  1. Nah, we would be better off spending that money on possibly 2 A grade Mids.

Yes but who are these A grade midfielders. Where are they going to come from!?

Do we wait years before the kids get there?

If anyone can give me a viable plan to 'get' these A grade midfielders I'm all ears...

  2. Correct....ah the light goes on.....we last played finals 7 years ago.....since then we dropped the ball......now we are trying after a false start to build again, so once again we can play finals, but wait, let's be like other clubs and just keeping sacking the coach and everybody associated with him until we get it right......hello Carlton.........or let's grit our teeth and try the Geelong method....you never know it might work....

Just a point, and yes I love what the Swans have done, but how long from the relocation to Sydney did it take for them to achieve the ultimate sucess?......but they built it to last

I will lose faith when the Board/CEO decide it is not going to work and sack the Coaching staff

So you'd be happy to give it 15 years?

  3. The strategy put into simple terms, not necessarily for your benefit, is to develop a group of players, who are both physically and mentally capable of performing at a consistently high standard throughout the season, leading to winning sufficient games to particpate in a finals campaign and ultimately the big one, the premiership cup.

At the same time, developing a culture throughout the whole Club to ensure that the above once attained becomes the norm rather than the exception and the success and excellence is sustained over a lengthy period

That's the strategy of every club...

It's just that nothing in this year has suggested that the current mob will be able to bring this to fruition...

I'm interested to hear what would need to happen for you to completely loss faith in the current set-up?

  4. A few random stats for the teams this week:

The average games played per player this week for Essendon is around 80, minus Fletcher it is 68. Essendon have 5 players that have played at least 100 games.

Melbourne's average is 60 games with 6 players playing at least 100 games...

  5. There are still quite a few on the lists that have yet to ID themselves, dont be shy. (see opening post)

I need your demonland username along with the name of your DT team name. From the confirmed names I will them 'try' to gather all the seasons scores at the end of 2013, then match up who is who, and the highest 18 scores will be invited into the "Legends" league for 2014, followed by the next best 18 for the "All Stars" League. The "rookie league will be used for fillers to make up the numbers if required, and also those that *cough* tanked in 2013.

I am banking on at least 36+ coaches returning for 2014 for this to work. Currently there are 3 leagues full, along with a few 'blowins' For it to work and make it easy to organise for next year, I need some more to confirm themselves. if you are on the list, and havent got a confirmed next to your DT team, then post your username with your DT team name. Thx

See the opening post for all the coaches in the 3 leagues.

G'day DeeVoted, I'm Balki from Mypos in the All Stars

  6. You got it rpfc

and my major reason is the talent pool is spread to far.

IMO there are approx. 80 players on club lists now that are not AFL standard.

We saw that last year when I reckon the Dees had 15 of them.

As you suggest I am firmly in the minority.

But I will go on dreaming

I know what your saying old dee, just wouldn't want to wish Fitzroy on anyone.

  7. If North had gone to the GC it would have remained a 16 competition.

By not going it became 17 teams when the GCS were created.

Add GWS and we now have 18 teams.

Too many in my view but I seem to belong to a small group on this subject.

Don't see why, more games, more money.

  8. What I find incongruous about Watts is that he's supposed to be in the top three quickest at the club but you'd be forgiven for thinking he's in the top 3 slowest.

Is it a lack of confidence? Does he try so hard to avoid body contact that he goes to spaces that offer him less opportunity to take the game on?

I don't know but hr needs a minimum 25% increase in output this season. There is no halo on this player anymore. Must find another gear or find himself on the fringe.

No, I think It's a 21 year old man still working himself out.

  9. this was something uttered about him when first drafted, and honestly I can see him being that player. Personally I think the question marks over his hardness at the contest are largely unfounded.. it is mainly the result of media propoganda - even so, that is his only weakness. He is a smart, athletic, skillful and of a size adequate to play most positions on the ground. FFS that is exactly why he went at number 1. If it was up to me I would have him in the centre square round 1 next year, but far wiser heads than me make that decision. If they float him across half back utilising his nous and class, so be it. If they stick him up forward, where Clark, Dawes, Pederson, Jamar and Howe allow him to receive little attention he might completely run riot. I've been to training a bit this PS and I have no qualms whatsoever about where the kid's head is at - he's not aloof, he doesn't lack confidence, he doesn't feel pressured, he just attacks it with a smile on his face because he knows how good he is and he is going to prove it... eventually. I have him in our very best assets pile along with Clark, Jones, Howe, Grimes, T.McDonald and of couse Viney and Toumpas.

    Agreed.

Further to this I don't understand why he 'has' to be some form of KPP or take on a 'Jared Rivers' type role.

I saw numerous games last year where he constantly hit blokes on the chest, lace out, with both feet, reminded me a bit of TJ.

If he can develop a superior motor and work on his speed and accelaration he can be anything.

I agree with C & B in regards to putting him in the middle. He could be so damaging that I would leave him to his own devices and let the opposition worry about him.
