and the footy. Plus he's only 21yo.

  5. NicNat didn't want to come to Melbourne.

He has been quoted in numerous articles over the past year saying he is very happy to stay in Perth and it would have been very hard to come east...etc.

It's a situation that i'm thankful we have avoided.

Gold Coast or West Coast would have bust the doors down at the end of 2010/2011 to get him out of our guernsey.

And they would have done it to.

And we would have got bugger all in return.

  6. That is an astonishing number of outs, in a team that wasn't great anyway. All the more reason to be scared of losing this game.

A loss this week would be ten times worse than the Hawthorn loss in Round 1.

  7. I consider this a bit of a danger game, hope the boys can get themselves up, when you look at the Tiges supporter sites they are talking this game up like a mini grand final for them, and interesting point was that they are talking up that Newman might not play, whilst i dont really rate him that highly they are screaming out for senior leadership on the ground and having their captain missing could really hurt them, heres hoping!

Greg Denham on SEN just said that Chris Newman will miss with a hamstring injury. Jordan McMahon won's play as he has hurt his shoulder and Will Thursfeld has a hurt hamstring and won't play.

  8. Agree with all of that, particularly about Miller. He's a limited player who produces to 100% of his ability, you'll get nothing out of pushing him harder. As far as I'm concerned he's an automatic selection in the side until he is inevitably overtaken by someone better. Until then, all anyone can do (coach included) is live with his limitations.

I saw enough signs during the Essendon game to be mildly confident of a better year this year. If we had Davey, Bate, Bruce, Green, Watts, Garland, Wonaemirri, McDonald and even Paul Johnson to help out in the ruck a bit we would have won, and won well. Who knows what impact Blease and Tapscott could have had as well. I mean really, for the entire second quarter pretty much we played Martin in the ruck alongside McKenzie, Bartram, and Gysberts. I think we may have won one out of six or seven clearences during this period.

The game plan for mine is patently clear. I cannot understand it when people say they are have know idea what our 'structure' is or our 'game plan'. I thought it was quite obvious what were are wanting do on Saturday, and and all costs as well.

    DAMBUSTERS!!!

The days of flooding in certain areas are now over. EVERYWHERE is now flooded. I reckon we've looked at it and gone, right we can't go long over the top of the opposition, we can't chip our way up the field with shortish kicks, we can't go the flanks, we can't kick to contests, So stuff it! Let's go right through em! Right through the middle with a wicked series of warp speed handballs! And then when we are 70 metres, if we have made it through the mindfield of players in the middle, hit a free or leading target or kick the crap out of the footy as hard and long as possible to a contest.

This actually was coming off a bit a few times last Saturday, however the problem was Fletcher and others double teamed Jurrah, Martin was dropping marks, and there really was no one else.
